I am disappointed in the Mayor, whom I generally agree with on policing issues. I was watching Ch. 4 and listening to a police scanner app during most of it. After the scheduled event, several hundred people made their way to a police precinct near Music City Center, where they were met with a large show of force. I think the people who really wanted to do violence and mayhem figured out that they were not getting into the precinct so a little less than half of them splintered off and moved quickly to the courthouse. On the scanner, I could hear calls reporting damage and asking for backup along their route. it was obvious where they were headed. When the initial wave of the crowd got the courthouse, including the "agitators", there were plenty enough police to take them out right then and there. The whole thing could have been ended before it started. Without explanation, the officers moved off the courthouse steps, off of the public green, and onto Union Street. I know damn well that MNPD did not abandon the courthouse without being ordered to do so. There is only one person in this town who can make that sort of order. Cooper is still a far sight better than the realistic alternatives IMO, but he really disappointed me last night. The criminals infiltrated the peaceful protest. You can almost predict that it will happen. You can sense it during the peaceful protest. Then once the 3pm-5pm timeframe is over the lingering crowd and continued marching after the main protest provides advance notice.
Nashville acted swiftly though it still didn't stop some destruction. I wanted more arrests to let these hoodlums know law enforcement was serious.

What we need is some old school Kent State justice.I am disappointed in the Mayor, whom I generally agree with on policing issues. Yes. I agreed with a lot of what Cooper said and did with regard to the citizen review board. And he is obviously fiscally conservative. I just don't understand what I saw. After the courthouse windows were busted and just before the fire started, Chan. 4 showed some pans of the line of officers on Union. All the cops were typing on their phones, no doubt trying to explain to friends and family why they were not doing anything to stop it.I could not have stated this better. Cooper is a democrat but he is more like Bredesen than Briley. With that said, as a citizen we expect no damage whatever it takes. This is not a state overrun with all leftists. It's just more around here because they seem to gravitate to Nashville.
There was a point where nothing on those lines was necessary. The police could have just moved in and arrested the whole crowd. They had the numbers and the gear. I am familiar with trained protesting and I understand that some of the people involved in the worst of the activity will make the police use force to subdue and arrest them, but that is their choice. What we need is some old school Kent State justice.

Fiscally conservative? No way, he’s a leftist socialist just like the rest of themYes. I agreed with a lot of what Cooper said and did with regard to the citizen review board.
