That poor little boy is dead. I can't imagine what that family is going through right now.

I've stayed at that resort. Not once did I ever consider there could be gators in the lake. I cannot imagine the grief the family is carrying.

No words.

I stayed there as well, and went with the wife on a two seater boat rental. I asked an employee how often they had gator issues and they said they didn't think they had any. Now, anyone that knows anything about Florida know that gators can be found in just about any body of water. Disney should have done more to alert people about the potential dangers of gators.

Unbelievable!

How could groundskeeping not know it was there?

We used the stay at Fort Wilderness on the lake, wear coonskin caps an carry Davy Crocket rifles an run up and down by the lake huntin bear. Ride the ferrys everywhere.

I can't imagine the anguish of the family.

Disney needs to drag the lakes and lagoons and get every single gator out. No way I'd take my family near any water feature.

That's horrible, I saw it on the news earlier. God help that poor family.

I saw this last night. Just terrible.

It should go without saying to assume any body of water in FL could have a gator.

You and Dave are ABSOLUTELY correct. One should assume a body of freshwater in Florida has alligators. My wife is from Louisiana so it isnt like we are blissfully ignorant of gators. Being embarrassingly honest here, i never even thought about it when we were at the GFR&S. I guess i was a typical dumb tourist on vacation and turned off my common sense for a week. And thinking about it now my mind is trying to comprehend how this happened; as if i expect Disney would NOT have gators in their lagoons.

Gators always come back. There are over a million gators in FL. They need to hire someone to cull them full time. Anytime they get over 4 feet they need to be removed.

We have quite a few gators here in Southern Mississippi.

Disney encompasses a 40 square mile area. It would be very difficult to eradicate gators in an area the size of San Francisco.

Living in GA for 7 years, Ft. Stewart has all kinds of gators.

Of course there are gators everywhere in Florida. My inlaws are there and we go a lot.

Disneyworld is huge, yes. But the gator population in the waters where families are constantly at the waters edge can and should be cleared of gators by a paid crew, whose only job it is, is to get them out of there.

Terrible story but there's no way I'm getting in a pond in Florida and I know my little ones aren't either.

Yeah... Nobody wants to come off like a jerk, but you have to assume gators are in any body of water.

No way can I understand what they're feeling and hope I never have to. But I also hope this could help future visitors be aware of the dangers.

People don't get that gators are curious animals; especially if they've ever been fed or think food is involved.

Where ever you go, there are people who assume that just because they're at a resort or park on vacation that everything is safe. Like people who visit Cades Cove and try to feed or pet the bears.
