Under Armour All-American wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey has switched his commitment from USC to South Carolina and will sign with the Gamecocks Wednesday, ESPN's JC Shurburtt reports.

I can't believe any WR who wants to do anything would go there. USCe is where receivers go to die. Look at Marcus Monk...he couldn't even stick with the BEARS.

According to Jeffrey and Wilson, Kiffin told Jeffrey that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.

Jeffrey was doing his best to stay awake at that point, but that comment from Kiffin woke him up. He clearly hasn't forgotten it, either.

"He said it, but it's not worth talking about," Jeffrey said.

Isn't the day before signing day part of a dead period? How were coaches Carroll and Kiffin speaking to him the day before signing day?

Could it be because Jeffrey called them and not vice versa?

I think it sounds worse than it was or taken out of context somehow. The player and coach are not making a big deal about this at all. Chris Lowe is turning into a scumbag journalist here lately. Its hard to believe he used to write for volquest too. Chris Lowe, Dave Hooker, and John Adams are all in the same POS category in my eyes.

If this is true, I'd be curious to know the tone and context in which the comment was made. It could be that the conversation was laid back, with the coaches cutting up with Alshon on the phone, making harmless jokes about South Carolina and Southern Cal. I really doubt Kiffin was being serious, telling Alshon that he'd end up pumping gas for a living if he goes to South Carolina. I mean, c'mon, Kiffin knows that 99% of gas stations in South Carolina are self-service these days.
