And the search for dirt on Sarah Palin begins

Guy last night asked this question of a Republican Congresswoman and a Republican pollster:

"If Chelsea Clinton had gotten pregnant as a teenager while Bill was in the WH, how would the Republicans have reacted to that?"

Their silence was deafening.

This very question shows where the Dems are going. Vetting is irrelevant in this case since Bill was already POTUS. This is a case of a Dem whose attacking Palin over her daughter's pregnancy defending those attacks by saying the other side would do the same thing.

It is not about vetting, it is about attacking Palin's credibility. Odd how Kerry was on the Sunday talk shows complaining about "fear and smear". This is another example of how Dems use the same tactics.

again, your arguments are weak. This isn't something created by the right. John McCain knew about Bristol. What wasn't foreseen was Kos's idiocy regarding Trig actually being Bristol's, or Alan Colmes speculating that Sarah caused Trig's Down's Syndrome by not immediately going to a hospital when her water broke. I'm sure McCain-Palin would have preferred to release the news of Bristol's pregnancy at a more opportune time, but they both probably felt that after the attacks by the Kossacks, the Democrat Underground, Alan Colmes, etc. they had no choice but to nip the speculation in the bud before it became a full blown Alex Jones' conspiracy.

The attacks on Palin began immediately after her announcement as nominee.

You guys keep changing the issue.

The issue is not whether the daughter's pregnancy reflects poorly on Palin as a parent. First, it doesn't. Second, if it did it wouldn't mnatter anyway.

The issue is not whether she can lead the country with a teenage daughter who has a child. she can. Its irrelevant.

The issue is that she was chosen as the VP nominee when either she did not tell the McCain people about it and just hoped it wouldn't come out or that she did tell them and McCain picked her anyway when they had to know it would come out and become the distraction it has become.

If you listen closely, you will find that the only people who are talking about the pregnancy itself as an issue are the Republicans trying to make it sound like that is the criticism from the left (more Hannity straw man tactics).

I have yet to hear a Democrat say that the pregnancy relfects poorly on Palin. What I do hear them saying is that this is good evidence of a disastrously pathetic vetting process. Add this to the whole passport issue, the fact that she is/was a member of a political movement that touts secession of the state from the union, the investigation into her alleged use of the office to retaliate against someone over a family matter, and the issue has become how in the heck she got picked!

I heard last night that McCain had never met her and talked to her just three times on the phone before selecting her. Is that true? Is that not just flat out strange to you?

1.) It was one of the first things brought up, McCain stated it was not an issue.

2.) Must not get out much...... it is every where!

3.) What you heard is not true.... go figure.....

:hi:

You haven't been paying attention because I've heard several Dem commentators make exactly points 1 and 2.

As for point 3, you believe that McCain didn't know. It is pure speculation on your part. Given you frequently list his "anger" as an issue you have with him don't you think he'd have blown his stack if he wasn't told this?

I'm guessing they knew, knew it would come out and felt it wasn't a disqualifier.

Dem commentators are already going down the road on how this reflects on Palin as a mother and the how can she be a mother and be VP road. I've seen it on CNN, I've seen it on Fox, I've seen it on ABC. It is all over the liberal blogosphere.

I am positive McCain is apoplectic right now. Probably had to sedate him. Someone (or ones) are surely going to lose their positions in the campaign for this.

Can you cite these "several" Dems you are talking about and what they are saying? I find that discouraging. You say they are claiming that the pregnancy is a reflection on her and not the vetting process so can you maybe throw me a link or something?

How many do you want??????

Will it change your mind?

Have you watched CNN? I saw Dem strategists and talk show hosts pounding on the fit as a mother issue relentlessly.

An earlier link I put up was to Huffington Post. MG mentioned Colmes blog. Andrew Sullivan blogged quite a bit about the "who is Trig's real mother" story.

In short, the Dems have the knives out to take down Palin. I'm really not a big supporter of hers based on some of her positions but these attacks are pretty tasteless IMHO.

didn't obama throw a fit about the repub's attacking michelle obama for her comment, but yet i don't see the liberals easing up on this issue, and this is w/ kids, not the spouse. double standards. i like palin to be honest w/ you, and hope she stays on

I saw people saying that given her disruption of things and the legit questions about the investigation into her and the passport issue that the whole thing calls into question the judgment of McCain in picking her. Have not seen anyone say she can't be vice president because she has a pregnant daughter. Not one.

Which comment?

I'm no fan of MO's.

But to be fair, and this goes for both candidates, Obama can get upset all day long and it won't stop other liberals from bringing up these issues. If McCain condems a message such as Obama is a Muslim, that message is still getting delivered too. On the other hand I can't prove weather or not these guys secretly like it or not. I wish the Palin stuff and the Obama stuff that is either untrue or irrelevant would stop but we all know better than to believe that will happen.

Mind boggling.... if she is such a horrible pick and a threat to derail the McCain election ticket..... then why attack her???????????

Praise her and keep her on the ticket........

It just came to light that the opposition research that was released to the press included her Social Security number, addresses and phone number. Can anybody ever remember this kind of hostility toward a VP candidate?

The daughter pregnancy is a non-issue IMO. As long as she doesn't lie about it or go around making family values speeches.

Perhaps they've moved off the issue because it was back-firing. I saw several Dem strategists specifically question her parenting skills and question why she would put her daugther through this by accpeting the nomination.

Why does it affect her ability to espouse an opinion on family values? That's like saying that if you've ever been in a car accident, you can't tell people they should wear a seatbelt.

Yeah I haven't followed this logic although the Dems are hammering on it. She advocated abstinence, a mistake was made and they are taking responsibility for it with a loving attitude - sounds like family values to me.

Now the new angle is that the McCain campaign's vetting process wasn't thorough enough. This is comical.

yet Obama continues to pat himself on the back for his judgement. This is a man friendly with a domestic terrorist, sat, for 20 years, in the pews of a church run by a marxist idealogue, and doesn't understand the Laffer curve.

It probably wasn't but this has morphed into:

how would he pick Secretary of State?

he's reckless

an MSNBC commentator said the choice of VP is the most un-democratic thing we do in America - and McCain is foisting this unqualified pick on America.

This is the new line of attack - he's reckless. His judgement is poor.
