Anthony Grant - Alabama

I like Grant for several reasons:

1. I never have an objection to ticking Alabama off.
2. His team ranked 8th in the country this year on points allowed. Defense is critical.
3. No team scored more than 83 on them.
4. Shaka Smart is winning with his players he recruited.
5. He seems to recruit well (Brought in several 4*'s to Alabama)

But I haven't seen enough of him to say that I want him as our coach just yet. But I agree, he is very up and coming. But for those that want a younger coach, he is 44 years old.

Grant isn't bad, but I look at him more as a safety than someone we would be actively trying to pursuit.

Since when was 44 that old? If I'm not mistaken (which I am a lot) wasn't Bruce 45 or 46yrs old when he took the job here?

Just to clarify in case people didn't understand my post. From what they seem to be hearing, Grant is the one that is positioning for the job, at this point. Hubbs said nothing about us approaching him first.

I like Anthony Grant. He is young enough to relate to recruits yet has alot of experience. VCU (Smart) is winning with the players that Grant recruited. He was the assistant at Florida when they won NCs and knows the SEC unlike a hire from mid-west or Boston. I think he would be very successful here.

I'm sure Frank doesn't know anything about the SEC. It's not like he coached in it for 3 years or anything. Wait...

I wouldn't mind hiring Grant, but agree that Frank is much, much higher on my board.

I know that Frank is a great option, and has history at UT, but I just honestly don't see him leaving the Celtics (One of basically 4 teams that have a shot at a NBA title) in mid season to take on a rebuilding project, especially when he can probably get another NBA head coaching job in the near future.

It would be great, but I just view Larry Brown as a better chance than Frank.

So much for the "Tennessee basketball isn't an attractive job" crowd.

Even if he is just the coach at Alabama...

that's like saying raising the price on the 'cavemen' box set dvds will hurt sales.

If you want to set the basketball program back to Wade Houston days that you Pearlophiles act like was going to happen when Pearl was fired, then firing Hamilton would be the way to get there.

I really think Frank will be an epic fail. He got fired from his NBA job for starting the season 0-16. I understand recruits wanting to play for a guy with NBA connections but this guy wasn't a good NBA coach. Maybe ya'll can enlighten me as to why he should be hired.

Anybody who can get Vinsanity to try hard is a pretty good coach. Plus, that 0-16 you reference was when Brook Lopez and Chris Douglas-Roberts were his two best players.

Apparently, and I don't know why this is, New Jersey and him just weren't a good fit.

The response to that is of course, "You think?!"

I don't know enough about Frank to say yea or nay, but, I just don't see us getting him.

this hoops hire is not more important than the health of the entire athletic department.

He took the Nets to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 3 of his first 4 seasons. The freaking Nets.

In general, I'd rather have someone who was fired from an NBA job than someone who has no chance in Hell of ever getting one.

I believe he coached 6 and a half years for the Nets. Being a coach that long in the NBA speaks volumes.

According to the guy, who Hubbs later confirmed what he was saying, he is not happy in Tuscaloosa and not happy with his bosses for some reason.

There is so much uneducated white trash in Alabama that it's sad. I know I am biased being a UT fan and all, but there really is something wrong with that entire state.
