ARK hires Gus Malzahn as new OC

I am a Vol living in the lion's den (Fayetteville, AR) and I will assure all of you that this is not a move just predicated on Mustain coming to UA.  Malzahn has a track record of winning and has put together some unbelievable offensive teams with limited talent (which is likely the case at UA).

Mustain or no Mustain, the heat was very high around here for Nutt to hire an OC rather than continue to handle that role himself (which he did poorly according to most around here).  The likelihood of UA garnering some high profile offensive mind is very remote, so they went with who is most likely their best alternative.  I think he will pay dividends around here in the long run, whether Mustain ever plays a down for UA.

I wonder if his book is any good. Have you read it?

even though AR hired his coach, i think he knows that he has no future at AR. the only spark of talent that shows on the field is mcfadden...

he needs playmaking recievers...

he also knows that Cut sent Peyton, Tee, and Eli all to the pros....

I think his go to guy in HS is going there. So he has someone he can trust. Whether this guy can hack it in college is another issue.

It's going to take Malzhan two years minimum to install a new offense and even then it's not going to be running on all cylinders. I don't think Nutt has that much time. I think Nutt has just sealed his fate.

I think this hurts Nutt credibility.  Hiring a kids football coach to try and get the kid to come play for you is putting a lot of pressure on the kid that he shouldnt have to deal with.  Its like the livliehood of his coach is tied up in where he goes to play football.  I would love it if he would go somewhere else and leave Nutt stuck with him as his O.C.

Joe Paterno hired Larry Johnson's dad as Defensive Coordinator in order to get Larry...his dad is still the Defensive Coordinator at Penn State. Mustain's coach is apparently the real deal and will not only be installing his offense with a #1 QB recruit who already knows the system, it will be a one or two year transition with Nutt's offense (since Nutt was the defacto Offensive Coordinator their anyway.)

The SEC is not Hog High. Meyer couldn't do it with the best athletes. The pigs are young, mostly freshman and sophmores and they are just now getting to know Nutts offense. Now they have to learn a new one and work it against SEC defenses....Good luck and Good Bye Mr. NUTT.

It'll be interesting how well Mazlahn can adjust to the speed of defenses in the SEC. if that QB is too busy scrambling for his life or spending more time on his back, that book offense of his won't mean spit.

And on the D side if Nutt's D stinks then getting some points on the board will be the demand and expectations will be 40 points just to stay in the game.
