It doesn't sound like the congress is interested in anymore immigration legislation for the next year or more. This may have been the last shot for a while to fund increased border security. This bill had something in it for every person to hate, though .. so no suprise it failed. The compromise of the final wording killed this bill ...

The unfortunate part is that there were plenty of provisions in the bill that would have gone a long way to protecting our borders....

How do people feel about forcing all illegal immigrants to return to their home country and then apply for a visa to re-enter as a "migrant" worker? Wasn't this an ammendment to the bill? In theory, I like it. But, how do all those people get home? That would be a nice bill to foot....

How about providing the buses for them to get to the border and then enforcing the laws we already have?? Why do we need more laws to enforce when we can't even enforce the one's we have?? Don't even get me started on the Dept. of Homeland Security the most USELESS organization in the US. WE are just as unsecure as we were on 9-11. If they wanted to secure us that much the fence would have been built. Besides, I sure that the legislation that was in that bill was similar to the legislation they made earlier this year that funded the fence but if they didn't start it by a certain date or have a certain amount built the money would divert to other Dept.'s in the government for use.

Why do we need a bill to do that? Can't they already do that? What stops an illegal now from returning to Mexico and going to the U.S. embassy and applying for a work visa to work legally in the U.S.?

What stops them? Simple, why bother to go home and spend all that money trying to become legal when it is so easy to be illegal and there are absolutly zero reprecusions. It is much easier to break the law than to follow it.

Whether your dealing with immigration, crime, fear of terrorism, etc., etc., the one true way to protect yourself and feel safe is to reside in Kennessaw, GA. {City ordinance - all residents are required, yes required, to complete handgun training...and own and possess one in their home. Not much goes on in Kennessaw}.

I like the sound of that town. Hey, did you guys know that in Virginia you can carry a hangun on your person so long as it isn't cocealed? That's awesome. As long as you are not crazy I think it is your God given duty to own a firearm. Please no crazies though...

Yup and that right there is the biggest problem. We have immigration standards in this country for a reason so immigration doesn't "Dumb" down the country. The wages are driven lower by the illegals and the society's intelligence is as well. WE have laws and standards, ENFORCE THEM!!

It was naive to think congress or the federal gov would do anything different this time around. Many of the so called laws that were put into place resulted from the landmark failure of the 1986 amnesty deal. This was the same thing, with more promises of enforcement. I just think Americans these days have a general mistrust towards their government and rightfully so.

Actually, Kennesaw is a N.ATL suburb, outside Marietta. Most places do issue permits with proper background checks, that allow for carrying unconcealed weapons. Most don't flaunt it. In my hometown a highschool buddy always ran the gun shop side of the big pawn shop, and always walked in/out with his holster on and packed.

Because under our current visa standards, they would never be allowed into the country legally. It is very hard for people from Mexico to enter the US legally (for more than just a trip) - or so I hear. I believe that the ammendment made special provisions to accept the visas - and then track the individuals through the visa more carefully.

Yeah, I mean carrying it concealed is a better deal but out in California it is almost impossible to get a CCW or California Concealed Weapons permit. I just like the fact that in Virginia you can carry it so long as it is visible. In that case you don't have to get a permit or anything which is interesting.

Didn't realize VA had that law. I know for certain that Arizona does though.

Great! Now we know who to thank for allowing at least two more years of true amnesty. Thanks for killing immigration reform. We'll see at least two more years of more illegals piling up. There goes more jobs, higher healthcare costs, higher education costs, higher auto insurance costs....can I send my part of the bill to the people against reform?

Did I ever say it would fix it all? No. But assuming is something you've mastered.

Well the opponents got their way and now the problem gets worse. So if I had to choose between the two of shooting it down and forcing two more years of amnesty and problems or actually addressing mulitple aspects of the problem, I'd choose addressing multiple aspects.

The funny thing is that people kept saying they have no faith the government can do anything and enforce the borders but yet they said that is all that needs to be done now. That makes loads of sense. Shoot down the method you advocate....

Why do you launch so easily into personal shots?

Did I say you said that it would fix it all?

I just called it as I saw it. You always make assumptions on my comments. You imply I say or believe something I don't. So I responded. Sorry I bruised your feelings. Forgive me?

Believe me, you did not bruise my feelings. You can say anything you want and I will not be offended. I was just curious. But at least you have proof that I "always make assumptions" on your comments. No need to forgive unless you want forgiveness, which I doubt you do.

Moving on....so where do we go from here? More illegals means more tax burden. Are you ready to fork over more tax money for those still coming in?
