Another bad apple (George Floyd case)

Feels like there are a lot of these people in this thread

What those cops did to George Floyd is despicable. Most if not all have on this board have said that at least once. Most of these rioters are not people outraged over his murder, though. The people setting businesses on fire and stealing flat screens are dishonoring his memory by using his death as an excuse to act like fools.

I’m 100% okay with limiting their workload (less traffic enforcement, less drug enforcement, no roadblocks, etc).

I also think there’s an element of attracting insane people (similar to politics) because of the power the position holds. Idk if there’s a way to fix that.

Police would get more respectful if they spent more time on the things we respect (enforcing/investigating rape, murder, theft) and less time harassing/Karen-ing (a lot of the things I already mentioned) they would gain more respect.

Edit: I just wanted to add a genuine thanks for your opinion on how to fix the issues. We don’t hear enough people try to address it.

There’s no money in rapes, murders, and thefts that’s why they harass and tax citizens for broken taillights and blown tag lights.

It's protesters. So you think 100% of the protesters are committing crimes. Where did you get confirmation for this idea? Have you spoken to each one to verify your assumption?

Did they speak to every single police officer before deciding to terrorize the city?

Sad as it may be, some rioters will likely have to perish before the day is over given the extreme unlikelihood of this situation peacefully dissipating. Whether that number is a few or a few dozen is squarely in the rioters’ court.

Massachusetts Pastor And Rapper Ice Cube Tweet Photo Misidentifying ‘Cop’ Wearing ‘Make Whites Great Again’ Hat

On Wednesday, Bishop Talbert Swan, senior pastor of the Spring of Hope Church of God in Christ in Springfield, Massachusetts, sent out a tweet about the Minneapolis police officer who is alleged to have choked an unarmed African American man, George Floyd, on Monday after pinning him to the ground with his knee.

The tweet contained a side-by-side featuring two photos – a still image from the bystander video of the incident in question, and another of a man allegedly wearing a “Make Whites Great Again” hat.

The tweet reads: “Here is Derek Chauvin, the racist cop who kept his knee on #GeorgeFloyd’s neck, cut off his air passage and murdered him, wearing a ‘Make Whites Great Again’ hat, a clear sign that this piece of excrement should’ve been taken off the streets a long time ago. #JusticeFor Floyd.”

Here’s the issue – as many have now pointed out on social media, the man in the second photo isn’t Derek Chauvin.
Journalist Andy Ngo tweeted: “How many people have you wrongly identified to your audience of tens of thousands? @Twitter needs to fact check verified users who spread disinformation.”

Ngo’s Tweet elicited a response from Swan, who wrote in two tweets:

Pollster and political consultant Frank Luntz also replied to Swan’s tweet, identifying the man in the other photo as Jonathan Lee Riches: “That’s not the same guy. Don’t complain about Trump spreading lies if you’re going to do the same thing.”
HuffPost’s Luke O’Brien further detailed Riches’ identity and his alleged history of trolling in a series of tweets:

The misidentification has continued, with rapper and actor Ice Cube also tweeting out the side-by-side image:

Fact-checking website Snopes has even jumped into the fray, labeling the photo as “miscaptioned.”
Despite the calls to delete the tweets, neither Swan nor Ice Cube have pulled them down as of publication.

And this is why Twitter should get out of the fact checking business. There’s literally no way to check everything and most things posted are opinions anyway. This is potentially dangerous disinformation though as one of the followers who sees this photo may mistake a MAGA hat for this same thing and kill or injure someone, not to mention the guy who was misidentified could be hurt or killed. This is where the EO comes into play. Since Twitter has decided to fact check some and not others and they haven’t removed this potentially dangerous disinformation then they no longer have immunity under 230 and thus can be brought into a lawsuit.

If you were with a group of people who vandalized, stole from and then burned down a store and you had knowledge of the acts and continued to participate in that you continued to hang around them during the act and after makes you an accessory to those crimes under the law does it not?

I was thinking the same regarding the accessory charges.

That's understanding, just trying to make the point that saying they aren't participating in criminal acts is splitting hairs. There's good people out there, there are also vile people in those crowds.

The one thing that remains true is the victim is still dead and his legacy will forever be tied to violence and destruction. He deserved better in life, and in death.

The media is goig to media. You cannot change that.

Here is what you need to look at. The protesters in Michigan, although armed and in the halls of the statehouse, were indeed well behaved and civil. What did that get them? The governor actually doubled down instead of taking her foot off their necks. Now that should be concerning. because if govt does't fear armed protesters in the statehouse, then protesting peaceably has no effect either.

May as well just burn it all down and let the chips fall where they may.
Do you think the police would’ve just stepped aside and let it happen like in MN? I doubt it.

Can we come to the realization that the moral fabric of this country is corrupted? We have a significant number of bad apples in all walks of life.
Well yeah. Human nature exists. Which is why I don’t understand why you only focus on police

I think the last time I got pulled over it was for a blown tag light. It was around midnight and I had no idea it was out. The dude walked up and told me the issue and asked to see my license and proof of insurance. I complied and after he checked me out he told me to fix it and sent me on my way. He was probably just looking for a reason to pull somebody over but I wasn’t a d*** or belligerent, my stuff was in order, I didn’t have an open container or smell like alcohol or weed.

Why are all LEOs being labeled as bad apples by social media and the MSM? If that's the case, then the same applies to those rioting.

I have not heard anyone say all LEOs are bad apples. I have seen all protesters called criminals on VN

Try to make that arrest stick.
