Alan Posey tweet

I don't disagree with what Posey said.

He may have gotten shafted but it's the nature of the game. Hopefully he lands in a better situation for himself.

More like UT got shafted. They have payed 10,000 plus on him to stay and eat at UT for free for three years, and in return gained nothing from him being here in terms of the football program other then a name on a jersey. I don't think someone has got shafted when they have received a free education for three years worth thousands of dollars, and free UT gear and food. If you don't produce after three years on scholarship chances are you aren't going to be asked to look else where. If you pay someone to work at your business and they don't produce for you in a three year span are you going to keep them around because it's the nice thing to do?

He could go onto build 1000 bridges in his life, and never be known as a bridgebuilder. But, by quitting on the team, he will ALWAYS be known as a quitter.

One gave his all and left everything on the field, the other quit because it was too hard and tweeted an indirect cheap shot at the program.

Posey gave more to UT than anyone in this thread. He earned the right to put on the jersey and when to take it off. Not surprising you would be taking shots at him simply because he wants to do something besides play football

Just curious why you call him a "jerk"?? What, pray tell, is your first-hand experience with major college athletics other than sitting on your butt in front of a tv screen? If nothing more substantial than that, you have no basis on which to judge this kid.

I call him a jerk because he makes jerkish statements. If you hear a donkey squeel, do you mistake it for a mouse? Just because he had a bad experience doesn't mean he should talk negatively about the university and imply that other recruits are lining up to be screwed. Need anymore reasons? By the way, it doesn't take an athletic director to identify a jerk. Jerk! :)

Disagreed with you many times. But, in total agreement here. What he said was true. It is dirty. It is a tweet and is how he feels. If he had said UT sucks and it is a dirty business because CBJ is a dirty no good back stabber. Then, you should be upset. Otherwise, take it for what it is worth which is not much and move on.

I have no problem with him leaving for whatever reason, and I have no problem with him even telling his own friends and family that he thinks college football is a dirty business. But he chose to make his feelings public by tweeting them and implied that he was either mistreated or that the UT program is somehow shady. It was a cheap and cowardly shot. Its trying to say something without actually saying it. Sorry, just don't have a lot of respect for him.

I took it as anyone can be told to leave or be forced out and its part of the business. That he hopes other kids understand that.

I don't see what would cause such an overreaction by people. 99.9 pct chance he was encouraged to leave.

I will concede that I may be overreacting a bit. I just despise twitter for reasons like this.

He is no longer on the team roster.... When did this happen?????

No one ever said why he "left the team," but most people don't realize football scholarships are only year to year. Sounds like he didn't just leave the team but was shown the door, in Posey's eyes at least, to make another scholarship available. He does have one good point, namely that NCAA rules are not designed for the players, but for (and by) the coaches and ADs.

I saw Posey in the "networking at Neyland" video that was shot on Tuesday. It was an event for junior and senior UT athletes to network with prospective employers. Looks like he is using this "dirty business" to his advantage when it is beneficial to him. You would think he would be embarrassed to show up at something like that when he is no longer on the team.

it is cruel if you are not good enough. you come in as a freshman but they say you have to get collage ready and lift weights. then your a junior and your not as talented as the incoming freshmen but there are guys who get recruited and are on the team 4 years and never get any playing time

My son played 4 yrs of D1 baseball on scholarship. It's not a dirty business but it's tough. Coaches are hired to win. I told my son when he went to college as a freshman, " their job is to recruit someone better than you every year. Your job is to prove they can't". Some kids buy the recruiting BS. They are the ones disappointed at some point.

As a player's dad, you might have the answer to a question I have had. I know a former scholarship player at another school who years later was still in a dispute over unpaid medical bills from an injury. What are the NCAA rules on player injury liability?

he's just mad because in high school he was the big fish in a little pond. then he got to Tennessee and realized he was the little fish in a giant pond and couldn't handle it.

Do you know something more than the rest of us--or are you just personally offended by the opinions of others? I find it hypocritical of you to be tolerant of Posey's "rights" to post over-generalizing and derogatory comments about the ENTIRE NCAA sports world, but not the "rights" of others to express an opinion about his comments!

I know NOTHING about Mr. Posey other than he was on the roster at UT playing football. He obviously has been evaluated by TWO different coaching staffs and found to be lacking in sufficient talent to earn a starting or back-up role on the field.

I don't know if he quit by his own decision, or if he was asked to leave the team to make room for other players--either way--he has been evaluated and found lacking for this program by those paid to make those decisions. And now he wants to pout and cry like a baby because of "alleged" unfavorable or "unfair" circumstances or whatever reason he has for his tweet.

What he needs is to "grow a pair", man up, and get on with his life! Or he could just go take a walk through ANY local hospital or Nursing home and see just how bad life can be--and nothing about it is fair!

Quitters never win!

Well, I agree that if a player isn't up to par than you should be able to pull his scholarship and cut him. They are just one year agreements, correct? But, I also feel that since they are just one year agreements than a player should be able to transfer elsewhere if he or she pleases, without restrictions. I just think that it should be a two-way street.
