Any Vols Coming out to California for the Cal Game?

It may be fiction tonight, 5 yrs from now it will be a scary reality. Think about it, if we can get our new gym we can recruit with everyone else. Doesn’t anyone find it amazing we have been able to accomplish so much, with so little? What other programs could get talented recruits to work out in an 80 yr old gym with a leaky roof?

Notre Dame does a good job. They still haven't won anything significant in many years. I'd still take the state of their program over Cal's. I'd be surprised if Cal even makes it to a bowl game 5 years from now. Someone will take Tedford away. The fun will be over. Cal will go from being unable to beat anyone good to being unable to beat anyone.

Simply put, that was cold, very cold. Screw that! If JT leaves I will coach the team, if I have too! I may not be much of a coach, but I am a shrewd negotiator! I will con all of YOUR talent to come to Cal. I will also somehow con LSU and Florida players. Man, what a steep order. Screw that, Tedford will not leave us, he better not. He is all we have…

BEARS TO THE TOP 2007! STARTING WITH TENNESSEE!:machgun: :bash: :gun:

Okay, I have to leave now. All citizens of the Nation of Orange seeking asylum in the Territory of Bear should meet with me tomorrow. The citizenship papers will be expedited, on the authority of Oski. Leave your name and contact info here for further contact with our government. Remember, you are not traitors, you are PATRIOTS!

CAL IS THE FUTURE!

Guys! How can I get through to you that Cal is on the rise? I think you are going to be very sad for thinking so poorly of us. Many great teams have made the same mistake and been knocked of their pedestal. Will you soon join their ranks?

Please inform us of the great team CAL knocked off their pedestal............specifically, how many years ago was that?

Well, he does have a point. When Ainge was a freshmen, UGA was supposed to win it all. No one gave us a chance, but we won that game, didn't we. UGA was shocked. If we go into the game thinking we will win and get overconfident, don't be surprised if we lose.

Scout sucks for football recruiting. Everyone knows that. Rivals.com lists you as 22. I'll count this out for you. That is 19 spots below UTK. But I guess you are used to being under us.

scout is by far the best site for recruiting on the net. Rivals doesn't even bother to give ratings to half the recruits in the country. They also gave marshawn lynch a 3 star while scout had him rated the 2nd best RB in the country after peterson (which is exactly where the pro scouts rate him BTW). Mack that had as unrated and that guy was a first team pac-10 center as a softmore. Rivals blows.

You're right, they should walk in thinking they will just compete and hope we come out with a victory  If we don't win we had a good trip anyway.

We will win because we are the much better team. IT showed last year and it will again. I want those guys to get a little pride in their step and confident of the outcome.

Alright, droski, I'm only doing this once. I don't expect you to "get it" or want to "get it."

Final scores are permanent records of achievement. In fact, final scores = Ws and Ls which are the SOLE measuring stick of ACHIEVEMENT.

However, final scores don't always accurately record the performance. Performance in college football is best measured by total yards and first downs. See, last season Tennessee outgained their SEC foes by almost 50 yards yet achieved little - what happened in 2006? We improved a ton!

See, as I've said a million times on this board - people think they know more than they do about sports. Or, put more nicely - eyes lie. In my experience, only a handful out of 100 people can truly evaluate performance by watching the games. I know a few on this board, for instance.

Also, while I haven't bought into this next point yet, I think it may have some value: Let's say Cal averages 350 yards of offense per game and allows 290 per game. Then, let's say Arizona averages 300 yards per game of offense and allows 300. If Cal gains 320 and allows 310, Arizona was outperformed on the pure number, but outperformed what Cal usually does. That sounds murky, thus I haven't bought into it.

In the end, you'll argue about achievement vs. performance, total yards/FDs, and more things. But before you do, remember that I spend more time on these theories than anyone you may have ever met.

I see so if ASU down by 35 points gets like 200 yards of meaningless rushing stats (which they did), then ASU "outperformed" cal even though ASU scored like one TD off of those 200 yards rushing. And you said Cal should be 9-4, which implies that not only do you think ASU performed better than they usually do, and Cal worse, but that ASU should have beaten Cal.

No, that means the Pac-9 needs to learn to play defense.

I'm sorry if our walk on players allowed ASU's first team to rush the ball a little. Since they scored one td in the entire second half, i really don't see the relavance.

Reminds me of another game that was played at Neyland last season....:whistling:

You guys lose Lynch and a bunch of defenders. 35-0 sound familiar? That's when we called off the dogs. Whooped southern style.
I've got tickets already---- fellow vol fans need any? I have relatives high, high up at Berkley. Seriously though, the Cal fans were the highest class folks that I have seen in a while at Neyland and in general. I'm looking forward to a good game in the opener.

Yes, I need some.

Similar certainly, would you say Cal outperformed Tenn? Because that is essentially what VIA is arguing.

Oh, Cal had more total yards than Tennessee? I don't remember that. You obviously don't understand my entire theory, so just stop talking about it.

I understand your 'theory' somehow includes garbage time yards when teams are down by 35 points. Forgive me for not nominating you for the Nobel Prize.

Cal scored 3 non-offensive TDs, while adding a 4th in the 4th quarter after an ASU INT that put you in their red zone. It's okay, I know you can't possibly see that Cal was outperformed.

Tennessee was outperformed by Air Force and South Carolina.

I will agree that there were some very classy Cal fans there. Many I talked to were amazed at the atmosphere and that people were so welcoming.

The only problem I had was most of the Cal fans who made the trip warned us not to expect the same hospitality when making the visit there. Not that I'm surprised because of the cultural differences.
