Alex Thomson - Wagner QB (Grad Transfer)

Because he is being looked at as a veteran backup. I doubt that Ala or UT is looking at him to come compete for the starting qb spot.

Unless Tennessee is. Would that drive you (more) nuts? :)

That 45 yard throw a couple minutes in had a lot of air under it. To be the next best thing in the pro's, I would think he would need a little more laser rocket than rainbow? JMO

If the defense lets you do it, why not?

Someone clear this up for me. I thought we couldn't take any grad transfers because of Wiggins. I was thinking that was why we backed off on Wallace.

I can't picture this staff giving anyone that kind of guarantee, especially at QB. Brings Chris Simms to mind.

Hate to break it to you, but TN needs QB depth immediately. This guy has more bargaining power than Tennessee does.

Oregon State is a school that apparently is in on him too. Since they are a school that is horrible, he could easily tell them the only way he takes that huge risk to go there is he has to be the starter.

Now, he should (should in terms of having starting job options at different schools) have that same power for wherever he goes outside of Bama. There is not legitimate argument one could make that would be against him starting here. Sure we all have our fanboys, but this kid would be our best option to play right away in a pro style offense.

Was wondering about this. It show stats for 15 and 16 for Wagner. He only played in 2 games in 17, so maybe he is expecting to get a medical red shirt.

Had he previously been redshirted? If so, it would need to have also been due to injury for that scenario to work.

I think Iowa State’s a bigger player. Matt Campbell needs a starter.

We need him regardless if he starts.

A mediocre at best RS sophomore. A walk on. And a 3 star freshman.

Slim chances even one of them is adequate next year, much less two.

Not sure who the walk-on is, McBride isn't a walk-on, Shrout is our 3 star Freshman coming in. Are you thinking of Bart Harris, the PWO out of Missouri.

Maybe this guy is the bridge from where we are now personnel wise at QB to where we want to be...he comes in for a year and then hands it over to Shrout...JG and WM become career backups or (most likely) transfer out

It’s very compatible. Campbell slapped a linebacker in there and won. His spread doesn’t require a dual threat.

A linebacker who was a 2.5 year spot player for them at QB.

Joel Lanning wasn't just some linebacker they threw in there.

Lower division. Pretty sure the guy could transfer whether he graduated or not.

If you’re transferring UP a division, you have to abide by the transfer stipulations. You’re thinking of the reverse scenario.

I'll take him. Kyle shanahans first NFL HC job and he hires this kids former coach to coach the most important position on his team. He must know a bit about what he is doing and what a good QB can do.
