Cheek is an academic. Doesn't care about sports. It wouldn't excite him to be there anymore than it would excite one of us to attend a lecture on astro-physics or global warming.

That's why all the stuff about him being a Gator fan is dumb.

It is a bit troubling that he wouldn't be a bit more social in a room filled with people who report on and contribute to the university (albeit athletics) but I really don't know that that's a big part of his job, either.

Sometimes in life the answer is right in front of you and it is to obvious to see. Cheek freed up 18 million dollars over the next three years for Hart to use in hiring a new football coach and staff. Hart had the task to find a coach for that amount of money so he went out and threw that amount around until he found a taker. He publically stated that he reached out to Gruden and Gundy to satisfied a mystified fan base knowing they would turn him down. He then turned his attention to the big.east coaches that would consider that amount of money. He offered Strong the same package three million for head coach and three million for staff. Then he went to Butch who accepted. Cheek is in charge don't be fooled. After the buyouts are over in three years the money reverts back to him. This is what happened.

Look at the series of events. Haslams plane went to lville to keep Hart from upping Strong's offer. The same reason Peyton tried to get Jone's to take the Co job. The Ad and UT acted on their own.

Appreciate you saying that and glad you did. I suspected it was these mid level boosters who wanted to feel like big wigs.

Trust me, I work with a lot of well-to-do people and have learned that just because someone has money doesn't mean he/she is an honest person.

How did we end up with CBJ?

On the surface it was quite simple but on the message boards we had smoke-screening, deception, Gruden spottings all over the country (including the Fox & Hound in Newport...and maybe Rudy's in Bucksnoort), and all sorts of hidden meanings such as Gruden's tie color on MNG (Monday Night Gruden) and the special way he said "TENNESSEE".

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to connect all those dots. Grudemonium was in full force! SOON!

In reality Gruden said, no. A few other coaches used the "Tennessee" name to get raises and extensions. Fulmer and his agent used to pull that all the time. At one point the Carolina Panthers were all set to hire Fulmer...according to his agent.

And we wound up with Jones.
