i loved it, i grew up in the 80 and hating miami.
but after watching that i kind of have a new found respect for the program. I also liked the jab they took at UF.
Very well done by espn.
I also thought some of Schellenbur3zg332er (sp?)/ jimmy johnson tactics at the time are similar to CLk and staff.
Uuhh, no. What Schnell did that was so groundbreaking at the time, if you actually watched the documentary, and what caused Miami to be so good was his willingness to go into the neighborhoods all other coaches were scared to go into. There, he found the best athletes and kept them all to himself. This factor, more than any other, made Miami what it was in the 80's and 90's.
They had no qualms about the "bad boy" image so long as they went in to the bad hoods around town and got the best athletes in the country.
That landscape doesn't exist anymore, where coaches won't go certain places. Every top-flight program recruits the hood to some extent in order to get the best of the best.
Miami should have had 7 nat titles from 83 to 02 not 5. The bad nd call and the 2002 pass int call. The 2002 call still pisses me off.
Plus don't forget the 2000 team got screwed BIG TIME out of a chance to play for a championship, serious how in God's good name can you beat a team (FSU) head to head, and the team that you defeated head to head ends up playing for the National Champion.
Very true. The thing that probably pissed Miami fans off the most is I'm pretty sure they were ranked number 2 in both polls and just got screwed by the computer polls. They may have very well gotten screwed that year. Washington had just as good if not better argument though since they beat Miami that year.
I finally watched the U this morning and what is funny is that one big thing struck out to me.
One of the players said that Florida didn't have the gonads to play Miami every year like FSU did. Typical Gator schedules, play Charleston or Troy instead of a real team.
