Anastasia Hayes dismissed.

From a basketball standpoint, losing Annie is a blow. She provided a change of pace, slash and drive option that the LVs had not had for several seasons. If she developed a more consistent jump shot, she was going to be a very tough player to guard. She had potential to be a lockdown defender. I don't think she was that good last year on the defensive end because her positioning was often poor and she would take some possessions "off." But those are typical freshman mistakes that you expect to diminish with experience. This loss also puts more pressure on Westbrook, though Evina does not seem to mind that. The key is whether she can stay healthy. And, this unfortunate development does leave the door open for the new recruits to claim a major role and they will have the advantage of Evina now being a more experienced player as well.

Really sad to see so many on here trash Hayes and her family right after she’s dismissed from the team. We don’t know the details, but this doesn’t appear to be a Te’a Cooper situation where there was a physical altercation or major chemistry issue. Nor do we do not have any reason to believe that Hayes is a bad person or a bad teammate. I thought she played quite hard last year and was a joy to watch through an up and down freshman campaign. I hope people can give a 19 year old the benefit of the doubt and say “good luck”, move on, and focus on the upcoming year.

Mlindsay... you seem to be a fan of the Hayeses. Where do you think she will end up?
First off, I a fan of all the players and I honestly don’t know, Memphis adding the Williams twins next season and the possibly of the next sister (who just visited) looks intriguing, MTSU (the family has a familiarity with the coaches there and the former Ole Miss coach is now on that staff)

The question is does she have to sit out a year or will she been able to play immediately

These 2 quotes combined are probably the most hypocritical posts I have ever read in VN. Actually, the 2nd one by itself probably is.

Let's see, you haven't heard all sides, don't have a clue really what happened or how they were handled, yet you are attacking and jumping to your own conclusion. Beautiful.
I simply asked a question, something is going on within our program that needs to be address and it seems to keep being swept under the rug, I simply asked how does she survive it if things like this continue to happen

Diamond leaving, Te’a being dismissed, and now Annie, and in every instance the so called fans seem to turn their backs and destroy these young ladies when previously they were praising them and listing the as the next great Lady Vols

So the second one wasn’t hypocritical it is askin the same for Holly as well, Let’s not jump and start throwing around who did what and let’s let the story unfold!

My simple question of asking How Holly survives is to ask how does things like this continue to occur in her program? Whether you want to believe it or not these stories play a role on recruits and their parents and yes we’ve been doing a great job on the recruiting trail but we need to continue to do that and the more occurrences that take place the chances of us continuing the great recruiting is impacted

Looks like they are being handled correctly.. U just hate Holly so you're looking for reasons...
Don’t hate Holly at all, again I asked a question and whether anybody believe it or not for these incidents to continue to occur somehow things aren’t being managed properly, yes the coaches can’t be with the players 24/7 but measures can be put into place to ensure these incidents don’t happen

As a die hard Lady Vol fan why wouldn’t I want Holly to be successful? When she wins I can brag that my Lady Vols are champions!

Thank you my point exactly! As soon as something happens concerning a player leaving the agenda around here is to act like that player was the worst thing to happen to UT and the Lady Vol program and it just isn’t fair. Wish her (and whoever leaves your program) the best and keep it moving!

Whoa ... we’ve always respected each other so u can chill with the first off becuz it came off rude. Second off you haven’t always been a fan of our players becuz u criticized Russell heavily and to some (not me) it came off overly harsh. Just like you, I asked a simple question. But if memory serves me when Daddy Hayes was vocal and sorta rude to CHW you were on their Twitter accounts agreeing and co-signing (again I didn’t see it as a yay or nay move) .I was getting your opinion because you seemed to know about the hayes family and follow them there was no shade in my question I was just curious what you thought because It had been fun to bounce ideas off each other and talk about Paul VI and Amira Collins...

I do agree about not bashing players but while it’s NOT right it’s not uncommon and yes a bit classless. When the girl left UCONN for MsSt they bashed her all up and down and then I SAW the video which was taken down of Geno doing the same thing! Then they followed it up by bashing Samantha Brunelle for shunning them for ND. That’s still in print and the Boneyard went in on her. Same with Charli Collier for switching up commitments. So it happens it sucks but it happens.

The first of all wasn’t an attempt to be disrespectful at all, I said it to clear up the speculation of many posters on here who seem to think I have some kind of allegiance to the Hayes family so if it came off as disrespectful I apologize!

Concerning Russell I’ve been a fan of hers and still is my criticism of her (and many took it as hating and I understand) was asking her to dominate like the Post Players I am use to the Lady Vols having and I’ve also apologized to her and her family if my views came across that way!

My supporting Hayes and her family on Twitter, I would’ve done the same thing with any family member of any of our players be I’ve been there and have seen how folk can take what they see or read somewhere else and change the context of it!

Her Dad’s initial rant was in a group on FB and the first thing people did was bring it to here even after he apologized and that action left him and myself in a negative eyes of many for which even the Westbrook’s blocked me on social media because of my views and I get that!

I have always spoke my mind and don’t know any other way!

