Anybody else watching The U?

lawrence wright got destroyed itt

and The U was the most fascinating thing I've seen on TV in a long time.

Pretty interesting. Really enjoyed the 1990 Cotton Bowl part. I wasn't aware of the details of that game until watching this, and I pretty much laughed all the way through that particular segment.

Was it just me, or did they kind of paint Butch Davis as the bad guy who tore down "The U" at the end of the show without spending much time on crediting him with setting them up for another national championship in 2001?

I just got done watching it and loved every single minute. It is hard to believe that any team will ever match it.

Wasn't Lamar Thomas the guy cheering wildly while calling the game during the brawl a few years ago with FIU?

I emailed espn 30 for 30, asking when the dvd was gonna be available.. I also asked why the 85' sugar bowl wasn't mentioned, still waiting on a response, I'll keep you posted. If you wanna email them here's the address.

Comming from a miami fan also I hope both them and UT can rise to what they had back then.

College football just hasn't been the same since UT, the U, and FSU dropped off.... Honestly it looks like all three are on there way back....The rest of America better look out!

Yeah, it was a little strange that the Sugar Bowl beatdown didn't get even a slight mention. I always thought the reason 1987 was so sweet for them was the failure of great teams to win big games at the end of 85 and 86. They talked about getting beaten by Penn State, but not us blowing their doors off the year earlier.

I can still remember seeing Miami blowing down the field and Vinny Testaverde hit Michael Irvin for a TD on their opening drive in the Sugar Bowl. I thought we were going to lose 100-0.

Just watched it after recording it last night. A few comments:

- In retrospect those teams were just good fun. None of their "brashness" should have been taken seriously. Just good entertainment.
- Interesting that the team they felt was their best couldn't win two huge bowl games (UT and Penn State). Remember at the time the Sugar Bowl kicked off they felt a win against UT would mean another #1 final ranking.
- The show only gives the perspective from past team participants view. Would love to have heard from Bozworth, Faust, Switzer, etc to get their perspective now of those UM teams.
- Reminders of Tom Mees early death always bothers me for some reason
- The early departure of Schnellenberger was somewhat strange; I never knew that was the reason
- Turner Gill didn't make a very good pass. Threw it behind the receiver. If he puts it between the numbers or on the left shoulder, Nebraska wins.
- Including Drew Rosenhaus in the documentary was of no value - wonder how muscled his way in for that piece of attention.

He did everything in his power to make up for Irving Fryar trying to throw the game.

its weird nowadays to think people legitimatley feared Lou Holtz.

Also to think of the coaches at that time and their records. you have Tom Osbourne, Barry Switzer, Bowden, Joe Pa, Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, and Jimmie.
