'24 AR RB Braylen Russell (Arkansas commit)

Oh, Go Hogs, good to see you man. Welcome to the board. Now thaaat is just too funny. Here I was just takin' a little jog down memory lane...

Does it burn? What a game.

I was there at the game as a student and it was amazing! I sold 4 tickets before the game for $350 to some Arkansas fans. I hope they enjoyed the show !

Well said both. My two caveats are:

1) Stipulating your point, why spend SO much time and energy recruiting a kid like Franklin. If G knows him and the family so well it should've been obvious - before he started earning elite status on Spirit flying to Miami every weekend - that his was going to be an NIL recruitment. So if you don't want to get into that, don't. I respect that stance, but the opportunity cost of G spending so much effort on Franklin in lieu of guys like Amaris Williams or others is huge.

2) IMO, SOMETIMES you've got to go to the mattresses for a player. That either means beating the highest bid for an NIL kid OR it means big-dogging programs who you've got a resource advantage over (which as I understand it is most). You want to be judicious with who you do the former for - to the point of @KingNico's point - but if you want to land the elite players sometimes you've got the do it. Part of why Heupel is going to make ~$100M over the course of his time here is because he needs to be able to manage a locker room. And in terms of big-dogging, you have to figure out who you can do that to (I'd say Michigan, OU are two examples) and which recruits it matters for (e.g., Nwaneri is probably going to take less money to go to UGA).

Again, tons of grey, thanks to all for an interesting discussion...
Thoughtful and good questions.

Re 1) I don't want to comment on any kid specifically related to NIL necessarily as it's always pretty nuanced around what they are prioritizing. I would say a) that you don't necessarily go into every kid knowing how it'll play out b) kids can be torn on do I prioritize x or y. It's also hard for people from the outside in to know how much of the coaches time is actually being prioritized on who.

Re 2) All of these are calculated considerations based on player's ability, position of need, area they're from etc - one of the many reasons the Spyre guys always rank highly is because of they're thinking through a bunch of them imo

I'm sure you were much better than me about things like that...

Unfortunately I did that with several girls/women before settling down with my wife for the one real relationship I've had in my life. It isn't unfortunate that I ended up with her... just that I mistreated several girls along the way because of immature emotions and impulses. Most young people... not you... but most don't have the emotional maturity to make these decisions or to accept good advice.

Well, all you can really hope is that each one of the ladies grew from experiencing you in whatever way.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm not getting a great feel here fwiw. Not the end of the world if he goes to Arkansas but disappointing run if so.

Next week will be better regardless, I promise.
Sounds good, King!
It's all good.

Thanks for your sharing of the inside scoop👍. It keeps me coming back.

I think your feeling is accurate unfortunately. Time to move on.

Well Wright played as a true freshman and contributed. No reason Lewis or Russel couldn't since they are both more talented than Wright.
the original point made by the other guy was that our depth had very little experience, and somehow Russell was offered as a fix for that. even though he is another RB with very little experience.

Appreciate the info you bring. I will not hold it personally against you if we don't get him. If he does go back to Arky, there are plenty of folks on here who will be happy about it because they are too fragile to be wrong about something.

It could always change (and obviously I hope it does) but if you forced me to pick today, I'd definitely say Arkansas
you would clearly know before me, my prediction is based on having driven through that craphole once. I just dont see how anyone would want to live there.

I'm still going Tennessee, based in blind faith.
