AP Poll LVs #19

What? That just seems silly. I get having a hangover from a couple of disappointing years, but voters should be passed that now. They think Iowa should still be ranked but not the LVs?

Fla St is hurting us, they're out of the top 25 and only got 3 votes. Thought that win would be more impactful.

KY does seem too high at 16, def is Kenny favoritism/respect in there.

How does Alabama fall all the way to first out, and Ole Miss stays in at 6-3?
Those three are the Water Carriers for the rivalry with UConn. I kinda get it. We’re getting close to some major payback. 😉🧡🤙🏼

I really thought this season would be the end for Banghart at UNC, but it seems like Deja Kelly was addition by subtraction. They haven't really passed the eye test for me, and it's only been 10 games, but this team is her best by far in offensive rating, 2-point FG%, 3-point FG%, assists, turnovers, and A/TO ratio - all while being about on par with their defensive stats from previous seasons (which have always been pretty good). I don't think they're a true contender, but I think they're better than 8th or 9th in the ACC.

I agree with you re: Amoore. Her shooting is way off. That said, she's averaging a career-best 2.87 A/TO ratio and 8.3 assists/game. Not sure she can keep that up in the SEC, though.

Yes Amoore is passing the ball really well, they need her to hit shots to win in the SEC though. Strack is going to have her hands full with the physicality of the SEC.

And yes, I agree, UNC is better for not having Kelly anymore. Even though they are better offensively it still doesn’t look great to me and their defense is about the same.

Rumor was we scrimmaged them in Atlanta and beat them pretty handily. A scrimmage is a scrimmage but it was nice to hear.

Alexa Philippou, Mich Voepel, Becca Lobo. Not one ballot reflects LVs at all.

They anus…
Not exactly sure what you're saying here. Looking at today's poll, the Lady Vols are ranked 17, 17, 20 respectively by Philippou, Voepel, and Lobo.

The writers who don't have the Lady Vols ranked are:
Angel Grey - ESPN
Christy Winters Scott - NBCSW
Eden Laase - Hoops HQ
Kent Youngblood - Minnesota Star Tribune
Percy Allen - Seattle Times
Robert Cessna - Bryant-College Station Eagle
Terrika Foster-Brasby - CBS Sports

I stand corrected. My links weren’t refreshing.

A frind reminded me not to worry about
- Babbling idiot announcers
- prejudiced, partisan homer announcers
Poll voters who disagree with my rankings
Refs who are obviously in the bag for our opponents
Posters who are clearly out of touch with reality

Why should I take all of the above with a grain of salt?

None of those things have any effect at all on the way our LVs play.

Well-earned and well-deserved ranking.

One thing is for certain - the "give Tennessee a friendly ranking bump because it's the Lady Vols" thing has been dead for a while now, so this current version of Tennessee has earned it on the court by busting their asses for forty every night.

Kim Mulkey is not Jan Jensen. If she has 6’6” with size and you can’t matchup she will murder you in the paint.

Right now they are struggling with their frontline. If their guards are off at all it gets ugly for them in a hurry. All of her best teams have been built around post play.
If they get TO the PAINT

Surprised Kentucky only dropped two spots after losing by almost 20 to UNC. I don’t think either of those teams is particularly great.

UNC is likely 8th or 9th in the ACC and I doubt they’re a top 25 team by February. They have some veteran player but none of them are elite.

Unless Amoore starts scoring 20+ a game Kentucky just isn’t very good. They have some size but that size is young and very guardable.

Something seems really off with Amoore, just not the same player at all so far this season. I’m sure she’ll torch us when we play lol, but she has been a disappointment so far.
UNC was predicted to finished 6th in the ACC and finished 8th or 9th would be a disappointment. They will played Georgia Tech at home this Sunday, and Florida in Charlotte next week. They begin the year off with Miami on the road, and Notre Dame and Duke at home. UNC is place to go to for 6'4 and 6'5 players that wants to shoots 3s all day because Banghart allows Cierra Toomey to shoot them.

IMO, Kentucky doesn't a reliable 3rd option yet who can take some of the pressure away from Amoore and Strack. Amoore had that Kentucky with Asia Sheppard and Taylor Soule.

Seems to me Kristy Curry needs to ask Yo for the list of voters she needs to either pay or do dirty, dirty things with in order to get the votes. 😂

But seriously, I have always been a big fan of Curry because I think she is a terrific coach who gets the most out of her players. I was thrilled when Loretto's Karly Weathers signed with Bama because I knew if she had it in her to be an effective D1 player, Kristy would get it out of her. And she has. I'm so happy for Weathers.

Well deserved and likely will stay in TOP 25 all year.

Looks like we will make it to Conference play undefeated (12-0) then I think 10-6 in conference play and probably 0-1 Against UConn

22-7 in year one before discussing post season play would be a huge 1st year.
It is to our benefit that the conference is stacked this year. I think a great goal for this team would be to host the NCAA first two rounds and make it to the Sweet 16. At that point, we might be the kind of team that could upset someone the next round because our style of play. With the conference strength so much stronger than it has been in years (3 of the top 6, 8 have been ranked already and Vandy making a move in the receiving vote category), 10 conference wins with our wins against FSU and Iowa would almost assure us to be able to host. So, I think it is a sound prediction that would meet my hopes for this team this year (not saying my dreams).

You think we’re going to lose 6 games in conference play? To who? I think we’ll beat Oklahoma, LSU at least once, Alabama, Ole Miss with possible/probable losses to Texas, SC, LSU(once)

I would love for us to do better than 10-6 in conference play, don't get me wrong I'm very impressed with our start to the season.

But conference play is tough, our girls could hit a wall with this style, plus not knowing the impact with CKC missing time due to baby.

I was just choosing what my gut feeling was on a fair respectable outcome.

Yes I was off top of my head giving us losses to LSU, USCe, and Texas. Then account for toss up games and 3 more seemed reasonable.

I would love for you to be right. I can see the potential of that outcome. I'm just going off my gut feeling and saying if that's the case that alone is a really good first year

That's certainly MY hope. 🤞🏻

And I can't help always remembering that we came within 1.1 seconds of upsetting eventual National Champion and juggernaut South Carolina LAST season, and that was BEFORE we had enough team quickness to brag about.

So, in my opinion, if the Lady Vols keeps improving at the rate they have so far, I don't see why they wouldn't have a decent chance of beating anyone in the league when the time comes to fight for those big wins. Clearly this group is resilient, and being resilient means you've always got a chance at the end. Resiliency beat Iowa.

I'm a big Curry fan too. But I'm curious if you're as put off by her hubby's presence as asst as you were about Jon?

The tragedy of Kellie Harper. Painfully, agonizing close both in recruiting and on the court. But could never quite close.

We didn't have the requiste quickness nor talent to close the deal last year, but stayed so agonizingly close bc we had one really great player. Her performance in the comeback in the 1.1 game should have been one for the ages.
