Anybody just lost interest in todays College football

I think there should be a "no transfer " clause in players NIL deals. Perhaps a no transfer clause for starters, or just anyone that makes the team period. If I were a coach, I would sell recruits on the privilege of playing for a University that's pretty much #1 or top 25 in the majority of sports. I would ask for a commitment of loyalty. It's not Vol for a season or two, it's Vol For Life. (Cue NWO entrance music!), then play Rocky Top 50 times, cause you love it!
That would violate federal law. Congratulations on advocating for lawbreaking ..errr, not.

Do you mean that it's illegal to have a player sign a contract to stay at Tennesse in order to keep the NIL money? I understand that local collectives are involved in giving out deals, and not the University. Do you mean it's illegal to have a player to sign a contract to stay at a school period?

With the advent of huge NIL money, coincidental with the Transfer Portal…I’ve definitely lost a lot of interest in college football. The “old days “ when recruits were brought to campus, stayed there.. trained and developed into being competitive are gone. We used to be able to follow the kid’s careers from freshman to graduation. No more. Seems like everyone transferred in from somewhere else. For some time now… I’ve had ZERO interest in NFL football. I’m still interested in how Tennessee plays but even that feels like it’s fading. The closer the NCAA game gets to looking like the NFL the less interest I will have.

So I seen for the first time this morning that a lineman from Chattanooga is committing next week,in the past I would have known about this long ago.Now I barely look at recruiting, all the fun has been sucked away.

I was about to say I'm only interested in watching the top 4 or 5 teams, but I don't even know when the next playoff game is. Tonight? Saturday? So I guess I don't care as much as I thought. I do like the idea of watching elite athletes compete against one another. Jeremiah Smith vs Texas would be interesting, I think. I don't care about seeing Penn State or Notre Dame. Really don't even care about seeing Texas now that I think about it. I'm just infatuated with Jeremiah Smith.

I do not have the passion for college football the last coupe of years that I did have.
I remember when I put a TN game ahead of a personal or family event. Then I slowly started putting personal and family ahead of the games I could not in good conscience prioritize such as Chattanooga, Kent State, etc. Now, I truly believe the way the college game is going in the near future it will not upset me with missing even the tougher games.

As a man of 74, I am actually proud of myself for the “wake up call” that it is just a game and my life is not affected in any way by the results of the game. Being honest, I can also say I’m sort of ashamed of myself for it taking me this long to have the “wake up call.”

I encourage you to not wait as long as I did to realize this. I assure you that you can still enjoy being a Vol fan, and not let it consume your emotions and affect the more important things in your life.

The money people and powers to be will change the college game to match the NFL. I predicted that two years ago on here. Soon I think we will see players making more money than the coaches, think about that.

I just turned 65, and came to that same 'realization' about five years ago when I gave up all sports other than CFB, CBB, and some college baseball, and really outside of UT games I don't watch much of anything else anymore.

I stopped letting losses affect me beyond right after games way before that, and as much as I'd love to see a natty again in my lifetime in football and one in hoops, it isn't the be all-end all it used to be. Having solid, competitive programs to watch and root for every season is what it's about for me at this point.

I feel like with NIL and all the changes i find myself just not having as much interest in it. Depressing honestly. I personally think all college sports are ruined going forward. I’ll still watch the Vols but it’s just meh at this point. There’s no team loyalty, it’s just about money now.
same here, i don't care about recruiting, just tell me the roster on game day.. my season tix are getting to expensive to keep. me and my family have always saved up for them each year. but paying 200$ to see new mexico state scrimmage isn't worth it.

No, but I have lost interest in proclamations regarding how much people dislike the NFL and today's college football.

Except they can (and do) transfer as well.
Except ?? There is always exceptions...always. They can quit and transfer. What % compared to other schools I don't know. Non athletes quit transfer as well if they can cut it.

I know couple of athletes in my home town years ago long before nil and the transfer portal that quit and transferred. One that was determined have medical condition that prohibited him from military service, one that couldn't cut the grades.

If they’re a good athlete, they should transfer.

I gave up completely on NASCAR about 20 years ago, and only rarely watch MLB or NFL. For a variety of reasons those sports are now bland and lifeless, at least to me. College Football is also on a fast track to mediocrity.

I guess I'll hunt and fish.
The changes they've made to CFB over the past few years actually remind me of all the stuff they did to NASCAR in the 00's.

NASCAR got rid of all its history in order to chase $$$$ from bigger markets. Worked for a few years, but over the long-run, it hurt the sport immensely. Now, it lacks the tradition it once had and everything is bland. Ratings fell, and eventually, they started making less money.

Here's a thought do you guys think in a couple more years teams with less talent but with more team chemistry and played together as a team longer will they be able to compete with the these with more talent but rotate players every year? Kinda like college basketball?
Yes!!! I think team chemistry is a very important aspect of football and it's that way for every single level, from youth to NFL. The other part to this is when those talented teams get their chemistry right it looks like OSU.

I'm a bit older than you & agree with your statements. 'Perspective' can certainly alter as one ages, eh?

That is why you cheer for the helmet and not the name on the jersey. If you are gonna buy a jersey, buy one of a senior who has been around a few years.
Manning, White (92, not the squirrel variety), Majors, Atkins, Wilson, Berry, Price, Martin, Whitten, Schuler, Dobbs, Raveiz, Cafego, Morgan, Hooker.... etc etc etc.

i'm enjoy high school sports more.
Do you have a vested interest? i.e. a kid playing? What teams do you pull for? I'm moving to Sevierville in the not too distant future and I wonder if the school there is worth watching.

One thing is not like the other

Those listed did not compete during the NIL era where people play at three or four schools before graduation.

Congratulations on the move. I'm envious. Sevier County was TSSAA State Champs in 5A (not the largest schools) this year. Assuming the coach is still there, should be a good team to follow.
