AP Poll LVs #19

What? That just seems silly. I get having a hangover from a couple of disappointing years, but voters should be passed that now. They think Iowa should still be ranked but not the LVs?

Fla St is hurting us, they're out of the top 25 and only got 3 votes. Thought that win would be more impactful.

KY does seem too high at 16, def is Kenny favoritism/respect in there.

How does Alabama fall all the way to first out, and Ole Miss stays in at 6-3?
Question for anyone?
Does Old Miss have a difficult schedule.

Yes they've played a very tough sched when not feasting on cupcakes. They've played So Cal, UConn and NC State, lost all pretty convincingly. Yo has a team that could really benefit fm a system like LVs are running. Her talent gap on offense is huge.

It's the kind of schedule and result that helped tank Kellie Harper's career. And def dropped the LVs out of the top 25. Not sure how OM is hanging on.

Agreement schedule help put more than one nail in Kellie coach at Tennessee coffin.

And the fact she did it not once, but twice. Should have learned after the first year of overscheduling. Of course she couldn't have anticipated the devastating loss of Rickea the second yr. Still, I would have been way more careful, esp after LSU won the natty after the softest pre season imaginable. I no longer think a tough preseason prepares a team for anything, esp in a conf as tough as the SEC.

Maybe she should have gave green second chance
Talking About the point guard Green.
I like how she looked playing first year.
Point guard problems/ production hurt Kellie's teams.
I personally wish she would have gotten a veteran assistant like Mickey Demons.

Not sure they had a choice w Zaay. I think there may have been university policy involved.

The PG we needed so badly last year is our PG this yr. Every game I think what if we had Spencer last yr?

Massengale from Kentucky wasn't bad Kellie first year.
Point guard production hurt Kellie offense
Like a quarter back good one that fits your team helps

Yes don’t do Ariel like that lol
No disrespect to Ariel
Just remember Jazmine M. Didn't turnover much if I recalling right.
Was remember Tennessee vs Notre Dame Kellie first year victory that's why brought up the transfer to Kentucky.
One more thing before I stop talking about point guard.
Still glad Westbrook didn't win a title didn't give Kellie a fair chance.
Kellie put players in the WNBA
Still think they would busted through Sweet sixteen together.

Massengale was injured most of her career. I can’t remember if it was concussions or knees I just know she was mostly retired by the end of her career.

Massengill was just too inept offensively, she was steady but couldn’t impact the game enough to make much noise.

The LV's have their work cut out for them restoring the media bias they enjoyed until the last few years. Once they win back that bias, it will become easier to get votes. Kim will need to upgrade her OOC schedule a little bit next year but needs to follow the scheduling guidance of Mulky and Luigi and schedule light until she gets enough talented players playing well.

Drop the 250+ games and raise the bar to around 100-150. That would help the NET numbers a lot without too much increased exposure. We should finish the season in the top 20 NET with the schedule as it is.

Not sure this actually applies to the new Kim Caldwell era.
Without the changes and results over the past 7 months in winning games, signing a strong portal class, signing a top 2 high school class you would be exactly right.
Coach Caldwell has the roster that she wants and needs right now for her system.
They compete and play hard.
The continued growth is what will set them apart.
This team still is far from reaching its ceiling.

It will be safer next season to do just that with the OOC schedule. This season, though, she had to not penalize them while they were learning.

Next season she will have more than just one player who knows her system. Players teaching players is such a coaching-multiplier, and it begins taking effect in the summer. Also, players will be in better shape sooner, so more practice time can be devoted to plays, nuances, and learning to play together.

(Another factor that is necessarily delaying their development of "chemistry" this season is that they're learning to play together while they're learning the system--which means, how each individual plays now is not yet instinctive... not how they will play when they're confident about what they're doing within the system. So we also have that to look forward to in the future!)

As for garnering recognition and respect, we probably need to remind ourselves that no one has yet to see CKC's system in action at Tennessee. CKC insists that they're still "getting it," but that when it eventually "clicks" with the players, people will see the difference.

Bright future ahead!

Not disagreeing with your general point but we don't actually know CKC's philosophy regarding pre-conference strength of schedule. The LV tradition has been to play a brutally tough schedule to prepare for rigors of tournament basketball (and to grow the game) but it has never really been clear that tough games in November have that much direct pay-off in March.

Uconn won many NCs feasting on cupcakes in their pre-conference games. It seems like a few (2 or 3) hard games in pre-conference may be more than sufficient.

Even next year, the team will be overhauled with an influx of freshman and who knows what might transpire in the portal (which can flow both in and out).

Yes, and we don't know how her pregnancy played into the OOC schedule as well. Perhaps she wanted to play fewer games with minimal travel due to wanting to take care of herself and baby while giving the team ample time to learn her system. It will be interesting to see next year schedule. Poor tyke will probably have their birthday near the beginning of conference play every year.
