Annoying people who always want stuff for free

As someone who works in the service industry it's good to hear there are people out there that understand how to treat us with a little respect.

As for the totem pole of life comments, sometimes the thing that you love doing and take great pride in may not pay a six figure salary. They may be getting more out of life than you might guess. So don't judge someone on the sole fact that they may make less than you.
Didn't mean it as an insult at all and certainly not judging anyone.

As someone who deals with the public on a day to day basis its amazing how many people think they can get what they want by being rude and mean. I will tell you I would much rather help someone out that is being nice and understanding than someone being rude.

I've had to help my wife not be one of those people. She never had a service job and has had to learn some things.

I've also learned if you have a place you go regularly, and you tip well and are cool to the staff...9 times out of 10 they will take care of you better than anything you would get by pitching a fit. I don't think I've paid for my appetizers, first couple beers, or dessert at the restaurant closest to my house in years.

It's amazing how quickly servers who have waited on you previously will tell the current server how you were as a guest and how you tip. If you tip very well, the server who waited on you previously will try and get you in their section and if they can't, they'll explain that you're a good guest and are worth extra effort

Anyone trashy enough to contaminate food they're serving deserves every bit of hate thrown their way

you should have seen what was done to some food years ago,if they were really rude, which took a lot, things would happen :)

Most of the people I have seen act like a jackass to service people aren't really that much higher on the totem pole of life.

I would hate to do it for a living but I respect them for having a job. So many people will sit at home and collect welfare

The point is don't start the hate if you don't want the hate back in your mouth.

If you discover someone has been jacking with your food, then by all means, cloud up and rain all over them.....and don't let them take away the evidence.

As my dear ol' Daddy once said, "Be nice, always be nice. It doesn't make them any harder to kill if the need should arise."

I had to laugh at this as I've had to do the same thing.

My wife and I were once traveling on vacation and we left Knoxville really early and had a few hour layover in Atlanta. We stopped at a TGIF in the Atlanta airport to get some breakfast and she ordered something cooked a specific way.

When it came out under cooked she pitched a fit and sent it back. I told her that they're going to spit on it and send it back. She thought twice when they brought it back and asked for a cup of Yogurt with the lid attached.

I never piss off anyone serving me my food and always tip well, even if the service sucks. You never know if they will remember you.

Just watched a woman go ape **** on a Southwest employee because her flight was canceled. I'm not an airline expert but I doubt that little ticket counter girl made the call to cancel her flight.

"$hit happens" isn't a valid enough excuse for some people, although it's the only one they should need in cases like this.

Some people still think that traveling on an airline is elite and they are somehow special.

Speaking of people wanting stuff for free, why do people go ape **** for crappy free handouts like sporting event t-shirt cannons. The material is always garbage and the shirt will have a huge Taco Bell logo on it, yet people are literally willing to plummet ass over tea kettle to get their hands on one. dafug?!

Never fails, I go to about 20 minor league hockey games a year and once a night at a minimum a kid is stampeded by a 45 year old man for a Hartford Wolfpack/Nutmeg Federal Credit Union t shirt.

As an employee in a financial institution, I deal with Jack wagons everyday. I have stories you wouldn't believe. I've considered starting a thread as sort of a blog for everyone's entertainment.

I should get the same level of service whether I tip well or not.....it's the servers job. I tip at least 18% everywhere I eat, and 22% for exceptional.

I love how tipping etiquette went from just 10% years ago. To a 10,15,20% depending on service. And now it's like you should give 20% minimum no matter what.

out here the servers and bartenders are in a union, they make over $10 an hour plus tips. Someone I know who works at a chain on the strip makes an easy 6 figures

Theoretically, a server should give everyone the same great treatment. If a server is told by another server that the guest they just got was a good tipper the last time, the current server will undoubtedly focus on their steps of service for that customer to make sure things go well.

I'd guess it's in part because pay across the board rises while server pay remains the same $2.13 (if you're in a state that isn't too expensive for cost of living).

I almost always tip large if I can, but that's because I've been in the service industry for a decade. I can generally tell if something is the fault of the server or the kitchen and if the server seems to care about an issue if it were to arise.

I'd say a legit tip for service that doesn't impede your ability to enjoy a meal is 18%.

I've looked into the service workers unions and they basically only cover employees of resorts and casinos. I'd estimate that being in Vegas and the closeness to those casinos helped any chain employees unionize. Here in the southeast you would get fired if you attempted unionization.

As for the spitting in food myth, I'm sure it's happened, but in the over fifteen years working in kitchens I have never once seen food tampered with. Most of the people I have worked with have taken great pride in what goes out. A lot of times something will get sent back for things like the customer doesn't understand the correct temperatures for steaks, I can't tell you how many times I've had an order like "medium well no pink", or it's in the middle of a rush and something like a burger went out with onions when the ticket said no onions. Sometimes when we are trying to cook for 50 to 100 people that all came in within a ten minute span and get everyone's food out within another ten to fifteen minutes things may get overlooked. We fix our mistakes and move on, there's not any vengeance involved. Like I said, most of us take pride in our work. The ones who don't are usually kids that their parents made get a job and don't last more than a few months. I cook everything like my mother is going to be eating it and I want it to be perfect. We want our customers to be happy and coming back, job security.
