Anthony Bourdain Found Dead

I love how now suicide is like this glamorous event. My flipboard newsfeed on my Samsung phone is full of great things Bourdain said, did, philosophoes8, etc.

He took a cowardly way out. But in this upside down world he is to be admired.

Death culture.

You mean like declaring something is a selfish act despite not knowing anything about was going on in his brain, how much help he tried to get, or anything involving it? You mean that kind of ignorance. You can't accuse me of ignorance yet do what you just did. At best by your own logic, we're both ignorant.

Of course his daughter would beg him; she's already likely the reason he didn't do this 10 years ago. People throw out stuff like this yet ignore that family and friends probably are the reason they've hung on as long as they have.

What caused his depression? I have no idea. Depression has tons of likely causes. He had admitted drug problems in the past, they could have led to it or he may have been taking drugs to cope with it. After all that has been discovered about depression, there is still many things not known and every case is different, so maybe it would be more beneficial to not put judgement labels on the actions of an irrational mind state.

Cry me a river why don’t you.

Yeah you'll want to limit her substances in the short term then. To be fair ecstacy is the only reason she hooked up with you though.

Definitely not the only reason, in fact smelling the rag I had was the clincher.

He had the same show on several networks.. how is that possible?

That wouldn't be unusual. But the Travel Channel and the Food Network are/were the same owner (Discovery/Scripps Interactive). Talent isn't always exclusive to a single company. Emeril and Rachel Ray weren't exclusive. Martha Stewart was airing in various outlets, Plus older episodes can be owned by the networks and they have rights to air old eps even after the talent has moved to a different network.

Also, AB had multiple shows. No Reservations, A Cook's Tour, and Part's Unknown are separate titles.

Just seemed odd that he basically had the same show on the 3 different networks. I guess it made tons of bucks on all channels.

As a father... yes, said for him... smh.

Smh... that pretty well sums it up for me.

When it was first mentioned on the news my wife texted me at work because I used to watch his show on CNN now and then. My response to her was "Who cares?"

There is no objective reality here, only opinions. Was he clinically depressed? I don't know but if so would that have "explained" it? There will always be those who condone that sort of thing with some fine sentiments, and another camp, myself included, who sees it as a selfish & cowardly act - especially in Bourdain's case given the 11-yr old daughter.

Geezus, this bullsh** again. I'm so sick of the ignorance and arrogance of people like you that proclaim this without having a damn clue what you're talking about.

I especially love the kicker of you judging him then offering prayers...how typical.

If you have anyone in your life that cares or depends on you, and you take your life...it’s pretty common sense that it’s a selfish thing to do. With that being said, who knows what he was dealing with or going through. Everyone in this world has done something selfish at some point. We’re only humans.

Bourdain had his personal demons. He addressed these to a degree in writing and in a video interview. I thought that he had resolved them. The news of his death and the report that it was an apparent suicide is sad.

As an aside, how many of you have accidentally moved the 'R' when pronouncing his name? Pronouncing it "Boudrain" instead of "Bourdain?" Funny how certain things come to mind after absorbing shocking news...

I was in Strasbourg in March 2006 - the coldest March western Europe had experienced in 100 years. I would have been interested in seeing Anthony's episode. Alas, tragedy instead.

I think the point was you’re the one calling everyone in this thread wrong, ignorant, arrogant, high and mighty, etc. because they believe suicide in general is a selfish act.

It’s not an uncommon view. Wives get left behind to raise kids alone, deal with financial issues, etc. Kids grow up with one parent.

Many of these folks who take their own lives
have issues with depression, obviously. It doesn’t mean they’re selfish people and they may even have good intentions, but suicide is often seen as a selfish act in many cases because of the burden it puts on those who are left behind.

:hi:

Just because a lot of people believe something, doesn’t make it true.

Common sense.......because that's never been wrong.
