American Idol: Season 10

I agree volly. I also think the country market is probably easier to crack than rock or pop. Also, you just don't see that many female rockers.

At this point I really don't care who wins. Hard to dislike either after those home visits. The ultimate prize for them all is the opportunity to be heard while also being groomed by people that have been successful in the business. One of the best changes this season was the opportunity to work with Jimmy Iovine all year. I'd be surprised if the top 4 (5-6-more?) don't all get a record deal.

Lauren better hurt up and sign record deal. That thing following her around is getting larger.

Yeah, she is definitely a big girl. I think she may have actually lost weight the past couple of months though.

The look of shock on Bennyjet's face was hilarious. You don't win AI singing Robert Plant with your pop playing geetar.

Nope . . . As cool as it seemed to people like me, she probably lost more and more of the teeny boppers and soccer moms with each guitar riff. Durbin, Casey and Haley just didn't have much of a chance past the top 5 or so. There's a reason why past American Idols have included Kris Allen and Taylor Hicks.

Her dad looks just like Michael McKean. I guess that was her Spinal Tap moment.

Explain to me again why it's necessary to comment on Lauren's weight or shape?

Guys (those of you have daughters especially), please think twice about being so vocally opinionated on a woman's body. I realize this isn't the thread for this, but it's struck a nerve with me tonight. Very few of us will ever be able to live up to the perceived expectations of what men call "acceptable", and then people wonder why the self esteem of women is so bad. Quit being so freaking judgemental!

And now, back to your regularly scheduled programing.

Perhaps the most telling piece that has been written on Durbin:

James Durbin: Still an Idol | Child Mind Institute
My oldest son has Asperger's Syndrome. I watched James Durbin in the same way as the people in the article, seeing very familiar behaviors, reactions and mannerisms. Unless you're close to a situation like that, you have no idea how incredible it is that he handled the workload and stress as well as he did.

It's just conversation. Personally, I wouldn't go quite as far as a couple of comments I've seen when talking about a 16 year old girl . . . which is why I made sure to include "no big deal" in my last comment about her weight, but it's something I've heard people comment on. The downside of her new found fame is that she's going to grow up in public and have to endure scrutiny.

Wasn't directed towards you at all GAVol. It just showed up after your post.

Ok. Maybe my comments were a little insensitive. But the harsh reality is the music industry wil be far less kind than I've been.
I think Lauren is great.

She said in an interview after the first few weeks that she was starting to watch what she was eating because she didn't know she looked like that. That was on a local station in Chattanooga.

She's really not that big though, to be honest. Also, my neighbors somehow know the family and she's lost 15 lbs since that interview.

You're right. Still doesn't make it okay to judge young girl's weight and body shape. And I don't see it ever changing in our society. Just makes me sad that one of the most beautiful traits a woman can have is confidence, and people work to destroy it at every turn whether intentionally or not.
