Are you 100% certain about Miltons abilities?

Offensive line should be pretty good again. I'm just hoping he's got the atm strength to make all the throws.

Most meaningful bowl game since ‘04 cotton bowl in terms of bowl ranking, but sure, it didn’t mean anything

Oh my, the old "meaningless game" argument again. Yet, said person was flat out glued to the screen for 3 straight hours for that meaning less thing. 🙄

I need to see more from him like leading us to a win over Florida this season. If he plays like he did in the Orange Bowl we will be fine this season. Go Vols

I'm sold on Huepel's ability to get the best out of Joe. Unfortunately, I think Joe gets in his own head at times and it causes him to over throw receivers. I need to see him execute more methodical drives and hit the whole route tree. Up until this point its mostly been boom or bust. Deep ball or three and out.

Pretty much agree with this. We've seen one game where he put it all together, and that was a meaningless bowl game. Will he be able to accurately hit a wide open WR streaking down the field in the swamp? That I am not so sure of.

Did he really put it all together? Or did the defense hold the fort long enough for Milton to complete a few deep balls. From what I remember there were alot of 3 and outs, and Clemson controlled time of possession and had the ball on our side of the field most of the game.

Carolina, Chicago, Houston and Arizona are off the board for QBs and Chicago has both theirs and Houston’s first choice anyway. Then you have Caleb Williams for whatever mystery guest is in that top 5 list.
Google top 10 QBs for CFB 2023. This is the most talented QB class in a very long time. At least 5 QBs come off the board in the first 10 NFL picks next yr and maybe more. JM isn’t even listed in the top 10 right now.

That's because they pretty much just picked QB's that started for their teams last year
It's good to be the underdog that rises to the top

I'm totally sold especially year 3 under Heupels guidance
Only question is our o-line going to be able protect him.
You ?
The way I see it, if he can run the offense at 70 percent as effectively as hooker did we go 9-3. Now if he runs it as efficiently and you add his physical tools which are second to none. We could have a damn good year 10 plus.

Mock drafts huh? Notoriously accurate a year in advance. 😉 You’re missing the point that four of the worst teams in the NFL have their franchise QB. If Arizona were to go away from Kyler Murray, Caleb Williams is way more likely. Mebbe teams like Detroit or Miami make a play for new signalcallers, but it would be surprising if they’re in the top 10 of the draft. If your projections of the talent of this QB is accurate, this is a case of SUPPLY over DEMAND.

I think he was in his own head in 2021 because he was running CJH offense at the pace required, but the game hadn't slowed down for him yet. I think we saw in his last couple of games that it has now slowed down.

He has all the ability in the world...but can he consistently hit deep targets is the question, I think he's gotten alot better but we'll see, he's not really a runner as Hooker was, Hendon made some big plays for us with his legs, can Milton do that?

Milton was never a "bad" QB, even in year 1. Yes he overthrew guys, but he still made the right reads and didn't turn it over. Hooker was just better.

Even if he isn't up to Hooker's level, he should still have a very solid season. I'm thinking 22 total TDs and 2500 total yards is probably the floor for Milton. That's not amazing, but it's pretty solid and would likely win us a minimum of 8-9 regular season games.

Meh. I think all bowl games are meaningless except for the NC.

The perception of the UT's program changes quite a bit when we are able to beat teams like Clemson in big bowls. Wins against strong programs helps with recruiting, boosts fan support, and hopefully keeps us on a path of winning it all under Heupel.

Milton’s biggest problem is he is following one of Tn’s most efficient quarterbacks in history and sitting one the bench is a freshman hyped to be one of the best ever. He can be a good quarterback and loose in the swamp. Huepel understands this and will give him some slack but most fans will not.

I am afraid that some posters will say he is a bust if he isn’t as good as Hooker. I think we will be about 9-3 or 10-2 and he IMO will be one considered one of the top 3 or 4 SEC QBs by seasons end which is pretty darn good.

Here's Heupel's quarterback coaching resume from 2006-2022 and then why Milton will be GREAT this year

Oklahoma

2006 Paul Thompson 2667 yards 22 TD 11 INT 60.7% comp. Team was 11-3

2007 Sam Bradford 3121 yards 36 TD 8 INT 69.5% comp. Team went 11-3

2008 Sam Bradford 4720 yards 50 TD 8 INT 67.9% comp. Heisman trophy 12-2 (lost title game)

2009 Sam Bradford (injury) back up Landry Jones comes in 3198 yards 26 TD 14 INT 58.1% Comp. Team went 8-5

2010 Landry Jones 4718 yards 38 TD 12 INT 65.6% comp. 12-2

2011 Landry Jones 4463 yards 29 TD 15 INT 63.2% comp. 10-3

2012 Landry Jones 4267 yards 30 TD 11 INT 66.1% comp. 10-3 (left as third all time passing yards in FBS football history)

