Another 2014 offer - Kyle Kuzma

Not sold on Kuzma's athleticism at this point, but he's solid off the bounce. Good touch around the rim, what looks like a fairly solid form on his jumper. A project at the 3 spot, I don't see enough physicality for him to play the 4.

Don't see him as a high-major prospect yet.

So I'm guessing you weren't thrilled about Pastner recently offering him, or the fact that Memphis is currently pursuing him?

Not at all. Memphis' cup usually overfloweth with wings, I don't see where Kuzma fits in. Unless we just need warm bodies for practice, I'd prefer if we held a schollie for the loaded 2015 class. Kuzma has a year to change minds though, I'll give him that.

Well the recent flood of offers from high major programs seems to show coaches, including your own, seeing something completely different in him. According to Brooks and Grant Milner Memphis is really pushing pretty hard for Kuzma.

I agree with this. BTO, just curious do you ever make up your own opinion on a guy or just take it for what the coaches say about a prospect? You always seem to get argumentative when someone has something negative to say about a TN recruit.

I'm sure the coaches know what they're doing, but I don't see it.

I don't know how hard Memphis is pushing for him, and Milner calls the kid a diamond in the rough. I'm just not sold on using a scholarship on him.

Was just curious which video, because much like London the offers weren't there say 6 months ago. The recent offers are because of a monster July, where he apparently blew up and showed alot of progression. So videos from before July I view with the thought that this was the recruit that didn't have the major offers, not the post July recruit.

Me get arguementative? Weren't you the one who just flipped out about Reese? Or almost had a coronary when I criticized Devoe?

I form my own opinions, but I admit based largely on what scouts I trust say, and how coaches view said prospect. There's a reason those guys are getting paid professionally to coach or scout, and you or I are on a free message board with non basketball related jobs.

I also base alot of my opinion on what other players say about that said recruit, as they all usually know each other.

In the case of Kuzma, you've got a collection of head coaches that view him as a high level prospect. I'm talking national championship winning coaching, coaches who all they've known is basketball their whole life, and coaches who have evaluated more basketball players than any one of us has talked about on a message board. I tend to trust and believe their opinion over the "message board" coaches most of the time, jmo.

Also calls him the most underrated recruit in 2014 iirc

I haven't seen him play in July which is where all the offers came from. I agree that his video from last year wasn't all that impressive, but that's also why he likely had very few offers at that point.

I have a hard time doubting as many respected head coaches that have seen him and offered him, but that's just me.

Gotcha. I saw where he unofficially visited Mich St. a couple of weeks ago, but didn't see an offer from them on 247 or rivals or ESPN. Do you know if they have offered also?

And at the risk of sounding argumentative :) who are the championship coaches you speak of besides 'the Izzone" interested in Kuzma?

I don't believe Michigan State has offered, but I'm not sure either way on that one.

As for championship winning coach, my dumba$$ was thinking Tubby was still at Minnesota, so that's my bad.

It's just funny how you always use different thread arguments when it's irrelevant to this conversation. Please show me where I had a coronary over Reese or "flipped" out over Devoe. You were the one saying Reese basically had zero potential for this team, and that Devoe was in fact not a top 150 player (when I could tell he had that caliber). You seriously need to let go of past debates, which is why you seem to always get into an argument with MemphisCanes, because you can't let something go.

You can't always say a coach/scout is correct, there's tons of times where they give a prospect a 3*/4*/5* and they don't do squat in college (or pro). It's sad how dependent people have gotten over the whole recruiting system, (not you, but people in general). From my time watching basketball, I feel like you know whose good enough to play D1 ball and who isn't. I brought up a thread about Galen Campbell because I was curious to know why he didn't transition from high school to college, he averaged 25ppg in HS but only received a walk-on from Tenn., I also said he should receive playing time if we lack a point guard. As for Reese, he isn't as bad as you think.

That's your opinion, and one we can revisit in about 6 months along with the topic of Q's minutes going up, and Hubbs averaging less than 13mpg.
And I encourage it! I always like to see how well I did with a player's potential and how it turns out towards the end of the year.

I'm guessing 0-3 on this one...but who knows, maybe Hubbs snaps his leg a la Kevin Ware...that's the only thing that will keep Hubbs from getting more than 8-13mpg.

Yeah, I hope I'm wrong about Hubbs; probably won't be a good sign if he is only getting 10mpg. Q/Reese will have their time.

kuzma collecting more offers
the last thing i did in july was watch kyle kuzma, a blossoming forward, one last time in vegas. The kid grew out of his guard position but kept elements of the guard game, making him an attractive small forward recruit as a scorer, shooter and passer.

Oklahoma state and iowa state recently made overtures. Tennessee is also in pursuit utah scored a sept. 13 visit. Kuzma said he’s working on trips to tennessee, iowa state and oklahoma state for september through early october.

That's pretty cool, so was he more of a guard his junior year? Are there any recent videos of Kuzma in action because his junior videos are weak.

Much like London he grew up as a guard...it wasn't until the last year or so he hit a growth spurt and grew to 6'8"+

As for film, I haven't seem any from this July. He graduated from high school last year, but didn't have many offers at all, which jives with his film being "weak". He decided to attend a prep school for a year in hopes that his game would catch up to his new body type, and that seems to have paid off. The reviews from scouts and coaches through the July evaluation period were all very high, and he has been mentioned as one of the most underrated recruits in 2014...he's a guys who's stock I would say is still on the rise.
