Alex Thomson - Wagner QB (Grad Transfer)

We desperately need a QB that can play immediately. I'm higher on JG than most here, but the real problem is that with Dormady gone, JG is the only serviceable QB on the roster.

While I know a lot of people here love McBride for his moxie, dude is just not a P5-level QB. His stats were terrible. He doesn't have the arm strength or the height to be competitive in the SEC. He could succeed with an FCS team, but he's not going to work out at UT, nor does he fit into the new offense at all.

Shrout is a project at best. Dude threw 26 INTs during his Senior season in high school. He has the potential, but if we're being honest, he needs a few more years of development before he could conceivably be ready.

Right now, we're in a situation if JG gets injured, we could be staring at a 3 or 4 win season. And while everyone expects this to be a rebuilding year, I don't think anyone wants to see a repeat of 2017. So with that said, I hope we get this guy.

Right. And our recent injury stretch hasn't been too kind. This is one position where we cannot have anything happen.

And even IF nothing happens, JG might still only get us a couple more than 3-4...

There's a lefty in bama that has the same measurables as McBride...

And an NFL team drafting a QB from North Dakota State (FCS) with the second overall pick, making him their starter as a rookie, and who in his second year has led the team to the NFC Championship game...was a bad move.

Technically Foles led them to the CG...

Yep... that's why I say people hating on Speight is b.s. He started and won at a P5 level. Way better than QD.

QD had a winning record so....

He beat a 5-6 Georgia Tech team, a 0-11 FCS team, and barely beat a 4-8 cupcake. He also lost to a 4-7 Florida team. He played one game against a good team and he went 5 for 16 for 64 yards and 2 INTs.

I'm not knocking QD. He was not developed properly and put in bad positions by our previous coaching staff, but the "QD had a better record than JG" argument is a truly ludicrous argument. Do you really think JG would've lost to Indiana State?

Newsflash, we are already staring at a 3 or 4 win season. That’s why your seeing should be Srs opting out. They know that CJP gets a gimme year this coming season and he is going to go with a youth movement so to speak. It’s actually his smartest move.

So we’re supposed to go all in on this kid because of the once in a generation type find the Eagles appear to have gotten in Carson Wentz? Does the phrase “one off” mean anything to you? How about the word anomaly? Getting a franchise qb is a hit or miss process no matter you’re looking to find one, but especially if you’re going the Wagner College of the FCS route imho.

And let’s keep it straight here, I didn’t say he would be a bust and never play if he came here....I said let’s slow our roll on this kid if we’re trying to make the case that he’ll play at a high level and win in the SEC if we’re basing it on his td-int ratio from last year like the poster I responded to said. What are the odds?

Doug Williams - Grambling St.
Tony Romo - E. Illinois
Steve McNair - Alcorn St.
Joe Flacco - Delaware
Phil Simms - Morehead St.
Rich Gannon - Delaware
Kurt Warner - N. Iowa
Josh McCown - Sam Houston St.
Ryan Fitzpatrick - Harvard
Jimmy Garoppolo - E. Illinois
Carson Wentz - North Dakota St.

Just to name a few.

I understand it is not the norm, but FCS QB's who go on to have NFL careers is not as rare as one may think. There is no way to tell if Thomson has what it takes to succeed at a P5 school, but when an NFL QB coach thinks he'd make it in the NFL, seems worth the risk to me.

And didn't beat 1 bowl team.He only made 1 start vs a team who got to a bowl and that was GA..He didn't even finish that one. Yes JG had a losing record but atleast he made 5 starts vs bowl teams. Neither QB was good but atleast JG had the better stats and less turnovers against the hardest part of the schedule. Throw in the team packing it in after the GA game it was a small miracle we even won 1 more game and were 2 plays away from winning 2 others. So I wouldn't celebrate QD being 3-2 in games he started and only 1 ended with a winning record and made it to post season. I have no idea what kind of QB play we get or who is or isn't gonna be good and neither does anyone else. I'll pull for whomever JP and Helton decide on. I have trust in them, I didn't have any trust in Butch, Canales or Larry Scott's decision making.

Ken Anderson - Augustana College

That's DIII folks. And Anderson was a great QB for the Bengals for a few years.
