Anybody just lost interest in todays College football

I certainly do not pay attention from January (unless we are still playing) until August. It’s so chaotic and unorganized that there’s really no point in paying attention until August. Whoever shows up on the field at that first game is what ultimately matters. And shoot some kids will quit during the season (see Cam Carr). I used to follow recruiting, spring practice and fall practice every day. Now it’s just not worth it. And I’m afraid, at some point, my interest during the season will go down too. And that’s probably coming sooner rather than later.
Yeah, I could care less about any of that now, I’m afraid that’s gonna be the sentiment with a lot of fans and not just our team. I’m afraid eventually the ratings will go down, people that have been watching college football for 20+ years are just not interested as much in what the product is now. We talked about going to see a game this year. I haven’t been to one in three or four years but honestly, I just can’t justify over 1000 bucks to take a family of four to see a football game, the ticket prices have gone through the roof, Hotel unless you wanna get back really late food etc. it’s just not worth it’s way easier to watch it on TV. I used to plan family events and outings around what time Tennessee was playing, but at this point it’s just not worth it, it’s just a football game and they are ruining it in stellar fashion. I’ll always be a Tennessee Vol and bleed orange but I feel like college football is now going the way of the NFL, obviously that has gone down for a different reason, but I used to watch that too now and I could give two craps about pro football.

Fans know how much college players are paid now.

So when Nico misses a wide open receiver or throws a pick, some fans complain about him getting that $8m NIL deal….as if these same fans would turn down $8m if they were in Nico’s shoes.

And I’m with you 100% on following recruiting. Now I just check to see who signed and who shows up for fall practice.
No doubt about your last paragraph. I no longer care about recruiting. Just show me the roster when the season starts so that I know who we have.

But make no mistake. You are correct that nobody with a brain is going to turn down the NIL money. But you better believe that it will ratchet up the pressure to perform. If they are getting paid big bucks, they need to be ready for the criticism when they don’t perform. Especially when folks are paying ever increasing amounts of money to see it. That’s just part of being a pro. Can’t run to mama when you start collecting a paycheck to do a job. Your performance is on you. You get the benefits and the negatives that come with the paycheck.

I feel like with NIL and all the changes i find myself just not having as much interest in it. Depressing honestly. I personally think all college sports are ruined going forward. I’ll still watch the Vols but it’s just meh at this point. There’s no team loyalty, it’s just about money now.
I'll bet you squealed like a little school girl when Jermod McCoy picked off Milroe and took it back halfway down the field to stop a touchdown. When you did, were you thinking about how Oregon State got shafted by the transfer portal?

Yes you use to follow your favorite pro team because they had your favorite player(Manning with the colts, Brady with the patriots, Marino with the Dolphins, Etc). Now I don't even know the QB for most of my favorite pro teams. They jump ship so often.

College is rapidly becoming the same way. No team loyalty. Why should anybody donate money so some kid can make a million/s or so during there college stay? That is more money than most people make in their career. Sorry no thanks!;)

No. It is the nature of the beast at the moment.
Rules will change, NCAA is going to NCAA.
It will not happen overnight, but at some point it will get fixed.
A new organization will form as a result if it continues like this.
House cleaning in order, but it will not move as fast as some want it.
A better structure is in the making.

I watched less football this season than I have in decades. JMO.....but unless they get this under control then the 35 year olds and under will have to keep this train on the tracks. The older crowd like me will lose interest like I have. Something is bad wrong when the week before our playoff game we had players transferring out. Where does that make sense?

My interest has been waning for a while. I despise the contact rules. I absolutely HATE the new clock rules. I don't like the entitlement in this generation of players. I don't care for most of the network journalism around the sport unlike 20-30 years ago.

I used to love CFB no matter who was playing. I mostly now just watch UT or games that have a direct bearing on UT.

You are absolutely correct in everything you say, however, it is going to change unfortunately.
I even miss listening to John Ward on the radio back in the day before TV crews could get to the games. Vivid memories of Ward announcing the Tennessee - Alabama games. No TV. At the games it was so easy to take a pocket transistor radio to listen to Ward and at that time it was the best way to follow the game from the stands with binoculars.

