Lets look at some facts before we jump off the hill. We are no longer an elite program. Nobody wants to be our coach. We have sucked for several years now. We are a bottom dweller in the SEC. Our attendance has fallen off. We cannot keep in state talent. Alabama, Notre Dame , USC are getting our best in state players. We were beaten by Kentucky last year, We were beaten by Vandy this year. We have a fan base that is always running down everything associated with Tennessee Football. And yet we wonder why we cannot get a top flight coach. Now we hire a coach that was about our fourth choice and everyone wants to run him down. All I have to say is this continues to hurt our school and its recruiting for the future. Lets act like adults and get behind someone that has said yes to Tennessee. Not one of the many who have turned us down. I support our players and coaches , whomever they might be. Go Vols !!!! Potential recruits....................please come and play for us. We desperately need you, especially our in state talent.

I won't. I got the renewal forms in the mail earlier this week and still have them sitting out on the counter. I guess it's time to go ahead and relocate those to the trash can. Oh well, at least this frees up a lot of my fall weekends for the next few years.

Still praying that this is a smokescreen........there are other coaches that would come with a more proven track record like Tubbs, Pelini, etc.. Would even prefer Dabo Sweeney to Jones. He may work out, but this is a yawn hire if there ever was one.

This is a huge cluster FK. I just dont understand how we hired Jones when we had NFL coaches interested in us. This just makes no sense.

No way am I excited about this hire. Totally deflated in regards to the football program. Hart, Cheek and whoever else that botched this thing needs to be gone by Monday.

Tickets were available for this years KY Game for $9. Looks like cheap tickets will remain. I bleed Orange and will support this hire 100%, even though I am very disappointed with the choice. Also, I will support Dave Hart's firing 100%. It is time to hire a Tennessee man for AD, Not an Alabama man, and not the Florida man that was his predecessor. Time to bring Fulmer back as AD, not as a coach. Then, and only then will we get an AD who cares as much about a hire as the fans.

Not excited about another spread em' out and fling it around kind of coach. His coaching style translated great in the MAC. So, esssentially, we fired Dooley, to hire a Dooley-like coach. Granted, he has more experience, a hopefully better luck. I pray that he has great assistants, or will keep Graham, Pittman and possibly Chaney. His selection for a DC is paramount. If he brings his UC DC, I'm out.

This fan base wasn't going to be happy unless we landed Gruden or Strong and neither wanted the job. I'm happy with the Butch Jones hiring and willing to give him a chance. Most experts consider him a very good and upcoming coach and he's had great success at Cincinnati. Time to stop crying and get behind the new coach and lets see what he can do...let's face it, not many coaches WANTED this job.

When the attendance and merchandise sales are down and the University cannot buy a computer or a textbook they can thank the current admin and this hire

So, Alabama reaches deep in their pockets, to afford Saban. Plus, they bit the bullet, and LOWERED ACADEMIC STANDARDS. Meanwhile, UT FIRES FULMER. Then Hamilton hires that dumpster fire, Kiffin. All the while, Jimmy Cheek raises academic standards, effectively turning away athletes that normally come to UT. Then, after Kiffin burns the place down, Hamilton goes cheap, and hires Dooley. Hart steps in. After three miserable years, Hart fires Dooley. Then goes cheap and hires Jones. Meanwhile, the academic standards remain.

In case you haven't already realized this............

These guys are not interested in winning!!!

A. For a whole lot of reasons, UT is not the desirable destination job it once was.

B. We swung for the fences with Gruden and missed (Why? See "A")

C. Fisher, Gundy and Strong chose to stay (Why? See "A").

D. We got a coach who has shown he can win, who still has fire in his belly, and who really wanted to come here.

So get off your freakin' high horses, move on and give the guy a chance.

All i got to say is he** yes. Do you have any idea how long ive waited to have a coach with a redneck name like butch. If he can get no more than 11 players on the field consistently an keep the o line from getting 50 false start penalties a game then yes ill be happy

Man I really wish Vols fans would stop B****ing and just support the program. Everyone wanted Dooley gone and it was done and now the fans are crying because we didn't hire who they wanted. Oh well. Look at it this way at least Jones knows what it is like to have a winning season. He's had a winning season in 5 of his 6 years as head coach. That is something this football team desperately needs right now. Give the guy a chance. No body will want to coach here if the fan base runs off every coach that doesn't beat Alabama, UF, UGA, and USCe every single time we play them.
