Another Freeze Rumor

I live in Memphis and I married into a big Ole Miss family, so I stay up to date on all the news from Oxford.

Something I heard from a decently connected Ole Miss guy was that Freeze has already been hired by TN. He said they offered him the job when he met with Pruitt in Memphis and he accepted behind closed doors, but they are waiting to make it official. The reason they are waiting is because they expect the SEC/NCAA to put recruiting restrictions on Freeze once he’s officially hired. They are letting him quietly reach out to some recruits he knows personally before the announcement to try and lock up some elite committments.

The evidence he offered was the commitment from Harrison Bailey. He said Bailey and Freeze are very close and have been for a while. Most people were surprised to hear that an elite QB prospect would commit to a school with an OC vacancy, but if you assume he already knew who the OC would be, it doesn’t seem as weird.

** This could very well be BS but it’s an interesting theory if nothing else! I don’t know the guy who told me very well, but I do know he’s at least somewhat connected in Oxford. **

This is why I don’t believe the rumor.

If we had Freeze lined up, we would have dropped the news on Friday afternoon especially after Kareem Hunt gave us national media cover...

If I were Freeze and was offered the OC job, I'd run like the wind in the other direction. Look around the threads and posts at VN. Holy cow, I've never seen such a frothing, over the top fan base. What are some of you people going to do if in a couple of days Pruitt makes the announcement that he's promoting Friend--have another Schiano Sunday? We're hiring an OC, just like Burch Jones did three times. I wouldn't mind it being Freeze, but who ever it is, I'm sure it will be fine. Like they say, it's more about the Jimmys and Joes.
You are right my friend.... I would be really really happy with Freeze, but if they hire someone else who has been an OC I would just be like......go get some jimmys And joes

I was with you up to the point of reaching out to High school recruits quietly, line. That's like riding down to the west side of K town with a $100 bill hanging out the window and expecting hookers to keep quite!

Well, as a fan base, we promise to keep him away from the Mouses Ear, and if finds it necessary to be there for a meeting, we will have a committee assigned to travel with him... that is the best we can do. Now make it rain up in here!

Wow, that place is still open? My roommate in college dated a girl who danced there.

Just remember, a 10 in Mississippi is a 2 in Tennessee :D

I'm a computer scientist, and I'm not seeing the difference. How is 10 different from 2?

I seriously doubt they put restrictions on him. He was dealt his punishment already and has served his "time". Doesn't make sense at all.
Exactly. Served his penalty. Can’t remember a time the NCAA set the penalties, they were completed and the appropriate time passes, and then the NCAA added additional penalties to the original one without some new evidence coming to light.

That would be fine. You can lie to recruits all you want. That isn't illegal.
Yeah, well. It is just a verbal. So lying to a ‘20 recruit would not be a good way to have him trust you and officially sign with you in 12 months.

Can I be assigned to the committee.... that’ll go over better with my wife?

Just so I’m clear, you are saying Pruitt/Freeze are already committing NCAA infractions before he’s even hired knowing that if Freeze is hired, the NCAA will watch his every move? Seems legit
