Are the spindle assemblys steel or pot metal?

That's why I quit using grasshopper. Their decks are junk. My FIL bought his toro from the dealer. They advised him on the "other" toro units.

The only toro that was garbage was a front drive steel deck, not sure they make it anymore. The physics simply didn't work

Anything I buy, I'll be buying from a dealer from now on. No more chain shopping for mowers.

Smart move. I bought a Husqvarna with a Kawasaki engine from dealer. I have an authorized dealer to service it plus the warranty was included in price vs Lowe's or any other the big box stores that push a warranty for a couple of hundred dollars on top of price. Lowe's sells Husqvarna but they did not carry the model I bought and none they carried had the kawasaki engine.

You still got the John Deere? Last thing I recall was the starter acting up?

Yeah still have it. I love the little JD. It is a good little tractor to do some light things with. The front end loader is nice. Hopefully I will get to play a little on it this summer. I have some bush hogging I need to do just haven't felt like it.

I am feeling better. My cancer has not spread. I had 2 additional spots I had biopsies on that came back negative. Next trip to doc is in June. The mental part has been the hardest part of this to deal with but there is life at the end of the tunnel or so it appears. Thanks for asking.

I'm going to hijack your thread a bit, but I've got a repair question for anyone out there. I have a bad boy M series zero turn. After a few minutes of mowing the mower will have a problem moving, like down to a crawl. I thought it was a hydrostatic issue, the manual says that it's a sealed lifetime system, I can't find a way to check the oil or put more in. Any ideas on what I can try?

I had the Toro Zero Turn from HD, that I bought a couple of years ago, and mowed 1.75 acres that had a slight slope to it...

It was a great mower, sold it with the house when I moved and had a smaller yard.
I think there around $2900 hundred bucks, and I bought one that had been returned, for about $1,600 bucks out the door...It literally looked brand new, and I couldn't pay for t quick enough when I saw it was marked down, as a return.

It had the 14.5 Kawasaki, and was awesome...

I think for what your looking for, you could easily spend less than half of what you have budgeted and be completely happy..

Just remember there's no brakes on a zero turn, so don't go down a slope towards a fence...don't ask how I know

Give it a bath of simple green and power wash the hell out of all the hydro fittings/pumps/valves, then ensure all the service shutoffs are open, sometimes clippings/debris will wedge on them a bit and cause the machine to fail at operating temperature. If not that, a good cleaning will at least help you determine if you're pissing fluid somewhere

I gave this a shot. Cleaned it real well this afternoon, and didn't notice any leaks anywhere. Tried to mow again, it did okay for the first 15 mins the went back to messing up. It seems to do okay on the flat parts of my yard but really struggles on any sort of an incline. Thanks for the help.

There should be a plug on the inside of each transaxle near the top, kind of like the plug on a manual transmission. You can try pulling those and adding some 20-50, pretty much if you can add any it needs it, when it starts coming out of the hole it's full.

If that doesn't work you're probably going to have to bring it in to get looked at if you arent comfortable playing with the hydros yourself.

Check the hydraulic filter. If it's dirty it will act like this.

I had to buy a new mower this year. Got a Honda. One thing I'll say is it's easy to start.

me too. Had a JD for about 7 yrs. Engine went out. Could have had it repaired but chose to just get a new one. Got a cub cadet with Kohler engine. Word from the guys around here that repair mowers is that the Briggs on JDs arent made like they use to and will go out sooner.

Those MTD's do their job for a good price, keep up on your oil and drain it before you put it away for the year.