My favorite NFL team I and always has been the Falcons. Why? Because I lived in Atlanta when they got not the NFL and had season tickets on the 50 yard line. Tommy Nobis was their first pick in their first draft and played for them until he retired. I was also in Atlanta when the Braves moved to Atlanta. I saw the first games that bother the Falcons and Braves played there. I saw the first MLB play in Atlanta when Tigers and Braves played the last preseason game before the season started. I had some really good experiences with the professional sports teams in Atlanta. My daughter and her husband had first row seats when the Hawks moved in, but have seen only one NHL game in Atlanta. The hight light in sports in Atlanta was the Olympics. We had bought some tickets to a number ion events, but a lot of relatives came to visit and they always had extra tickets to events for us. My son's office was on South Peachtree Street, so we always had parking close to most events. The Chamber of Commerce had almost insisted locals take MARTA to down town and when we drove, there were almost no traffic on the Interstates. We were there the night the bomber struck, but we had left for home about 10 minutes before he set off the bomb because my sister was not feeling well. I had some great experiences in Atlanta, but I moved back to East Tennessee as soon as I could after my wife's retirement. There is no better place to live than in East Tennessee.

My interest in the NFL waned long ago and cratered completely when they went woke. Now college football is being destroyed by NIL and the transfer portal. I understand the use of both by the players, but it changes it to the point where I am no longer interested. Really sad state of affairs.

The bulk of fans aren't glued to every tiny bit of recruiting/player/team/coaching news, nor twitching incessantly over the portal, transfers, or NIL, and tossing their newborn into the crib to spend the next 20 minutes following up on an alert that another WR transferred. They aren't sad, depressed, or swearing off the game because it isn't life itself to them. It's just a game to indulge in for 3.5 hours 12-14 Saturdays a year. It's fun and enjoyable that way.

I notice that the Cowboys released Zeke so he could play in the playoffs this year. It's crazier than college.

Play all year for the Cowboys.
Get released.
Get picked up by a contender and possibly get a ring even though your regular season contribution to that team was zero.

For an older RB like Zeke, save your body by being a backup for some team, then get released to give a team a playoff push in only a few games and possibly a championship.

Nice strategy.

The players deserve to be paid because there is just so much money going around that it just ain't right not paying them.

Also, it's a free country (supposedly) so they can transfer to another school. Why do I care?

Not only is the system better for the athletes, but it's more interesting to pay attention to the roster now adays.

I started watching Ivy League football. The teams are pretty evenly matched. Pick a team and follow (root ) for that team through out the season. Seems like less commercials. If a guy gets hurt he limps off the field. Not many reviews either due to limited camera angles.

Oddly enough I took a day drive up the dragon into NC last week. Figured I would find a decent place to eat breakfast, and come back the way I came in. First place I found worth the stop? A ittle spot in Andrews. At that point , it made more sense to come home via Murphy.

Went right by that grocery store, and saw the dumpster they found that bomber guy in. Wasn't as easy as in past trips, cause Murphy NC has really grown. Can't say the same for the rest of the places I drove through. Some of them reminded me of how Ukraine might look.

It'll get fixed when the NCAA goes belly up, which I feel likely might be within 5 years.

Why are the ones saying they no longer care about college football even posting here. That just seems odd and not reflective of most fans views. College football is going to continue to draw large crowds and have plenty of viewers. Maybe it will lose some but still gaining popularity overall.

Still care about the Vols. But to Hell with the rest of it.

And the "most fans views" part? Those are the jerks that let em get away with starting the targeting rule. Had the interest dropped? That rule would have gone away too.

I’m hoping that one day soon that AI will develop to the point where you can choose to have it will announce the games in the voice of John Ward.

This reminds me of when major-league baseball salaries started to skyrocket. It took something away from the game, especially when they went on strike. My interest eventually returned, the college football current situation is worse. When a professional athlete signs one of these mega contracts it’s usually for a multi year deal. In college football, you can be here one year and gone the next. NIL put a damper on things, but I understand how the kids would want that and need it. But why can’t they commit to the same college for a multi year term so the fans know what to look for?
