Anybody just lost interest in todays College football

So you guys were fine 30 years ago when the conferences and networks made the sport big business and coaches were making millions and could walk way without notice? NOW you're mad? Maybe you should have been paying attention, this outcome was inevitable and the universities, conferences, networks, and coaches are all to blame. People holding onto this romantized version of the "student athlete" are living in an era that died a LONG time ago. You're stuck in an era with 3 channels. And if you don't like it.....there are lower divisions of football that are begging you to care about them.

To answer the original question though, I have been losing interest compared to my younger self probably because what happens in a game doesn't seem to be as important anymore. I enjoy it for what it is, but the days of it consuming my daily life are long over.
i agree to an extent. Things have changed and it’s slowly ruining college sports, for me anyways. Do you not think these millions made. Help build better facilities, get better coaches. Heck even renovate some of the school Buildings. Some people Make it sound like everyone involved pocketed the money and took off running. It takes money to make money. I’ve seen in here during recruiting, “ we have some of the best facilities, why not come here?” The facilities were not upgraded on just donations and on the kindness of someone’s heart.

I feel like with NIL and all the changes i find myself just not having as much interest in it. Depressing honestly. I personally think all college sports are ruined going forward. I’ll still watch the Vols but it’s just meh at this point. There’s no team loyalty, it’s just about money now.
I do understand your logic. However, my angle is...

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get very muddy, but the pig just likes it.

Since NIL started, that is how Bama thinks of us. We are the pig.

Therefore, I like NIL

I do not have the passion for college football the last coupe of years that I did have.
I remember when I put a TN game ahead of a personal or family event. Then I slowly started putting personal and family ahead of the games I could not in good conscience prioritize such as Chattanooga, Kent State, etc. Now, I truly believe the way the college game is going in the near future it will not upset me with missing even the tougher games.

As a man of 74, I am actually proud of myself for the “wake up call” that it is just a game and my life is not affected in any way by the results of the game. Being honest, I can also say I’m sort of ashamed of myself for it taking me this long to have the “wake up call.”

I encourage you to not wait as long as I did to realize this. I assure you that you can still enjoy being a Vol fan, and not let it consume your emotions and affect the more important things in your life.

The money people and powers to be will change the college game to match the NFL. I predicted that two years ago on here. Soon I think we will see players making more money than the coaches, think about that.

Over the years, I've started to gravitate towards games where the underdog is playing good enough to win. I'll go about my business and keep up with the scores. If there's a danger of an upset after halftime, those are the ones I've prioritized watching or two good teams where the score is close after halftime. I'll always be partial to the Vols of course, but you're right, it'll never be the same and I'm not going to disrupt my life any longer for a single game especially if the season is not going so well. Call me a traitor or not a true fan, I don't care, as I know I have a life and football doesn't dictate it.

That’s what I enjoyed about some of the non CFP Bowl Games this year. You had players wanting to be there and it felt like the were playing for pride.

Personally, I have not watched another college team play a game in 25 years. If the Vols aren't on the tube, you couldn't pay me to watch any other team. And now, NIL has screwed up NCAAF for forever, unless they come in and set up rigid but realistic parameters. Nice to see parody but, at what cost?

I think there should be a "no transfer " clause in players NIL deals. Perhaps a no transfer clause for starters, or just anyone that makes the team period. If I were a coach, I would sell recruits on the privilege of playing for a University that's pretty much #1 or top 25 in the majority of sports. I would ask for a commitment of loyalty. It's not Vol for a season or two, it's Vol For Life. (Cue NWO entrance music!), then play Rocky Top 50 times, cause you love it!

If I didn't like college football I would not have read this thread .
The NFL has been so widely rejected you can't get tickets to games in 32 different American cities plus London, Germany, Mexico and Brazil.

Here's a thought do you guys think in a couple more years teams with less talent but with more team chemistry and played together as a team longer will they be able to compete with the these with more talent but rotate players every year? Kinda like college basketball?

Think we are definitely going to see this. Team of low four stars and high three stars all in the 3rd and fourth years going against high four and five star mercenary teams of sophomore and freshman.

Will be interesting because most top 10 teams are shuffling players like a deck of uno cards right now.

So you'd rather go back to watching Bama, Clemson and UGA paying the most for players and win the title every other year? That's more interesting to you?

I gave .money to spyre. I bought into the whole thing.

I was dead wrong and have learned my lesson.

Honestly, after our loss I have basically had no interest in watching CFB. I used to watch every window available basically.

Most of the playoffs I had on, but they were just kind of in the background. I doubt I could tell you one play out of the games from last week.

What that will mean for next season I dunno. Will I still watch UT football, of course.

Will it be the centrepoint of my fall? I honestly don't know.

I do know that I am planning to watch more D3 games of the local schools in person going forward. At least there, kids are playing for the right reasons and I don't have to feel dirty after watching the game.

Clearly no one here....look where they are 😅

We're as good as we've been since at least the early 2000s...so I'm at peak interest these days.

Also great to see more parity. No Bama, Clemson, or UGA in the FF, who would've thunk it.

Lol.

WE MADE THE PLAYOFFS.

And if you think the remaining teams are slowing down funds...well they're not.

It's not NIL as it was meant to be. It's pay for play, Most of the time highest bidder wins. These players are making lots of money, they should be held accountable for their play. They are now semi pro.

Getting there. College football is now basically Triple A NFL football. Companies are sponsoring players, stadiums and basketball arenas. With the rapidly increasing need for NIL money (sponsorship), corporations will eventually sponsor the teams themselves.

That is a summary of the BYU vs Colorado game. Except, the Mormons were 25-26 years old.

Just beat the snot out of the teenager team.

I enjoyed seeing that Pilot logo on the field.

Reminded me of how thrilled I was the day the Haslam family bought the Browns.
