Amateur Hour Continues

”Those who can not remember history are doomed to repeat it”. You try to wipeout that part of history is not gonna change it. What did Bragg ever do to you specifically that you hate him so much?
He led a war against the United States government. There's no rational reason a U.S. military base should be named for someone who fought against it.

The nations war dead are buried on the former property of the Confederate commanding general.

You’re reaching quite a bit with your oversimplification here. I guess I shouldn’t be too shocked 🤷‍♂️

It was probably named for Bragg (and I don't know when it was named) because of his service in the U.S. Army before the Civil War, alongside people like General William Tecumseh Sherman and others. I would assume that they respected him, and were able to forgive a fellow soldier much better than you are 160 years later. I imagine that covers most of the Confederate Generals that have statues, forts, etc.

They were all educated at West Point, VMI, etc... the professional officers looked at the situation quite differently

Very specific there sparky. He also was a officer for the the United States. Your main gripe is that’s he white

Who was it that was doing the forgiving of Bragg? The fort was founded 50 years after the Civil War ended.

Why not have a Fort Benedict Arnold? He contributed as much to America as Bragg did . . . before he switched sides.

Nope. He led the rebels in support of slavery and secession from our country. His name and legacy shall rightly be stricken.

Seems like there's a wee bit of difference between forgiving somebody and honoring them by naming a base after them.

Arnold was convicted and hung. What charges if any were leveled at Bragg? I’d guess that’s got something to do with it.

Edit: correction, not hung as he had swapped sides and fought for the British and after defeat withdrew to England and died there.

The Confederate officers were largely paroled that’s the difference.

There is a Boot Monument in Saratoga National Park dedicated to him, along with historical markers mentioning him in Danvers, Massachusetts, Moscow, Maine, and 2 in Skowhegan, Maine.
As far as Ft Bragg being named after Braxton Bragg maybe it was because he wasn’t a very good commander he lost the majority of the engagements he led the Army of Tennessee in battle for 😂

Shocked there aren’t more Benedict Arnold bases around.
Great great great Uncle Benny Arnold was misunderstood. It is people like you that forced my Great Grandmother to change the spelling of her name to Arnall. This is her grave in Sperryville Virginia. Notice both spellings on the marker. The statute of limitations finally allowed her to come out of the closet. Don’t you think it’s time to do the same to Braxton Bragg?

Edit: That is actually my great grandmother's grave, seriously. She was born in 1840 and had a daughter, my grandmother, in 1880. My dad was born in 1909, and I was born in 1949. A lot of 40 year olds having children there. I had great grandparents killed fighting for their beloved Virginia in the Civil War.

I don't think we should dig up the Confederate soldier graves, grind up their bones, cast the dust in the sewer, and shame all their descendants. I just don't think we should have a major U.S. government facility named after one.

Seems pretty reasonable.

So, what do you purpose to name it? Fort Floyd? Yeah, let’s name it after a piece of 💩 criminal that once held a knife to the stomach of a pregnant lady. At least he’s black though. Yes, y’all are so he!! bent on getting rid of anything do to do with the south and the confederacy to include shaming the descendants. Never mind that nobody alive today fought in that war (you can’t say the name because you don’t want to offend some bas#### ). Also like nobody alive today was a slave. But let’s wipe out our history and forget the past.
