All the while, Jimmy Cheek raises academic standards, effectively turning away athletes that normally come to UT. Then, after Kiffin burns the place down, Hamilton goes cheap, and hires Dooley. Hart steps in. After three miserable years, Hart fires Dooley. Then goes cheap and hires Jones. Meanwhile, the academic standards remain.

Hart had to do something, just be lucky we got Jones because of this would of went any further we would be getting some guy from the University of Delaware as our coach. I'm sure Hart wouldn't of went cheap if we could of got someone worth paying for.

Man I really wish Vols fans would stop B****ing and just support the program. Everyone wanted Dooley gone and it was done and now the fans are crying because we didn't hire who they wanted. Oh well. Look at it this way at least Jones knows what it is like to have a winning season. He's had a winning season in 5 or his 6 years as head coach. That is something this football team desperately needs right now. Give the guy a chance. No body will want to coach here if the fan base runs off every coach that doesn't beat Alabama, UF, UGA, and USCe every single time we play them.

No, everyone's mad because we didn't upgrade our status in the SEC. At the beginning of the 2012 season, UT had one of the 3 worst coaches in the SEC. After the hiring season has come and gone, that is still the case. Every other SEC school made a nice upgrade. We didn't.

I agree. I know some will say fair weather fans but I will not support an administration that is only interested in their bottom line and not interested in winning.

This fan base wasn't going to be happy unless we landed Gruden or Strong and neither wanted the job. I'm happy with the Butch Jones hiring and willing to give him a chance. Most experts consider him a very good and upcoming coach and he's had great success at Cincinnati. Time to stop crying and get behind the new coach and lets see what he can do...let's face it, not many coaches WANTED this job.

A. For a whole lot of reasons, UT is not the desirable destination job it once was.

B. We swung for the fences with Gruden and missed (Why? See "A")

C. Fisher, Gundy and Strong chose to stay (Why? See "A").

D. We got a coach who has shown he can win, who still has fire in his belly, and who really wanted to come here.

So get off your freakin' high horses, move on and give the guy a chance.

You are wrong about UT not being desirable. You are also wrong about why Fisher, Strong, and Gundy didn't come. Two of them wanted raises. The other was loyal to his team. We just have a ad that didn't even bother meeting with him himself. He sent Cheek to do it. According to Strong we contacted him once on Friday then didn't even pressure him. He said it was one of the hardest decisions he has ever made. We have the worst ADs in the nation.

I understand what your saying, but what can we do when upper level coaches are turning us down? I think a lot of people are just made because we hired a coach that lost to Dooley. We just had more talent then Cinncy, I don't think Dooley out coached Jones. I'm gonna support this program, coach and the kids that choose to play for it until the day I die. Do I think we should of got someone better then Jones? Yes, but that's who we got and he can't be any worse then Dooley. As far as a baseball analogy my brother likened this to a bunt about to be thrown out. For me he is at the plate with an automatic 3/2 fullcount meaning it could go either way.

Here are some things that will warm me up to him:
1. Not hearing that this will take X number of years to fix. Tired of hearing it and no it is not true

2. He settles for nothing less than championships period starting today. I know, saying it does not mean much but it does matter for the mind set of this program.

3. Hiring a good DC. Might I suggest the Stoops brother at Oklahoma, dude was not a good HC but is a very focused DC and would be a serious upgrade!

4. Lands a 12th ranked recruiting class or better. Considering were we are at now would be a good improvement.

5. Improvement and discipline in the spring game. This fanbase seriously needs something to look forward to

6. Take back Neyland!! This place is the most intimidating when 95000+ orange clad fans back you!!

7. 8-4 minimum with improvement as the season progresses. If Ole Miss can go 6-6 showing improvement as the season goes in the much tougher west then UT with better players and facilities should be at least 8-4 in the east.

8. Most important game for Jones next year UGA at home.

A little more perspective on that. We hired a guy who lost by 22 points to the same team that JOKER PHILLIPS BEAT WITH NO QB.

Lets look at some facts before we jump off the hill. We are no longer an elite program. Nobody wants to be our coach. We have sucked for several years now. We are a bottom dweller in the SEC. Our attendance has fallen off. We cannot keep in state talent. Alabama, Notre Dame , USC are getting our best in state players. We were beaten by Kentucky last year, We were beaten by Vandy this year. We have a fan base that is always running down everything associated with Tennessee Football. And yet we wonder why we cannot get a top flight coach. Now we hire a coach that was about our fourth choice and everyone wants to run him down. All I have to say is this continues to hurt our school and its recruiting for the future. Lets act like adults and get behind someone that has said yes to Tennessee. Not one of the many who have turned us down. I support our players and coaches , whomever they might be. Go Vols !!!! Potential recruits....................please come and play for us. We desperately need you, especially our in state talent.

I love these high and mighty guys that feel like it's the fans fault. The idiot tea bagging tree killing bama fans didn't scare Saban off. This is the absolute worst hire they could have made. Fans tend to get a little bit pissy when they pay the highest prices in the SEC to watch crappy coached football. I won't pay $2400 for season tickets this year. Me and the kids have a high definition tv at home that works just fine. It's really not about Butch Jones the person. It's about the AD screwing over the fans every chance they get. Plain and simple.

Based on Jones' past record, I give it 2-3 yrs max and then the fans will call for his firing too...hes NOT a top-tier coach, and ONLY has 6 yrs head coaching experience...but he did win 2 of the 3 years he was at Cincinnati, guess we see how next season goes and if he dont win much then we will KNOW that Hart f***ed up AGAIN!!!

I hope Jones is the guy. But the truth is we are one step closer to seeing a return of UT. The guy sounds good. He sounds like he's willing to put the work in. He's a player's coach. He has a solid record of winning games. He has a solid record of having teams that play above their talent level.

If he fails... then we'll try again in a couple or 3 years.
