Alligator attacks toddler at lagoon at Disney hotel

It's been reported that there aren't any, and I know for a fact there weren't any when I went. The signs only say "No Swimming."

I'll be there this weekend I'll see what they have. I do believe though I have seen plenty of no swimming signs and wildlife warnings.

And here's the problem:

"...One employee at the resort who did not want to be identified said in an email "There is such a problem on property with guests feeding the alligators thinking it's cool." There are two at the Buena Vista Palace that people regularly feed from balconies, he said."

Just stupid.

This is from Yahoo:

There are no warning signs of gators in the area, but there are notices posted against swimming in the man-made lake.

I remember thinking it was odd that there were no signs warning about gators when I was there, which is why I asked an employee about them. I don't know if other sections of the park have signs, but that part definitely did not.

Where ever you go, there are people who assume that just because they're at a resort or park on vacation that everything is safe. Like people who visit Cades Cove and try to feed or pet the bears.

I was in this category, inexplicably.

I think I've stayed there, too. If it's the one I'm thinking about, it is across the street from Downtown Disney (recently given a name change). It's not on Disney property and not affiliated with WDW.

This is truth. One of the dumbest things I ever saw was a group of people chasing/tracking a small bear in cades cove.

It's amazing how many people think that wild animals are just like their pet dog or cat, or any other domesticated animal.

We're leaving for Orlando on Monday. At no point did I ever think of letting my kids play in or near a body of water that wasn't a swimming pool. I feel terrible for these people, but you know these things are in the area, you don't risk it.

Not true. There are warnings.

People on vacation do not pay attention..there are alligator warnings everywhere on Buena Vista. I guess Diz should have somebody stationed every 40 ft with a bullhorn so stupid people get the point. Every lake or pond on every golf course and in every city or county park has alligators. I hit a golf shot last summer less than 3 feet from a 8 foot gator sunning itself. I shooed it back in the water and hit my shot.

I could have sworn that the last time I was there I saw Gator warning signs. I guess I just saw the stay out of the water warnings and knew why..

One must assume that any body of water in Florida has gators. It's crazy to watch bass fishing videos of people fishing in freshwater ponds in Florida and shooing off gators at the same time.

I truly feel for the family. I can't imaging seeing your child taken like that. Just a horrible situation.

The gators were there in that swamp before DW was a thought. My neighborhood was built on a farm. It's comical to hear my neighbors complain about the coyotes moving in to our neighborhood. We moved into theirs! Sorry about your deceased cat, but that's how it goes when you choose to live out in the county.

Like I posted earlier, just like when you go in the ocean..assume something there can kill you. I never go in the water in Florida unless its my pool where the only thing, like today, that can kill me is lightning.

I read Disney does have an extensive catch and euthanize program for gators. Still as someone else said. It's a large area and hard to keep it at zero.

I can see how folks get lulled into a false sense of security on a Disney property. They do such a good job with presentation. This is a tragedy and you can bet if there weren't signs there will be soon at that location to include every other body of water around Disney.

Ok, but we are talking about a two year old here, not a cat. Have some class.
