All things STOCKS

Microsoft is on sale.

Don't see that every day.
I remember when MSFT was $25/share post financial crisis and was asking myself how is that possible?? I kept thinking I will never see it this cheap again. Might be the best investing decision I’ve made. Best buying opportunity ever during that time.

$25? When was that?

Yeah, I have probably made more on Microsoft than any other stock. Had an extremely bright 'software guru' friend who pointed out their monopoly back in the mid/late 90's.

I misjudged Apple but hit it big with MSFT.

Been hard to beat the performance of the FAANG/Mag 7 crowd. Continue to own AAPL, AMZN, MSFT. SHOP has been my rocket ship. I’ll see what earnings say first week of February. Should meet or outperform again. ANET back on track after an ugly Monday. Getting close to recouping its “losses” on Monday, though I’m still up nicely despite the sell off. UPS took a giant dump on my holdings. It will recover, doing the right things, but it’s going to take a while. Good dividend so I’m not selling….yet.

I'm selling out at close because of this tariff BS. No one, not even him, knows what this clown is going to do.
Definitely something to keep an eye on. I don’t see anyone talking about tariffs already being priced in. Makes me rethink about taking my big winners off the table.

Tariffs don’t scare me. It’s actually threats of tariffs anyway. I don’t anticipate the 25% on Canada to be at that level for long. Maybe not even the weekend. If we get into a trade war with Canada (or anybody else), we’ll win. I’m glad that MAGA has the backbone to stand up against being taken advantage of.

Trump was voted in to fix immigration. Money talks. Mexico is listening. They need to stop the caravans. They need to do something about the trafficking.

None of our defense allies or trading partners give a **** about our national debt problem. Tariffs gets their attention. Also, when negotiating, your initial offer isn’t expected to be accepted. Better behavior can be rewarded with 10% instead of 25%.

Trump’s creating an External Revenue Service, so I would anticipate no zero tariff arrangements. It needs to be normalized to charge anybody with a trade imbalance something - even if it’s only 1-5%.

Nobody has been putting up an effective resistance when the IRS has higher tax rates legislated to collect more from citizens. With an ERS the burden can be shared by more than just the 100 million or so US citizens footing the bills.

Some will argue that tariffs are simply taxes paid by consumers because it will bring higher prices. I’ll counter that by saying more competition from more trading partners can offset a lot of potential price increases.

Yes, I am mostly riding a couple of mutual funds that are heavy with FAANG/ Mag 7.

Agree with sentiment that Trump is just yanking strings / throwing out wild stuff to see what sticks on wall. Southern border appears to be focus. The rest is still TBD.

Would help if we knew where all the Elon yabber will land. Thinking he is going to cause a decline in the defense contractors value. However, unclear how he feels about Foreign Military Sales.

Going to be big swings in market for 2025. I still think it trends upwards, but gonna cause upset stomach some days.

WSJ has an article about the items that will cost more because of tariffs. Some are oddly specific. Hurry up and buy that sledgehammer you’ve been eyeing.

Cherry tomatoes
Tonka trucks
Tequila
Maple syrup
Avocados
Smartphones
Sledgehammers

I'm checking out a maple syrup company....headquartered in Georgia...???

Several family friends have olive farms down in south GA...but maple syrup is a new one for me! There's always cane syrup, though.

Pecans, Peaches, vidalia onions in GA.
I think of Maple as a northern tree. Think I've tried some syrup in NE..

Yep, while sugar maples can grow in GA, they're not usually "happy" about it in terms of thriving there. Plenty of red maple, silver maple, and trident maple though.

I recommend you leftists go all cash.

That sounds like something a leftist would say.

Anyway. If crypto is any indication, tomorrow could really be something else. I do not believe these tariffs are temporary like Goldman as suggested either. This is all about keeping the dollar as the reserve currency. Doesn't have dick to do with drugs.
