I live in Miami and from what I am hearing it is over for UM football and basketball. There will be many players asking to be released and many of the current recruits for 2012 are starting to looking at different schools. The issue with player payment, strip clubs, prostitutes and the list of infractions goes on and on. The Miami Herald News Paper and the local TV channels are indicating that a number of coaches were aware of these infractions and even participated in connecting recruits with the alumni providing the NCAA violations. Several of the coaches are now with Alabama & Florida. I wonder what the fallout will be from these accusations.
The coaches implicated are currently with Alabama and Florida and were directly implicated with knowing and supporting these infractions. There have already been several of the players which have graduated which have admitted the allegations are true. If these allegations are true I believe the Hurricanes will be looking at the death penalty just as SMU. I am all Vol but I hate to see this happen to all the young men who have worked so hard for UM. Our coaches should certainly be looking at their recruits providing they fit DD character requirements as Miami iscurrently ranked fifth on Rivals.

I just don't see the NCAA handing down the death penalty anymore. If their was anytime to do it it would be in this case. Some serious stuff being accused. If it all comes out to be true and they don't get the death penalty then no one ever will. They deserve it though IMO.

There wont be a death penalty, this is business and the U has too much market value

They wont kill Miami SMU style...Im thinking it will be pretty close though...

Yeah, paying for a girl to have an abortion because she was impregnated by an athlete isn't that bad....

Miami is now the "Screwed U". They are SMU x 100.

Hate to see this kind of thing go down like it is, but man. They really messed up.

So does USC not have market value? That's a pretty ignorant statement to the severity of what they did. They [USC] got whopped pretty hard by the NCAA--and that was just for Reggie Bush's indiscretions.... Miami had 72 players (I think) and coaches involved.

Miami has effed up (knowingly), IMO, worse than any other school in history.

Like was mentioned before, this is Miami...They wont get the death penalty even if they entire team murdered someone. I'll bet anyone 100 bucks they dont. Its all about the $$$.

USC has market value, thats why they didn't get spanked harder then they did.

Don't hold your breath. The abortion business is messed up, Shapiro did that with no one's knowledge. He said the player/father wasn't even aware of it. Can that sort of thing really be imputed to the University?

They have two 4 star defensive linemen and two defensive ends 3 & 4 stars. Think we are in good shape with DE but the linemen we could use.

Share with us how you think anything regarding money is beneficial to the NCAA. Schools don't make money and give it to the NCAA, nor does the NCAA accept money from the schools. The cash that's raised is through marketing, television, fundraising, donations, etc. The NCAA doesn't see a dime of it, not even for bowl games. That money that is won is distributed to the schools by the sponsor of the game. So, I'd like to know how you think that Miami being a 'business' gets them off less than SMU. I'll hang up and listen (this should be interesting...).

Sure can. It's a player getting a benefit from a booster. I know that sounds bad saying an abortion is a benefit, but it is what it is in this case. The booster should have known better and they player should have not accepted this and turned the guy in. At least thats the way it is supposed to happen...:peace2:

The booster should have known better, but everything I'm hearing about this guy leads me to believe he's theiving, jock-sniffing scumbag who just didn't care.

Maybe. Who knows? The 'AA finds out all sorts of things in their "investigations." Listen, don't mistake my comments for me being happy that this is happening. I wish it never did. Especially since Miami was just starting to become a perennial power again. I just think that when Shapiro did what he did, he put his own nail in the coffin. Cecil Newton pimped Cam around the SEC and walked out with $200K because "Cam wasn't aware of it," and that investigation is still pending because the NCAA thinks that it's still a worthwhile investigation. So yeah, I think it is possible to have that imputed to the university. I don't like it any more than you, but I firmly believe at this point, until more information comes out that makes me believe otherwise, that they are in fact, screwed.

They raise too much revenue for the area. it wont happen. The NCAA will not drop the hammer like they did on SMU. The conferece will lose $$$, the NCAA will lose $$$ from not having them, There TV rights and agreements will lose $$$. There's just too much $$$ in college football for them to get the same treatment as SMU.

Also, they will bring some major legal representation to the table so they dont get the kiss of death. Just my opinion.

This has gotta be the worst "alleged" violations ever!! Over 70 players involved, and multiple coaches were aware what was going for almost ten years!? I dont think they will get the death penalty but if this dude really has thousands of pics, receipts and whatever else, then who knows.

LOL Not sure I'd want them though with the Dooley in charge.... :) We have (crossing fingers) a pretty clean ship right now.

You have a VERY clean ship right now. Im sure there are some good honest kids down there at the U. . . . just pure percentages says there are one or two. . . . but I would steer clear of them just to avoid the controversy!

Probably right there. And yes, I think a player can get a benefit without knowing it. It boils down to guilt by association. He would have ended up paying child support on a kid that he didnt' mean to have, and that would have been the equivalent of Shapiro paying for all or part of his child support. Shapiro just prevented that by well, preventing the baby (which IMO is very sick--but that's a whole other debate!)...

The revenue they raise does not go to the NCAA. I still disagree with your logic on this.

Bottom line is, this thing is either going to drag out for eons, or it will be a pretty open and shut case and end [fairly] quickly. Either way, Miami will not get out of this without some pretty MAJOR penalties.

Im reading it the same way. It sucks that guys like this exist. But also, the program needs to keep a better eye on things as well. Sounds like there were some people in the program that need to have their jobs whacked.

If I were the NCAA I would start banning coaches from the college game. The assistants (I can never remember their names) that are now at Bama, DONE. I would ban them for life.

Let them go carry someones jock in the NFL. The college game has no place for guys like that.

Same with the compliance dept. They should have had a better handle on this, or ANY handle on this. Just doesnt make sense. There needs to be a house cleaning, that is for certain.

Feel bad for the Cane alums/diehards. This sucks.
