Alabama football: At least five players have reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus

The CDCs website says you don't even have to test positive at time of death to be counted. If you have symptoms or were even exposed to someone prior to death they count it.

1st question: Can you link to that particular page? The CDC's website is really big.

2nd question: If the official count is too high, what is the correct number?

By the actual virus? Honestly can't answer that because if its been here since last fall ad many claim then there's no true way of knowing. If I really had to guess between 60-80K.

How'd you reach that number? Even if it's a rough guess, I'm genuinely curious. I don't know squat about this whole thing.

Im not looking it up again, you can feel free to. I did read it on their site however.

And no need to answer question 2 as there is no way to know. But I base my opinion on the death count not being as high as reports show based on the above. They are over counting, because they are counting people who are not actually dying from the virus... and by a lot. It's as simple as that.

How do you know it's a lot? On what are you basing that conclusion?

Did you not read my post? The CDC says that a person who dies with any of the following happening at time of death can be counted as a covid 19 death even if they don't test positive...

Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

That alone is enough for me to know that they are overcounting deaths and by a lot. Thats what I base my opnion on.

Matters little though, all the people that think we should shelter in place and cancel everything are probably gonna get their wish on football.

Again, what is "a lot"?
Why does an exact number have to be put on it? Is that going to help you get to a point to where you agree with me? I'll answer that....nope. it doesn't matter what I say or how well I explain my viewpoint, you're not going to agree with me and that's okay. I wasn't asking you to agree.

The only way that we could get an accurate count of actual deaths would be for them to not count people who were negative at time of death but showed symptoms or were exposed to someone that had it. And take a straight up approach of counting. Lastly, and I haven't mentioned this yet, but there's also the situation with counting people who tested positive at death who were asymptomatic or already had some underlying health issue that had them already on their death bed or close to it. I think theres no way to know exactly how many people fall into all of these categories above that shouldn't be counted and no way to give you your actual number of deaths that you so desperately want.

I think you’re fighting an uphill battle here. You’re not going to get any solid documentation or quantifiable support for the argument. These guys are gonna find whatever they can to bend the story to fit their narrative. Whether a death is attributed (on paper) to Covid, or to respiratory failure, or whatever, the coronavirus most likely was the root cause or the catalyst. We all know that. Hell, now it’s speculated that Covid can contribute to stroke and/or heart attack, even after antibodies are no longer present, due to increased viscosity of the blood. My father in law is a physician, had Covid in February, recovered, then had two strokes two months later.

But like I said, you’re fighting an uphill battle trying to have a logical, not-emotionally-fueled conversation about this. Because logic gets manipulated when it starts to interfere with our hope for a football season.

I want football as much (if not more) than anyone, but at the end of the day, it’s not the most important thing.

I certainly don't expect an exact number. But you did post that fewer than 100k have died as a result of the virus. So you've reached some conclusion as to a rough number. To get below 100k would require shaving 23k off the current official count. That's almost 20%.

Just based of general flu deaths, it was just a very rough estimate with no real rhyme or reason. We will never know the true numbers

Did you just completely run out of contemporary material? Since Fowler and Herbstreit opined, we swung wildly in the direction of a season being a guarantee and the pendulum of “public” sentiment is now headed back towards college football being an impossibility.

Regardless of what the media reports one day to the next, we’re having a season this fall.

NBA’s first day of coronavirus testing didn’t go well, which was predictable

Still, the reports that trickled in on Tuesday -- and will likely continue to trickle in over the rest of this week -- felt a little jarring. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, one Western Conference team had four positive tests. Per Duane Rankin of AZCentral, two Phoenix Suns were positive. Wojnarowski also reported that Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic tested positive as well. Incidentally, Jokic met with tennis star Nikola Djokovic last week. Djokovic -- who announced his positive result on Tuesday -- has taken a significant amount of criticism for putting together an exhibition tournament, and for attending a big party in Serbia.
