All things STOCKS

It may have some power going into holidays. Earnings are no longer going to help moving forward and I'm not sure we are passed the worst of inflation atp.

What positive purpose could she possibly have for issuing that statement?
I don't know the context, but I think we can agree that the market doing such a wild move on a mere CPI report (not even a Fed action) is not a great reflection on the state of things.

Well, I'm going to have some rolling to do today. I outsmarted myself with some of the covered calls.
Could sure use a little slump here today.

There's a crypto winter coming (maybe we're already in it), where a very large number of them are going to zero and will fade into the ether. Just like Excite or pets.com. Any one of them, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, etc. could be the MySpace of crypto or the Google of crypto.

Personally, I think it is more likely than not that the Google of crypto doesn't even exist yet or is in its very early infancy. Google was in its very early days during the dot-com blow up and didn't even go public until well after the blowup was over. Facebook didn't even exist. It wasn't part of the dot-com hysteria of the day at all, and it is possible the biggest eventual winners of the crypto space aren't even around yet. The early firms have come in and made the mistakes that the future winners will learn from.
I know there are a lot of smart people working in this space, and I don't doubt that eventually they'll turn out some life-transforming products.

But are we there now? What intrinsic and utilitarian value does Bitcoin have today? I don't see it. I do see a lot of speculation and ponziesque behavior. One should tread very cautiously there.

No, definitely not. The technology venture capitalists churned out a lot of speculative and ponzi-esque behavior, but then the iPhone showed up one day. I don't know how long it will take, and have no idea where we are on the timeline, but I doubt that we will imminently see the life-transforming stuff.

Big question is if this rally has any staying power.

I am shocked at the volume today. Thought the true money managers would leave the flunkies in charge for a 3-day weekend holiday. Might actually move this afternoon...thought for sure it would be a low volume, slow downward drift kinda day.

Fidelity was lagging furiously as I was trying to roll calls. I don't think I've ever seen it that slow.

couple of interesting notes - remember MACK? it was brought up here, curiously without "significant operations" waiting on some big paydays from drug trials. The big one was a flop, but something came in positive day before yesterday and it tripled. When it was brought up here, $7. Last week, about $4. Yesterday, up to about $12. The hoped for result that didn't materialize would have resulted in about a $30/share payment. I don't own it, but just interesting.

I hold VALE, a brazilian mining company. I don't know what's up, but it's up 9% today with no news yet. For me, it's busted through a covered call on some of it, strike $15/price now $15.11, expires today. I think I am going to roll this during a pullback here in a few minutes. It's a strange company, in a way. P/E is 3, but "everybody knows" steel is coming down. It was talked about here before. I've actually held it for a long time. It payed out some monstrous special dividend and so it may never get back to the price I got in at.

Pow zoom to the moon.

In other news, NVO down 4% after fake Lilly twitter account announces insulin is free.

So did we see the bottom or no?

No. I still think it is merely a bounce that may last for a few weeks.

Not until we are 10000% sure sure sure that either the House or the Senate will be Red. I am admittedly paranoid, but most of those late ballets are blue. Not a chance Walker can carry Georgia.

If we end up with blue blue blue, we will certainly see a new bottom.

Also, need a couple of more months of inflation (whatever u want to call it) improvement.

I think the House goes barely red and the Senate stays blue. Ultimately, the Rs ran awful Senate candidates in PA, GA, AZ, CO, NH and they lost because of that and not fraud....

For example, Warnock is an incompetent fraud and con artist in a slightly red state. The only way the Rs lose this race was running someone worse than him. They ended up finding someone worse...

Ching Ching....that is our best case scenario I think. Five extremely poor candidates. Wizard of Oz, Herschel Walker, Joe O'tay, 20 year old Blake Masters, Donald Blowchunks, Bozo the Clown

So we have politics in the stocks forum.

JMO, but the huge gain was not related to politics.

Pick a forum thunder...makes no difference. Just try to keep one live, and one dead.

Usually, I would agree on gain versus politics. But, this time is different IMO.

I think the Pub is mostly about investment discussions. The deep dives into political related discussions are over there. Taxes, economics, fiscal policy, and such are gray areas. Biden is a moron, Kamala is an ignorant slut, and Hillary is a witch - over there. Just how I approach it, but feel free to post whatever you got a hankering about.
