In the last 2 days I have watched 2 instances where people were just rude and *****y to service industry workers because they could be. Yesterday I was at a casino here in LV and as I was walking past the hotel check in (around 3:15pm, basically check in time) and this lady was losing her mind because there was a line, probably would have been a 20 minute wait. She was yelling so everyone could hear her and demanding the hotel give her a free nights stay because she was having to wait and it was taking time away from her vacation. She was rude to the desk clerk and a manager, it was ridiculous.

Then today I stopped in Mickey D's and woman wanted a cup for water, they said it was .25 for a small plastic water cup. They lady lost her sh$$ on the teenager behind the counter because she wanted a large cup. Finally the manager came over and gave her the bigger cup, then the woman turned to her friend and said loudly "see you ***** loud enough they'll give you what you want". I was like WTF??? Luckily the manager heard this and cancelled the woman's order and gave her money back to her and said he business was no longer wanted here.

I wonder do these people have jobs and so they always act this way??? It's embarrassing

They're as bad as people filing lawsuits for damages in 2 mph fender benders.

I go out of my way to not be an ******* to service workers, even when I have reason to. They're just folks trying to make a living, no need to be a pompous jerk because you feel above them in your life station.

Agreed. They put up with way too much crap from the general public just because people have miserable lives and take it out on people that they don't have to be nice to.

...and most of them don't get that nothing is really free.

But that's the thing GA....our government HAS made way too much totally free to way too many people. Its you and I that get to pay for it, which they somehow think they DESERVE.

Rant over.....thanks for listening......have a great day!

I worked with this guy several years ago that seemed like an okay person. He wasn't a jerk to his co-workers, was good with customers, etc. Then one day he started bragging about how he and his girlfriend has cooked up this new scheme between them where they would never pay for a meal at a restaurant. They would create some reason to complain, and they wouldn't let up, and would continue to escalate their anger until the waiter/manager/owner gave in and comped their meals. He said that they had successfully done it more than 10 times.

I was stunned. I said "You do realize that's stealing, right?"

Him: No, it's not stealing. They're choosing to give us the free meal.

Me: So, if you pull a gun on someone, you aren't really stealing because he's choosing to give you his money?

Him: That's not the same thing. If he doesn't hand over his money, there will be bad consequences.

Me: And having two irate douchebags yelling in your establishment in front of your other customers isn't a bad consequence?

Him: You just don't get it.

I lost all respect for the guy after that. I spoke to him only has the job required. Otherwise, I completely avoided him. I cannot stand people like that.

My dad told me about a guy he used to work with who would buy a TV or something similar, take the remote out, return it, say it didn't have the remote, then go back in a couple days later and buy it on open box discount. He said the guy always acted like the most Christian person in every room, and that he made sure you felt like he was more Christian than you.

I hope somewhere they run up the bill and the place wont comp it - would love to see the idiots faces not being able to pay for the dinner

We knew a girl the same way. She would brag how her and her husband do this. My wife went to eat lunch with her one day and she done it. Embarrassed my wife so much she went back in and apologized and tried to pay for that girls meal.

2 days ago I was at a gas station on 3rd St and Holtzclaw (Chattanooga) waiting in line to pay for my food when this guy was going off because he didn't feel like waiting for the cashier ti finish getting the coffee machines started with fresh coffee. Cursing, yelling and making a scene talking about he spends his hard earned money and wants fast service. Whatever...

Thats why I don't go in the hood if I can avoid it.

If they try to do it at a mom n pop place, they'd be more likely to not comp it. A corporate place manager will bow down to it. Negative press will cost them their job. Cost less to give in. Shame.

I got my Sign and Sail card balance comped because I didn't ***** and raise hell. They didn't have a wet paint sign up and me and this other guy got paint all over our backs. He lost his **** and went nuts. I asked for something to clean it off and thanked them for cleaning my back. I don't know what they gave the other guy but I was happy.

I see it a lot here, especially people wanting stuff comped.
Used to work with a guy who was so freaking nice but every time we went to lunch, like a sit down place, no matter how much his meal was he tipped a dollar. The kicker was he was very demanding and picky about everything. So one day we went to a place and our server came up to greet us and I immediately said he won't tip you and us about to be a pain in your $$$. She laughed and he was so mad at me, finally he was like WTF??? And I said don't you hate it when you're busting your butt for a customer and he or she says thanks but no thanks... He said yes, then I said that's how these people feel when dealing with cheap a$$es like you. They live off tips. He never went to lunch with me again

I agree. I'd add that in most cases, whoever you are dealing with directly in most situations are not the sole cause or remotely the root cause for your displeasure.

Most of the people I have seen act like a jackass to service people aren't really that much higher on the totem pole of life.

As someone who works in the service industry it's good to hear there are people out there that understand how to treat us with a little respect.

As for the totem pole of life comments, sometimes the thing that you love doing and take great pride in may not pay a six figure salary. They may be getting more out of life than you might guess. So don't judge someone on the sole fact that they may make less than you.

If you look at the lives of those people you will find that they always pay for their actions one way or another.

I was told by a self made rich man once "there are takers and givers in life. Givers always have a much better life. Which one are you going to be." From that point on I have tried to be a giver and I've been much happier and more successful.

I remember one time when the owner of a company wanted some of us to go to a Nationwide tour event with him in Myrtle and then to the Long Drive event in Nevada (to help and enjoyment). Everyone was fighting over going so I told him I would stay and handle the business at the shop. I didn't want to fight with everyone or cause an issue. When he came back he made me the manager and gave me a raise.

All he said was that what he seen while with them was enough to know that none of them should manage a company. I was the least qualified and didn't ask for the position. From that point on he always took me on his trips.

I always did what was needed on the trips even if he wanted me to go out at night with them. Respect was built from being responsible instead of taking all that was offered. I was able to eventually start me own business from the knowledge and friendships in the industry that I built.

If I would have choosen to only do what was being offered then my life could be much different and I like to think worse.
