And a negotiation with Jimmy Sexton sitting on the other side of the table, at that. Still find it odd that Danny White didn’t appear to consider Sexton clients for football HC, which makes it sort of hard to conduct a search that actually has candidates.

Should he not? He may never have this opportunity again in his career. Get paid while you can. Look, when I met my wife, she was 18 and I was 19. She was smoking hot(and still is) but I knew I may never have another shot at a hotty like her(I definitely outkicked my coverage) so I took advantage of the situation, asked her to marry me and 23 years later, the rest is history. The moral of the story, this may be Tony V’s only/best chance at landing the hot chick, so he better put a ring on that finger while he can. I don’t blame him.
With that said, I think the guy is the next great college baseball coach and is going to have plenty of wins, championships and chances to get paid, but again, I can’t blame the guy if he’s trying to get the most that he can.

Interview from 31:32-44:57.

  • Talked about his extension, MLB Draft results, and NIL.
  • Talked about Burns, Spikes, Stephenson, Hunley, Russell, Lipicius, and Walsh.
  • He thinks Spikes will sign with Tampa Bay.
  • Excited about Burns and Stephenson.
  • He says that Russell, Lipicius are looking into free agent deals, but are also considering returning next year. Walsh is too, but probably will return.
  • Coach V thinks there's a great chance that 2 out 3 will return. I like what he said about any of them returning in that it's important to have "a link in the chain" back to this year's team. It reminds me of men's hoops and Fulky's and Pons ties back to the previous teams.
  • He talked about stadium renovations. Talks are ongoing, but they didn't want to hold up the announcement of the extension for recruiting purposes, and easing fan base anxiety / reassuring the fan base.
  • He talked about the role and importance of the fanbase (in the NIL, passion, etc.). He says the passion will motivate the staff even more moving forward.

Not sure, but it may be possible that someone was engaging in pure speculation just to get attention given that the contract was already final and part of a much bigger package of coaching contracts, all of which were announced within hours of this "news." Do you think Mr. Brice still thinks TV is headed to Baton Rogue or some other place? GBO!

Brice was on Basilio yesterday giving the “behind the scenes“ info about the contract and how it went down.
