What a jerk!!!
He tweeted:
"Major college athletics is a dirty, dirty business. I can vouch for that. I hope all these young guys know what they're getting into."

Just was not good enough to belong in Major college Athletics!!! This coaching staff was just honest enough to tell him that fact!!!

i have never understood this - if someone gets an academic ride and then pulls a 2.0 they get that full ride yanked - you are given a full ride with the expectation that you will produce

so if your full ride is for football and you turn out to not be good at football or are not working hard enough to be good you get it pulled

how is that dirty?

seems fair to me - he also will still get a full ride if he wants it - 100s of schools with less talent that UT would jump all over a guy like posey

You don't have to be Dr Phil to figure this one out. Posey couldn't cut it due to athletic ability, laziness, or something else and now feels the need to publicly justify his bailing on the team. One undeniable truth about human nature: it's easier to blame someone or something else for your own shortcomings than to admit the reality that they are your shortcomings and you own them. You see this in all phases of life. It's always the teacher, boss, company, coach, system, or someone else's fault that I didn't succeed. It's a loser mentality and nobody who has achieved an ounce of success in life did so by blaming others for every failure they had had along the way. Get outta here, Posey. I would have had a lot more respect for you if you had just tweeted "Gonna give up and pursue other things...thanks for the opportunity".

I agree. If cutting a player who isn't good enough is dirty then there are junior high girl's volleyball teams that are dirty. A scholarship isn't a 4 year guarantee to a scholarship no matter how bad a player you are.

I do think the transfer rules can be a bit unfair. A coach can cut them whenever they want or leave for another job but if the player chooses to leave they have to sit out a year. Sucks for them.

I wonder if he has an opportunity at another school but won't get a full release from UT. He's a RS Soph I believe and if he has to sit out he will only have one year to play (I think).

Just curious why you call him a "jerk"?? What, pray tell, is your first-hand experience with major college athletics other than sitting on your butt in front of a tv screen? If nothing more substantial than that, you have no basis on which to judge this kid.

agree 100% on xfer - if the schools are offering 1 year scholarships (which i am fine with) the student shouldnt be obligated beyond that year so punishing for a xfer makes no sense to me

I don't disagree with what Posey said.

He may have gotten shafted but it's the nature of the game. Hopefully he lands in a better situation for himself.

Why is it that every past, present, or future Vols cryptic Tweets are analyzed, overanalyzed, and then thrice analyzed until we have people chiming in speaking as if they actually are Alan Posey or Butch Jones discussing matters that are wholly irrelevant now? He is not on the team, we will not know a true reason why, and for tweeting this the guy doesn't deserve to be ridiculed. Even if the reason behind the tweet is UT-related, which NO ONE knows.
