Apparently something is going on?

The latest salary I could find on Coach Walz is from 2014 and it was $1,050,000. I'm assuming it has risen at least a small amount since then.

I seem to remember some injuries for the LV team. Wasn't Russell injured at one time. Has this been part of the problem?

I really think that UT is such a strong program that it will be able to weather these problems. It's not like they are some "Johnny Come Lately" program that will be here today gone tomorrow.

I'm not trolling. It was on one of our forums that Jeff's name was being mentioned on some of UT's forums. I came over and read some of them and thought that I could be part of a logical forum discussion where we all maintained a certain level of decorum. I feel that I have done just that, providing another point of view to which others could respond, which most have done.

I've not been critical of whatever the situation is currently as I am not as close to that as others are so I never presumed to come on this site and tell anyone what they should or should not do in regards to your current coach. I simply offered a viewpoint from another perspective.

teacherdean, you are more than welcome on our forums if you wish. Like I stated earlier I really enjoyed my one interaction with Coach Warlick and I know our fan base was appreciative that the Lady Vols helped us inaugurate the YUM by playing the first game in our new arena 6 years ago (even though you beat us :))

Sorry that you think I am "trolling" your forum. We have to deal with UK fans all the time so I'm well aware of what trolling is.

Welcome. You were very polite and are not a troll.

Watching this post game presser and it looks like young lady who understand that at the mike they can't really say what they are thinking. DD is saying the right things but her body language and facial expressions say different.

Carter's assessment of their struggles against the zone is a combination of coaching and players understanding within their own heads how to beat the zone and executing.

One way to beat the zone is run a 1-3-1 offense and move the ball faster than the defenders can move. Syracuse men run a match up zone that has been their staple but teams are beating it easily now by running a guy baseline and posting a player at the foul line and moving the ball faster than the defenders can move.

It's adjustments and Warlick is not making any from a coaching perspective and the players are just going through the motions. Most of their turnovers are from trying to pass into a zone.

Mickey talked about this rumor on his show the other day and quickly dismissed it...no way UT fires her after one bad season

Women's Basketball is no longer a priority at Tennessee.
The Athletic Department doesn't understand what kind of revenue can be made off of a successful Lady Vol Basketball Program. Dave Hart has never really been the AD at a school that has had successful basketball period.
Hart is part of the reason that Alabama's Women now play in the equivalent of a middle school gym. Holly isn't going anywhere and the Lady Vols aren't high on the priority list.

Womens' basketball rarely makes a profit..in 2010-2011 UT lost 713,000

even UConn loses money
The University of Connecticut's run at a third consecutive women's basketball championship comes with the trappings of a world-class sports event, including a national television audience and rowdy fans in blue wigs and face paint.

The Huskies dominate on the court, and can sell out arenas. What they lose is money. The program spent $723,900 more than it earned in fiscal 2010.

"There is intrinsic value in being able to carry your own weight," McGlade said. "For the amount of resources going into intercollegiate women's basketball, there's going to be a time where there has to be a rational decision of, is it worth it?"

Bloomberg News used open records laws to obtain financial reports of state schools in the six conferences: Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10 and Southeastern. The 20 private schools in the conferences aren't required to make such records public.

Each of the 53 teams lost money in the 2010 fiscal year, and the average operating deficit was $2.01 million on an average $804,577 of revenue, according to the reports. The University of Tennessee, ranked fourth in The Associated Press Top 25, lost $713,997, while No. 7 Texas A&M University had a $2.8 million shortfall. No. 12 Michigan State University was $2.01 million in the red.

Here is the only time I show it turning a profit..that was two years ago
Women's Team Expenses: $4,813,394
›Women's Team Revenue: $4,837,245
›Women's Team Profit: $23,851.

I just would like to see a top 15 coach. This is the LADY VOLS after all!!!!

Just because a coach is at a Top 15 program does not mean they would take UT to a final four; and it doesn't mean they wouldn't. We have to stay open to all candidates because a great offensive mind may not be at a Top 15 program. Let's look at programs with low assist to turnover ratio and good 3-point shooting. UT can recruit bigs. If we get a coach who can limit turnovers and put in a system, we are set.

