All things STOCKS

I had a similar situation one time. I told them I was going to close my account and would like to withdraw all of my money. My buddy who was with me laughed and said he doubted they had enough to cover it. The teller basically laughed at him, until she pulled up the account. Then she looked at me and said theyā€™d have to write me a check šŸ˜‚

Here's my story

I deposited a check from an auto accident settlement when I was 21. The teller wrote her phone number on the back of the slip...

couldn't agree more...

One of the funniest things I've seen in a branch happened 10 years ago. I'd recently sold a townhome to an all cash buyer, he'd wired $500k into my checking account. I was in getting some crisp $100s for xmas. When the teller pulled up my account and saw the $500k+ balance she got this very blank look on her face. She got composed, went to get the crisp 100s and came back with this young branch manager that wanted to know if he could help me with my financial planning. I laughed and just said, "I'm fine thanks"
I had an Amsouth account before it switched to Regions. The old branch that I opened the account at 20 years ago still calls me, I assume because they bother people with high balances. One day I answered the phone thinking it could be my mom, the girl asked if I was interested in a savings account ā€œfor my kids college fund or retirementā€. Whatā€™s it pay? ā€œUh today, itā€™s at a quarter of a percentā€. Iā€™ll take my chances in the stock market thanks.

Hoping for one more green day before I liquidate my portfolio and convert my TSPs over to G fund. Itā€™s been a brutal week, but maybe Iā€™ll time the collapse well at least.

Also, why canā€™t they just make passengers of a cruise do this before boarding? Most cruisers wouldnā€™t mind the extra expense

Yoo rough month for that NCMI, huh? Down 35%....yikes

Their balance sheet is still nice, so they should be fine to weather storm. But, blockbusters are going to have to come back before theater stocks are moving up again.

Their B/S is OK. If we are still in this spot this time next year, then viability becomes a concern.

Longer term, does streaming kill the movie theater industry?

Yea pushing Bond back is a killer for a lot of them. As soon as they announced that, the UK announced closing theaters. Thatā€™s a big money maker

I only go to a theater if itā€™s something I really want to see. The last few years, I canā€™t remember seeing anything. I know I saw Skyfall and Spectre, Fabulous Beasts or something with the wife a few years ago. Maybe like 5 years actually. I attempted to take my 2 year old to a Dragon movie a year or so ago. I enjoy going, but movies seem to be on a bit of a dry spell lately.

Big screen is so much better. Quality of movies has gone down. Seems like it's a bunch of comic book character movies.
Theaters are partly to blame to. Most good movies only make it to one theater in town, and not at all in smaller towns.

The theaters make their $$$ off of kids movies and these "comic book" movies. Disney is beginning the process of releasing new releases on Disney +. Do they start to do the same thing with Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm movies as well? Does Universal/Fox, etc follow?

Iā€™ve been saying they should release No Time To Die on a streaming platform, charge us $30 to watch it, and call it a day. But thereā€™s obviously an issue they have with that, because it seems too obvious.

Yep, you are entirely right. It's all about $.
When we lived in Knoxville we primarily went to a theater somewhat near West town (not main stream) and one at Turkey Creek(Regal?). It's been 10 years, but my understanding is the one near West Town is closed.
Many better movies aren't shown in most smaller markets until after the awards season.
We now stream a movie about 5 nights a week at home. As you suggest.

Kind of like a government 401k. G fund is just government bonds. Probably the safest bet until the market settles down post election and then Iā€™ll buy back into their C and S large and small cap funds. What do you all think?
Iā€™m a fed as well and never try to time the market. Why donā€™t you just stay appropriately diversified? Have you had success timing in the past. I have never done anything big in my TSP other than rebalance.

This is my first election since beginning TSP contributions. I saw the graphs for what the market looked like leading up to and post election in 08 and thought Iā€™d give it a shot. I donā€™t have much in there currently, but would love to buy back shares low.

For bank stories: luckily through Godā€™s blessings, hard work, and prudence we had our first house paid off in about 5 years. When we sold it and moved in 2011 ā€” I am never in the branch for much so when it was time to go I thought itā€™d be good to take in some spare change for their auto counting machine. I do that - approach the teller:
Me: hi I have a couple of deposits for checking. Here is the first - hand the slip from coin machine for about $4.
Here is the second - hand check from house sale.
Teller: Oh!