Again I apologize if the first of all came of as rude because that wasn’t my intention!

I’m glad you clarified and I’m glad we can continue to support OUR LVs together ! We all need to band together especially going into battle with the evil empire up north 😂 (I’m not hating I know they r good I just want to add some levity to the situation).

Side note: does anyone else listen to Kara Lawson and just think she views the game in a different manner? I’m so glad she is covering the Mystics she brings a fun tone to the games.

Yes we have to stick together, other fan bases love that we aren’t where we one was (we are not far from returning there though, I truly believe that) because they know if we do return to a Final Four or win a title it is a wrap! And I hope we destroy them next year (the evil empire) I’m tired of him and his fan base, yes they are good but his disrespect (and this is my opinion) for the game at times really bothers me!

Concerning Kara I love having her call the games she is the best commentator in the Women’s game hands down! She isn’t one sided like Lobo who seems to make it her business to praise the former Huskies at all cost!

You mentioned Diamond leaving and then Tea Cooper. Let’s understand what happened! First Tea got into a fight with another player plus what ever else was involved. Then the University of Tennessee gave her a choice and Tea decided to leave ! Diamond came to UT so she could play with Tea. Diamond did not like how UT handled her friend and since she could not play with her friend and mad at Tennessee! She took her basketball and left !!!
NOW ANNIE: We don’t know the rules broken and this situation has absolutely NOTHING to do with Tea and Diamond. That being said : I don’t see a correlation of any of the three being a trend.

And I hope it isn’t a trend but as a fan base we can’t deny that it has a negative effect on our program! If it didn’t we wouldn’t have parents of players were recruiting to make comments such as the ones Horston mom made stating to take your visits and not listen to what anyone says about a school.

It wouldn’t. Coach Schafer won’t play those games with the daddy. Neither will ANY coach of a program that already has elite guards on on the roster or can get elite guards every year. Their best bet is to go somewhere where they can be the stars and where the coach is desperate enough to try to appease him. Memphis would be perfect. Coach McFerrin knows her job is on the line. She just signed a top 35 in-state post player and her twin sister (both 4 stars and VERY good kids) and would take all the Hayes in heartbeat. Would give her left arm right about now...drama and all. #ShesOnTheHotseatBoo lol

McGuff could put up with it and hire her Daddy. Wait, you said Elite coach didn't you. nevermind. :p

The NCAA conducts random tests which require student athletes to pee in a cup. There are clearly defined punishments for student athletes who fail these tests. After a certain number of failures, a student athlete becomes ineligible for NCAA competition.

This is true... but how do we know she didn’t keep breaking curfew or going home when she was supposed to be back on campus something like that? I have no clue what she did and failing a drug test is a possibility but not the first place my mind is going to.

I agree that there is no reason to speculate about failed drug tests. But, I would be surprised if an athlete is dismissed from the program for a curfew violation. A dismissal is likely to be a more serious violation than that.

Time to move on! Hopefully Massengill can fill the void and maybe one of the top 2019 guards will commit. Rogers is a possibility but wha about Zia Cooke?

“ Multiple Team Rules “ This says aaaaalllloooootttt. Plus I would expect that there were warnings of what might happen if this type of behavior continued !! I have had to terminate several people in my working years. I can assure you that when the termination day arrived..... everyone new it was coming! “No Surprises”

Jazmine looks to be more of a speed guard. She is a little more under control, as an incoming into UT, than Annie was at the same point. per what I've seen but she replaces what we lost, immediately.

Coach Jumper, in another thread you mentioned a 5 in 5 out rotation early in the season and I like that idea, but I do not see Holly doing that. Would be a good way to see who is ready to play and see combinations that gel.

A dismissal could be for numerous reasons like missing class multiple times, drug test, curfew violations multiple times. I wouldn't speculate on why she was dismissed but I do believe it was for good cause and she was given numerous chances to correct the violations and failed to do so. I am sure she was given every opportunity to succeed.

Holly tends to leave players in way past the minutes they should play without a rest. I think this is why Nared was so great at the beginning of the season and faded in the last 10 to 12 games. When you have players of sufficient talent you should try to control the game minutes of your top five to no more than 30. A three or four minute rest two or three times during a game only increases performance JMO. Look at Barnes 4 or 5 minutes of all out play and your on the bench for a rest. I have seen very few times when he let any player go beyond 7 minutes of continuous play during a game.

5 in 5 hours is absolutely the best way to find out what your team is made of. Also starting multiple lineups in the game and coming up with multiple six men when you need them. All the experimentation should be done in the initial runs while you got the cake schedule so that when it's SEC time you will have had your season and your rotation figure it

Sorry, the above texted on the spot.

The only true way to see what you got is to look at it. And 5 in 5 out does this. Especially if you mix lineups. This can be done in blowouts and should be done, early on.

The thing it accomplishes, is that it gives the back of the bench opportunity to take spots by giving them even, and ample, playing time on the floor.

But it has to be done early.

I'll take a 22-8 season every year, as long as the 8 losses come early in the season and we finish the season on a 22 game win streak.
