Amnesty Bill SHOT DOWN!!!

Well the baby is back to sleep....I'm outta here. Teddy the floor is all yours....start building that fence. I expect the border to be secure by the 4th.

So why do you think the bill was so soundly defeated?

One last comment....it wasn't soundly defeated first of all. Cloture was secured initially. Talk radio inspired enough people to call and the squeaky wheel gets the oil. That's the way the system works. All it takes is a very loud minority in this country to move the process. I still am willing to bet a large majority of those who called their Senators never even read the bill and relied on TV or radio for their info.

Are you saying the Nation is uninformed?

Do a poll on how many people read the bill....and then do a poll on whether they agreed with it....see the numbers and see what matched. You would have been one who hadn't read the bill but said you opposed it. Others would as well. I'm not calling them stupid. I'm saying that people often vote without fully reading, knowing, or understanding what they vote for. Clinton was re-elected and so was Bush if that explains anything.

Night CS. I would like to talk to you tomorrow if at all possible. I have a lot I need to tell you. Get some rest, your gonna need it.:hi:

time to call a spade a spade:

Section 601(h) Treatment of Applicants

(1)IN GENERAL --An alien who files application for Z-nonimmigrant status shall, upon submission of any evidence required under paragraphs (f) and (g) and after the Secretary has conducted appropriate background checks, to include name and fingerprint checks, that have not by the end of the next business day produced information rendering the applicant ineligible

(A)be granted probationary benefits in the form of employment authorization pending final adjudication of the alien's application;

(B)may in the Secretary's discretion receive advance permission to re-enter the United States pursuant to existing regulations governing advance parole;

(C)may not be detained for immigration purposes, determined inadmissible or deportable, or removed pending final adjudication of the alien's application, unless the alien is determined to be ineligible for Z nonimmigration status; and

(D) may not be considered an unauthorized alien (as defined in Section 274A(h)(3) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1324a(h)(3))) unless employment authorization under subparagraph (A) is denied.

thorough background checks can take upwards of 6 months in some cases because not every aspect of a person's background can be checked via computerized database.

Make sure you emphasize this part:

(B)may in the Secretary's discretion receive advance permission to re-enter the United States pursuant to existing regulations governing advance parole;

It's all a part of your enforce the laws first....there you go forgetting the part you keep pushing.

if the laws aren't being enforced now, what incentive is there to enforce them with the new bill? and if the current laws were being enforced, there would be no point in the current legislation, would there?

Go back and read page after page. The reason most of the current laws cannot be enforced is that the agencies in charge of these matters are understaffed, underresourced, and underfunded. That bill actually provided all of that.

Consider it giving more tools to get the job done. It also closes loopholes on many of the laws used by illegals to get legal status or stay in undetected. But we'd rather keep it full of loopholes and allow for some partial fence to get the job done right?

So your telling me that the tax money we send isn't funding our own national security?? Wow, our government has no clue on how to budget. Guess they need to tell all the people up there we aren't paying for their little getaways anymore so we can have some security in our country. You wait though, I guarantee you if another 9-11 happens that border with be shut down quicker than Rosie O'Donnell's fork going in her mouth.

Did I say that? Nope. I said there was not enough. If there was enough why are the 'secure the borders first' crowd calling for supplemental bills for more money and agents....the same thing this bill called for in addition to closing loopholes.

Let me ask you this - do you support a national ID?

Sure, why not support a national ID because its just the same as having a drivers license anyways. Its will also help cut down on forgery of documents in order to get a passport. It will help if its done right, but this is our government we are talking about here. Government and the word right don't exactly flow together.

Are you willing to pay for the ID's of those who don't drive?/have licenses? Or do you want to force people to pay for ID's for the benefit of all people having them?

We have a national ID. You now have to have it assigned during your first year of life and it stays with you as long as you live. Of course, since it is of the government it is poorly done, easily faked and used for purposes not originally intended.

Your question is more properly asked as "do you support an improved, more high tech national ID?"

If the government can't stop document counterfeiting it would not accomplish anything other than adding to the payroll.

So you don't mind havng the government force people who don't drive to purchase ID's? Wow. Talk about government power. Round up the old folks in nursing homes.

I am sure it could be made "free" to get your ID card. It would just be rolled out of the overall taxes they collect. Plenty of people pay taxes that go to public schools and do not use the public schools. Not that much of a stretch for the government.

That was attempted here in GA and the advocates of the poor and elderly said it was quite difficult to get these people to travel 50+ miles to get them. Gotta hand it to logistics.

And don't forget that if the government is doing it they'll find the most expensive method of doing this. This will negate about 10 bridges to nowhere to accomplish....many pissed legislators.

There are already provisions in most states to allow the poor to get state ID cards at a discount/free. How did the poor/elderly get their ID's to begin with since a picture ID is required for almost every transaction in the US?