Yes you're correct. I never paid attention to the date from USAToday when I looked a few weeks ago. It was $775k but that was 2013. That changes my thinking then. Another $250k isn't anything for UofL to match, if UT offered him Pat's salary.

I wonder how many seasons will it take. I think next season will be worse with loosing Moore and Graves to graduation. Holly thinks she is doing a fine job and we have fans whom seem to think she is also. I think we open up with Baylor next season. I guess they'll have to mop the floor with the Lady Vols and then when no Elite recruits come for the 2017, some fans will finally wake up. Holly can't coach and offense is not important to her! Next season we'll see this same brand of basketball. Fans will continue to support her because she's "nice", while the program is continually sinking. Oh well, Final Fours and Championships will be a thing of the past with her as the head coach. Tennessee has become a national joke, but fans still believe in Holly.

Firing Holly could end up being a disaster.

After firing Phillip Fulmer seven seasons ago, the football team still does not have a truly marquee win. Still have not beaten Florida or Alabama, and still have not won even a division title in a Very Mediocre division.

The Fulmer Curse.

wait and see who transfers in a couple months - Dunbar and Middleton are likely to leave, as well as a couple others --- Getting Becky Hammon will be the best thing that can happen to LV basketball -- some big shot boosters need to make it happen

None of us know what the hell is going to happen at UT, probably nothing....The only thing that will make coaching changes are empty seats and booster's donations dry up...

The program that Warlick is running is on empty. It will be over soon, but will begin again nest season, only to fail again...And then just maybe, a change will take place after next season.

Unfortunately holly will still be the coach again unless someone with real pull agrees she needs to go. I doubt any of us fans posting here have near enough influence with the powers in charge. Too bad.😟

I seriously doubt Hammon would come coach the LVs. She's determined to keep moving forward in the NBA.

You could be on to something about the transfers. This team, IMO, is fractured beyond just the coaching. That UNC team that DD played on, did a lot of the winning sans Calder and his staff. They won a lot of games based on their talent. They ran the floor which opened up a lot of things for everyone not just DD.

Collectively, there are many fans that can have a difference. It obviously isn't working with a loaded roster. Staying home may be the best option for long-term benefit.

I predict that after the season there will be some changes made to the lady vols bb assistant coaching staff. this will be an attempt by the university of Tennessee athletic dept. to appease the pissed off fans.

with the mess going on now in the legal system accusing the university of neglect in protecting women against abuse, it would be more bad publicity to fire the woman's basketball coach. this will only delay the inevitable .. in the meantime the program declines more and more.:banghead2:

If they fire Holly and hire another woman, it would not come off as discrimination and I think there will be little to no publicity. I'm not persuaded that all these former players, alumni and commentators are in full support of Holly. People will say the right thing to the media and don't want to seem disrespectful. I just don't believe former players and alumni are confident Holly will lead this program back to Final Fours and Championships. I think they're just saying the right thing, but feel something else. This program is sinking and it's clear as day. Holly is not the answer. Some fans say/post what some fans are really thinking, but don't want to seem mean. If Holly stays two more seasons, I can see Tennessee becoming the next Old Dominion, Louisiana Tech or Southern Cal. Let's just be honest and let's just be real. Tennessee needs a new coach.

Warlick's been on our bench for 30 years--and yet, astoundingly, she still seems not to realize that our terrible offense is the source of our problems. She was pleased--pleased--with the team's performance the other night against SC--a game in which we shot 34 percent and had 46 points with 1.5 minutes left. And lost. A game in which south carolina did not play well. We scored 10 points in the last minute and a half after the game was effectively over. Last year, in the NCAA tourney game against Maryland, we scored 48 points. We struggle to get to 50 points every game--but our coach apparently does not think this is a system or coaching issue. She thinks the players need to practice shooting more (she says that ofen) and generally "play better." Oh, my.

I don't know how to post an article, but the article said that the donors are not looking to make a change at this point.

Both athletic directors and boosters from across the nation are reading VolNation trying to find head coach candidates for their schools at the end of the season. They were told there are many on this board that know all there is to know about the game of basketball.
