American Idol 2014

Caleb should win it all. He is headed to stardom. That dude is a performer. The judges appear to want Jena to win and have for several werks.
If Caleb stays true to the rock style he has portrayed on the show I'll buy his music when it comes out.

Apparently Caleb put his foot in his mouth, calling fans retards among other comments that weren't very smart.

When did this all happen?

See MBRO's post for the reason Caleb isn't going to win.

Who is MBRO? Link to post?

I must be watching a different show because for the life of me I don't see what everyone likes about her. IMO she butchers every song she does, and the Elvis song was the biggest hatchet job of them all.

The thing I don't like about Jena is that she is not consistently good with her performances. Every so often she nails a song and does really well but it's few and far between. Her greatest strength is in the slower ballads. When she does the faster paced songs she just blends in with every other singer.

My favorite is out now.

Her best and most emotional song was her vote off performance. I can honestly say I actually felt her conviction.

Alex is my favorite I guess I'd say but I know he's not going to win. He should honestly use a banjo next week and do a country song. That'd be awesome. The idea popped into my head when he sat down in the music store with Jessica.

Sheesh! That was pretty harsh and not PC at all. Girls, hookers, cocaine.

In that same article they revealed who voted NO on sending someone home, Alex and Jena. Interesting.

Completely missed the acronym! :)
When I was growing up back in the 80s the hookers and coke comment would have been viewed as just something an aspiring rock star did. Today it's not very smart thing to say.

If we were in 1984, Caleb would win easily and go on to be a multi-platinum rock star. In 2014, not so much, IMO.

I don't want to undersell Caleb because he is good, but it's obvious they want him to win after last night's episode. I've read where other contestants have performed sick, but Caleb is the only one where they've brought out a doctor to speak to the audience. Add in after every performance the judges mentioned the voice and said the audience should ignore it because of his illness. The only judge to keep it real was Harry who said you have to perform, sick or not.

I think Caleb is talented enough to win, I just don't like the feel of the show pushing him to win. It's supposed to be America's choice. But however it plays out, I think all three finalists can find success.

This is just a shameless plug for my nephew who was on American Idol tonight playing lead guitar for Scotty McCreary. The kid is an amazing talent, and a nice young man.

How cool is that!!! Congrats to your nephew! I guess he makes a living as a musician?

Yeah... he's been playing since he was very young. When other kids would want to play video games, all he ever wanted to do was play his guitar.

I'm pretty sure Scotty has a show in Atlanta this summer so I'll have to ask my nephew about the Idol experience.

They've been pimping both Caleb and Jena for the last 4 weeks now. The last two weeks they had been throwing Alex under a bus subtly. JLo and Keith standing up cheering and dancing for both Caleb and Jena(even when she sucked). JLo dancing like she did when Caleb was performing this last time was just wrong in so many ways.

Jena has had two good songs(Creep and Falling In Love) the entire time and every other one was like a karaoke performance. Both were slow songs so her voice is only good for slow songs.

I agree. Keirh and JLo are terrible judges, imo. They also throwed Jessica under the bus for several weeks and finally got her voted off.

I hope Caleb wins.

Caleb is a great performer. I'm sure he'll have a following. But there's nothing different about him. He sounds like every other rock star to me.

Guess that's why I like Alex and Jena. They don't sound like anybody else.

I haven't been impressed with Jena until her last song Wednesday night playing the piano and singing Creep. I thought that was by far the best performance of the night.

I think Alex has the potential to be a star. He is talented..

He really is.

I think all three of them will have successful careers singing.

That was her second time singing that song on the show in the top 10.

It was Caleb's and Alex's second time singing their songs as well. The hometowns got to pick that song, but their choice was limited to previously sung songs.

Harry is by far the best judge. While Keith and J-Lo were tripping over themselves making excuses for Caleb's illness, Harry simply said everyone gets sick but you still have to perform. Keith seems like he'd be a really nice guy, but he isn't great at being critical. J-Lo may be sexy, but she knows it and it's given her a big ego. I'm not sure she's the best one to be giving singing advice as she's more of a dancer than a singer. She comes across as extremely fake IMO.

I think a judging panel that had Harry and Simon Cowell would be extremely interesting. I know some were not fans of Simon's candidness, but he kept it real. His criticism came with bite, but it was honest.

I think the judges are told to critique some of the contestants harder and promote others, based on who the producers want to win. I still think the show would be better without judges once it goes to live voting. I don't need a judge to tell me who did well and who didn't.

I think the judges should be there to honestly help the contestants. I'm all for fair, unbiased critiques, but like you, I agree that the producers ask them to sell certain contestants more. Harry's the one judge on the panel that I feel hasn't sold out in some way. I also think the contestants would benefit from real mentors. Randy isn't really a mentor. He's just kind of there. A real mentor would help them with song choices and the development of stage presence IMO.

One thing I've heard about Idol is that they extremely limit the songs contestants can choose from. They're given a theme then a short list of songs that fall within that theme to choose from. I'm assuming maybe it's a royalties thing, but when they talk about opening the "song book", it's a very limited book.

Yes, I was just informing gramps. He replied like perhaps that was the first time he heard her sing Creep. Maybe I'm wrong.

Honestly, they should stop giving the judges a grand, walk-in entrance when they get to the live voting, having them already in their seats. It's about the contestants not them. Thanks for taking the job, but you don't need a cheer every time an episode starts.
