Anybody else watching The U?

i loved it, i grew up in the 80 and hating miami.
but after watching that i kind of have a new found respect for the program. I also liked the jab they took at UF.
Very well done by espn.

I also thought some of Schellenbur3zg332er (sp?)/ jimmy johnson tactics at the time are similar to CLk and staff.

Uuhh, no. What Schnell did that was so groundbreaking at the time, if you actually watched the documentary, and what caused Miami to be so good was his willingness to go into the neighborhoods all other coaches were scared to go into. There, he found the best athletes and kept them all to himself. This factor, more than any other, made Miami what it was in the 80's and 90's.

They had no qualms about the "bad boy" image so long as they went in to the bad hoods around town and got the best athletes in the country.

That landscape doesn't exist anymore, where coaches won't go certain places. Every top-flight program recruits the hood to some extent in order to get the best of the best.

I realize its not the best comparisons thats why I didnt say Kiffin is doing it exactly like the guy with the f'ed last name.
I guess i was more or less pointing out they have both done unorthodox things to get miami out there and get recruits. prolly could have phrased it better.

Oh... Yeah.

Well, the reality is that those days are by the wayside, and the best programs are already going anywhere and everywhere to find the best players regardless of background. Since you can't break ground like that anymore, you simply have to have the best salesmen for your program around.

Miami should have had 7 nat titles from 83 to 02 not 5. The bad nd call and the 2002 pass int call. The 2002 call still pisses me off.

Plus don't forget the 2000 team got screwed BIG TIME out of a chance to play for a championship, serious how in God's good name can you beat a team (FSU) head to head, and the team that you defeated head to head ends up playing for the National Champion.

They may have very well gotten screwed that year. Washington had just as good if not better argument though since they beat Miami that year.

Very true. The thing that probably pissed Miami fans off the most is I'm pretty sure they were ranked number 2 in both polls and just got screwed by the computer polls.

Washington Huskies say what's up.

Every time the credits roll on that documentary, a tear almost comes to my eye.

Powerful, powerful stuff.

I finally watched the U this morning and what is funny is that one big thing struck out to me.

One of the players said that Florida didn't have the gonads to play Miami every year like FSU did. Typical Gator schedules, play Charleston or Troy instead of a real team.

We should keep Troy and drop FSU...our SOS could use the boost.

I just watched this. My only real problem with it is that it didn't give Davis the respect he deserved.

I did like how they said they had respect for FSU because they kept them on the schedule unlike Florida LMAO

Wow were they good! They did seem like a bunch of thugs but at the same time they looked like they had fun! To bad the NCAA took away celebrations and being happy after your team does something positive! Im sure we can owe that to the hurricanes as well. Sure wish tennessee could be that good again one day. The hurricanes were so dominate that they racked up over 200 yards in penalties against texas in the first half on purpose!! And still crushed them in there bowl game!! The 80's were the good ol days!!
