American Sniper

ok, my apologies for not seeing Volatile's note about the Pentagon not counting all that he and his associates give him credit for. That's up for debate. Kyle himself claims that each kill is listed in the AARs. Rumors swirl about what a confirmed kill is though. So that number could be anything north of 159. Not sure how the number even got out in the first place.

There is absolutely no evidence or witnesses that can support the Katrina story or the carjacking story and it has basically been proven without doubt that the Jesse Ventura story was fabricated. Ventura wasn't even there when said event happened. Therefore, calling him a pathological liar is still very much fair game.

Several others closer to the story disagree with you...

One Navy SEAL's Opinion Of The Jesse Ventura Situation | SOFREP
From Brandon Webb (basically rewrote the book for NSW Sniper curriculum)

Witnesses rebut Ventura's assertion that fight was a lie | Star Tribune
Actual testimony from several witnesses (3 of whom are decorated team members)

Yet after two weeks of testimony — during which seven SEALs and several civilian witnesses said they either heard Ventura denigrate the specialized Navy unit (which stands for Sea, Air, Land); saw Kyle deck Ventura at McP’s Irish Pub & Grill in Coronado, Calif., on Oct. 12, 2006; or watched Ventura “get up off the ground with help from his friends,” Studebaker said — jurors returned an 8-2 verdict in favor of Ventura.
Lake Oswego mayor: Chris Kyle 'did not lie'

That's well and good, but we can stick to the court settlement. The first link doesn't even give an answer. Last link is the father in law.

Civil suit settlements/judgements seeking compensation for "said" incident doesn't disprove that it did/did not occur.

You have your opinion and I have mine.

I don't have a dog in the fight but I've never seen people be so defensive (on both sides) about a movie. It's nuts.

Not really about a movie though is it...I myself and weirdly ambiguous about war..on one hand I am horrified by the destruction of life and homes, on the other hand history has taught us many many times that sometimes you have to have war to make peace. Some soldiers are brutal evil beings, others are heros. My grandaddy was a ww2 vet, he is my hero. I have met many vets, most of them are much better men than me. I love my country, I am not ashamed of that, even though there are instances that it has done shameful things. You guys that hate our country, and mock the greatness of it...make me sick. We are not perfect, but there is no other pkace on Earth like it. I am proud to be a patriotic American. You cynical, ironically detached types should maybe go to France, you would fit in well there.

And yet you don't like Slaughterhouse 5? The bold is basically the entire message of that book.

"Do you know what I say to people when I hear they're writing anti-war books? . . . I say, 'Why don't you write an anti-glacier book instead?" - Harrison Starr being interviewed by Vonnegut in the first chapter of SH5.

Ashamed to say that I never tried to read it. I will however on your recommendation. To be honest, I started reading a Vonnegut book when I was young (don't even remember which one) and didn't like it. So I never read anything else of his.

I haven't read SH5 in years. This made me want to crack it open again.

Agreed. And the thing is there's nothing controversial.

I don't know why the left was so up in arms about it. It doesn't glorify killing. It's not a " 'Merican killing all them dirty 'A'rabs" like the liberals' response portrayed.

I'm guessing those that complained about it were reacting based on their assumptions rather than waiting to see it.

Don't really have a problem with the movie, thought it was rather good, but was the main character really such a simpleton? I mean I thank him for his service, but I thought he was portrayed to be someone that was not the brightest spark. You would think you would have to be somewhat intelligent to be in an elite unit in the US military...

Finally got to see the movie. I thought it was better than I expected going in.

I will not comment further. My views tend to be slightly skewed.

I would wager a guess that your skewed thoughts are in line with most Americans.

I myself, got a better look in to the things our soldiers go through, then trying to adjust after coming home. My heart goes out to you guys and gals.
