An intelligent, thoughtful discussion on the pros and cons of marijuana

Does anyone think it shouldn't be legal? That's a minority opinion these days.

if it were legalized, the government could tax and regulate it, just like tobacco and alcohol.

if it were de-criminalized, you'd still have to acquire it through a grey market economy or grow it yourself but it's not something you'll go to jail for unless it becomes a crossing state lines thing.

I'm on the fence. I know a lot of mean drunks, but I don't know of anybody who gets belligerent if they're stoned.

i know of cops in this town who have bought weed and coke, and beat teenagers. in no way am i sayin all police officers are bad, but guys the legal system is in bad shape. and repeatedly i see kids i went to school with gettin arrested for possesion. all they have to do is follow the money trail if they wanted to stop the big distributers, but they dont. there was one detective who actually protected a guy in town that i know. its in every town too guys.

Dont know why it is still illegal if they are going to sell beer/cigs which obviously kill and ruin lives. Only thing weed does to you is make you hungry, happy, and sleepy.

I would have to say it does a little more. I witnessed it's affects first hand in college and while I don't believe it is addictive to the point that you can't stop, the idea of being high is very addictive. My roommate couldn't go to class in the morning without smoking his roaches from the night before. If he didn't have the money or couldn't find someone to buy off of, he was beside himself. He was angry and couldn't function everyday tasks. He was also very lazy and somewhat of a slob. You can become addicted to just about anything and show similar signs like these, I know. I love the guy and as far as I know, now, he has "cleaned" himself up, but watching him completely turned me off to potheads.

That being said, I drank entirely too much in college and was 1000 more times as wild as he was. His only concern was to get high and sit in a dark room and listen to music. My concern was getting drunk and going to that night's hang out spot. Usually driving recklessly to get there, and being an absolute idiot while I was there.

I do not feel that it should be illegal, but I, also, have no use for a pothead.

I have known someone that was like your friend. I dont understand that. If you have to depend on anything to run your life, you have a problem. With that being said, I dare say you wouldn't have a use for me then. I work a full time job (that required a college degree) and still do it reguarly. The "potheads" that drive me nuts are the nuts who live and die by mary jane. I honestly am not the typical smoker. It is just something I do, like anything else. I dont even smoke cigs or drink.

I'm sure he was like that before the demon weed took hold of him. Mommy had his back until he met the big bad world. Was probly a mean evil lazy prick before you knew him.

I think mine and your definition of a pothead is different. He couldn't function like a normal person when he wasn't high. He let it control him and he wouldn't take care of himself.

Maybe I was too harsh because my biggest gripe with him was always 2 things. You had to be extra quiet because the cops were always ready to bust through the door and arrest them. (Something to do with the paranoia, maybe?) And, they always, ALWAYS ended up cooking something and leaving food strung out everywhere.

No doubt, he probably had some of these attributes before college. But I knew him before college and all I can say is the weed changed him. He has since cleaned it up and he is a great father and husband, but he was different in college. I just don't think you can say weed doesn't affect people.

That is solely my point. I don't think mj should be illegal. I think it was strictly fear mongering and political agendas that made it illegal. It's affects on the human body and actions are less harmful than alcohol. But, he was a slob because of the marijuana. I firmly believe that.

Just like most things in life...good for some, not so much for others. For example, my good friend has had a bad stomach problem since he was a baby. I forget the medical term for it, but its like a bad bad ulcer. They give him meds to take, but a few years back he was getting tired of how the meds made him feel (weak, headaches, etc) so he smoked some mj. He hasn't taken a pill since. Stomach hurts=smoking. Like I said..good for some, bad for others.

I can think of 13274107410 things worse than pot if I had enough time.

Put the pipe down and stop procrastinating.:)

I kid, I kid.

I'll say this...

Given the choice between a drunk driver or a stoned driver on the other side of the road, I'll take the stoned guy every time. You know he'll only be going 25mph.

No joke. First time I smoked was when I was 17. I was at a friends house. I left there and started heading home. I was driving down US41 (ringgold rd for those chatt ppl) and a car started honking at me. I was driving 15mph in a 40 mph zone. I mean it was my first time and I was young and dumb.
