Any one else concerned

About the passing game? Were the receivers not getting open or was it the play calling ? I know Keaton was wide open and dropped a sure TD. We won’t be able to run like this in every game so the passing game has got to improve.
Definitely not the play calling. Big plays were dialed up all day. Just have to execute a little better, but it’s game 1.

I'm worried about our Special Teams especially our Punter. What was that????? The announcer was saying he kicks with both feet. If you have two sub 30 yd punts...do me a big favor? Use the foot that kicks 45+ yd punts.

I remember Shane Victorino was a switch hitter...he hit .297 from the left and .196 from the right...no Shane you are a left handed hitter...a broken clock is right 2x a day
I agree with the punter concerns. I couldn't believe he ran to his right, then kicked the ball rugby style, and kicked it out of bounds. Did the same thing again later in the game. Punt the ball in the traditional way, or learn how to kick it to stay in bounds. That will bite us big time against better teams.

LOL BVS is still alive and well. It was game 1. Joe did what he needed to do. They could not stop our run game because they were trying to stop the deep ball. It is hard to stop both. You take what the D is giving. SMH The Punter scares the he77 out of me.

I was concerned about the passing game heading into the season and today surely didn't alieve any of those concerns. I get that our run game was dominant today, but we need to give Milton more downfield reps and wasted that opportunity in the 2nd half. You could sense him tightening up after the drop by Keyton. Today was more reminiscent of last season's Vandy game than the Clemson game. But even against Clemson, Milton struggles for long stretches and had alot of 3 and outs.

I will say though that Virginia supposedly has a pretty decent defense. It may just take one good game to really get him going and build some confidence. He has had all offseason to overthink things and put pressure on himself. Even today, alot of expectations from fans. Next week, I'm trying to get him at least 4 or 5 passing TD next week. Then let it rip in Florida and go from there.

We had 2-3 kickoffs that went out of bounds as well. Automatic ball places at 35 yrd line, these are all mistakes that can't happen. We give these breaks to USC or UF and we will regret the aftermath of games we should win by 10+

There’s gonna be rust in the 1st game no matter what. I rather have that rust against a Power 5 team than a cupcake.

Virginia had a serviceable defense last year. Their offense is still an issue.

Yes. Milton is gonna have to play better if we are to be a serious contender for the East.

Agree 100%. Everyone is so quick to make excuses for Milton. We won’t be able to just run and throw short at FL. He’s gonna have to make plays on the passing game and be more accurate

He only truly missed four throws all game. I think he will be just fine
Edit. You’ve also been crying about his downfield passing game. Guess what man he missed two throws that were above 10 yards. All the others were either dropped or dimes that were just out of bounds

Catching the damn ball is critical.

Milton had one very bad series. One bad drop from Keyton would have padded stats a lot more and put another 7 on the scoreboard. That fumbled punt cost us another score. Virginia was trying to keep everything in front of them so we rushed the ball very successfully. We were inconsistent in the first half stringing good plays consecutively. Once team bring those safeties up it will be up to our offensive line and Joe’s decision making to make teams pay for it.

I liked the fact that we got the RBs in the passing game, which was non-existent last year. Overall, our running game will be better than last year and we can lean on it early in the season. Joe didn’t throw any picks and only had one that was close, which is positive. Our defense is likely better than last year based on this initial performance.