2013 revolving door at QB for whatever reason, but they combined for 2588 26 TD 11 INT 61% comp. 11-2

2014 Trevor Knight 2300 yards 14 TD 12 INT 56.6% comp. 8-5

Utah State

2020 Dillon Gabriel 3570 yards 32 TD 4 INT 60% comp. 6-4

Tennessee

2021 Hendon Hooker 2945 yards 31 TD 3 INT 68% comp. 7-6

2022 Hendon Hooker 3135 yards 27 TD 2 INT 69.6% comp

JOE MILTON 971 yards 10 TD ZERO INT 64.6% comp. 11-2

Against elite NFL talent laden Clemson defense 68% comp. 251 yards 3 TD 0 INT orange bowl MVP

Dating back to 2006 how many bad seasons do you see here? Maybe two? Or zero? Maybe a couple average seasons?

Look at the stats his QB's have put up since he's been head coach

Based on that alone would you put money down that bad QB play will suddenly happen for Josh Heupel for the first time? Not only that, but he won't be able to mold one of the most physically gifted QB's the game has ever seen after clearly showing improvement from 2021 to 2022 and his performance against Clemson?

What if I told you that he will have former five star freak athlete Bru McCoy back ready to be one of the best WR in college football?

And

4.3 40 Squirrel White who had 109 yards and a TD against Clemson as a true freshman?

And

Ramel Keyton a big rangy 5th year senior veteran with NFL ability?

And

Donte 6'5 runs as fast as Jalin Hyatt Thornton in THIS OFFENSE???

And

6th year senior TE Jacob Warren? Projected NFL Draft pick McCallan Castles at TE?

And

Trusty veteran RB's Jabari Small and Jaylen Wright with super talented Dylan Sampson and Cam Swiss army knife track speed havin Seldon???

And

Three offensive line starters back with several other veterans and John Campbell was the best rated left tackle in the ACC?

And it's Joe's third season in this system yall

He is going to be great.

Lol that wasn’t the original discussion

100% bought in. I do believe there’s gonna be times where we kind of question it. But I believe he’ll get into a rhythm as the season goes on. From what I’ve heard, he has been preparing like a professional. I think his biggest issue was getting in his own way when he first got here and at times last year. But I think the consistency of being in the same scheme for 3 years and being able to sit back and watch and learn has helped him turn his doubts into pure muscle and mental memory.

There will be 2 of either replies at the end of the year, I remember all the hate on Hueple being the right coach and the refrain by many was, glad I was wrong GBO , I'm still awesome Fan.
On Milton at end of year will be one of 2 below.
1. I'm glad I was wrong on my fears. or I'll eat my Crow etc...Be good to me I meant well. Milton is awesome ,I was wrong.etc..
2. I told you all. Yep some of you were pulled in by the arm only. He failed at Michigan & again here. etc..

To play Devils Advocate here. He/coaches/team had an entire month to prepare for Clemson. Can he look as good against different schemes and players each week? Will his penchant for over throws come back if/when he gets rattled? He has proven, at least in the past, he is not all in for Tennessee (Ole Miss stepping out of bounds after time had already expired).

Dude has a legitimate arm, for sure but, one game doesn’t make up for a career spanning two schools of not being able to get it done. Maybe, just maybe CJH is the QB guru and whisperer we think he is and Joe wins the Heisman this year.

Post Script: how many of you could catch a 15 yard bullet from him crossing the middle? Even with gloves that has to be painful!
It’s not as hard as you would think because Milton throws a beautiful tight spiral every time and that makes it easier to catch even with the force… heup will have Joe humming on all cylinders ppl forget this is the first off season he has had in the system as the unquestioned starter and 3rd year overall in the system he will be comfortable and he will deliver.

I think this 2023 team has the potential to be one of the best rushing attacks we have had in the last 20 years. 3 legit RBs and Seldon looks the part. I also think the defense will be improved. We will probably lean on this with Milton only having to manage the game. I think we can win 8 games like this, no problem. So I don’t think he really has to do anything special in 2/3 of the games to win, kind’ve like Vandy last year. Got us some key first downs and let the RBs take over the game.

The teams I think that can limit our ground game are UF, A&M, UGA and Bama. These are the games I think Milton may have to make plays to win on his own and are the difference between a decent season and a special season. I think he can do it once, but I will have to see him do it multiple times to believe it.

I hope the receiver gets his head around. If not, Milton might break his neck with the ball.
