Anastasia Hayes dismissed.

There were multiple violations. Every violation comes with a warning. There are team, university and NCAA policies in place; it isn't arbitrary. When a player repeatedly violates rules and ignores warnings, that player is going to be suspended and/or dismissed after a certain number of infractions. Some players choose not to be suspended and are dismissed from the program. It's generally a pattern of behavior that leads to dismissal, as it was in both recent cases.

I wish her the best and hope she learns from this experience. I had such high hopes for her. I expect Dawn will be all over this.

Agree, South Carolina has to be the favorite here. The Transfer U of women's basketball.

If Fulmer had to handle it, How does Holly survive this? I know I am going to get bashed for this and I don’t care! I don’t know what’s going on but this is the second time in a 3 year period that someone is being dismissed from her program, somewhere somehow, things are going on and they shouldn’t be!

Holly was involved in the decision, but there wasn’t really any choice here.

Just for the record, going forward player dismissals in all sports will be formally handed down by the Athletics Director. That’s how many schools are now handling it in an era where athletes and their families are using the threat of legal action to extort coaches into keeping players on rosters that shouldn’t be there.

Before a dismissal is final, a meeting with the head coach, the sport administrator, and the head coach will take place. Parents or guardians will be invited/encouraged to attend to get the full picture of the situation and evidence that caused the action.

As for other speculation in this thread about releases and her getting herself kicked off because she wouldn’t get a release if she left, remember that the NCAA passed a rule this year that prevents coaches from blocking players from transferring to specific schools. Players still have to sit out a year, but the concept of the “release” is basically done.

It doesn't appear the university even wanted to release this at all today, but their hand was forced by Wallace...

They had planned to release it at noon, but went ahead after Wallace went with it. Wallace’s source was the Hayes family, they have mutual friends in the midstate and went to him when the people they contacted at the KNS, WBIR-TV and WNML radio didn’t get it out fast enough. The family spent the car ride back Thursday evening trying to get anybody to put it out there.

Really sad to see so many on here trash Hayes and her family right after she’s dismissed from the team. We don’t know the details, but this doesn’t appear to be a Te’a Cooper situation where there was a physical altercation or major chemistry issue. Nor do we do not have any reason to believe that Hayes is a bad person or a bad teammate. I thought she played quite hard last year and was a joy to watch through an up and down freshman campaign. I hope people can give a 19 year old the benefit of the doubt and say “good luck”, move on, and focus on the upcoming year.

Seriously? A good teammate doesn't get herself thrown off the team for "multiple" violations. And the family has earned their reputation with a long pattern of divisive comments and behavior. They did the Lady Vol program a favor taking the sisters out of play, since Holly is evidently too stupid to see the red flags with some of these players she's bringing in from a mile away...

Thanks, was waiting for the university's spin on how the events transpired...

Hayes had a lot of holes in her game, but she was fast...could get to the line at will. Tennessee will now have a pair of 6 footers playing PG, with Massengill basically a lesser version of Westbrook. They will miss that change up that Annie provided.....

I hope some imagination creeps into this year's staff. Evina at the hi-post as a point-forward, with her passing and ability to use different moves.. When you got a player like that than can see the floor and pass through straw, use her as that!..We're talking Karl Malone here. Don't waste her at the point. She will get her bring downs....But, on the sets,, I'd run a hi-post and watch the duck-shoot.

Massengill can do what Annie did and is 5" taller... hopefully she can finish instead of hitting the brakes and crouching, Annie was prone to attack with no alternate plan. If you are going to the rack without a 2nd planned option, or a teammate who reads your attack and cuts with you, or something in this neighborhood,,,YOU have to finish.

Contact is going to happen, might as well be the one giving it!

Ain't about to lose sleep over anyone trying to play games like that. It's my general impression that folks shopping around in such a manner have an agenda that doesn't always mesh with that whole "being part of the team" thing. Doesn't have anything to do with the player's abilities or talents, just ... running a program like Tennessee's is already hefty enough a challenge as it is.

Question about players that have been dismissed. Do most coaches try and stay away from recruiting those players after they leave the program from which they were dismissed? I can see going after players like the girl from UCONN that went to MS - not dismissed for violations.

What am I missing? Why would a family think it would be a good thing that they announce to the world that their daughter had been dismissed from a team for multiple rules violations? It just makes her look bad, and while Dawn's Home for Wayward Girls with Behavior Problems may be calling, a lot of other coaches won't.

Depends on why the player was dismissed. Hayes should have no problem finding a new team if the reason for the dismissal was marijuana. Helicopter parents might limit options though.

Is that what it was...marijuana? If that's the case, I twould think the NCAA would ban her and it wouldn't be at the discretion of receiving schools to take a chance on her.

Stop using logic and accept the "truth" you are told. The university completely mismanaging this release is NOT in the realm of possibility...

To me Hayes was not overly impressive.....

Her lack of height will always be a problem for her on the basketball court....

Hayes, it was fun watchin you play this year. You were upgrade at the guard position last year and was nice punch off the bench.

For a freshman, I was impress. I thought you would be apart of the new start of us having solid guards, who provide solid guard play.

Goodluck young lady! Play On!

Her speed and jumping ability made up for a lack of height I think if she was 5’8”/5’9” with her speed she could be deadly. I think maturity in seeing the game slow down will make her a pg with potential like moriah Jefferson from UConn she couldn’t shoot at first either but honed her craft and made defenses pay. I can’t think of a UT pg that reminded me of Hayes or I would have went with that comparison.

I just like the fact she was in attack mode, and went to the free throw line a lot. Hayes is a solid player.

She played much bigger than her height.

Her athletic ability (she was an Allstate track athlete with very little training) allowed her to be a difference maker. I think jaz Massengill has size and she has always played on teams with fast guards and a true set up play maker. She may not be that change of pace guard but I think (well I hope) she will be able to average the same number of assists per game with lower turnovers by the end of the year. I don’t think she will get to the free throw line as much but I also think she will see a play ahead to reduce risks in turnovers. Alexis hornbuckle was never a great pg but when u moved her off the pg position she was a play maker. I think the same thing about Westbrook. Have her and Jaz on the floor and have what they call hockey assists. The assist that lead to the assist that another player scores on.
