Arkansas Hires Chaney and Pittman

Wonder how long Biliema puts up with Chaney abandoning the run game. Seems like an odd fit to me considering Wisconson's power run game style. JMO

I'm sure Bielema will have the good sense to not allow Chaney to call plays like Kiffin did with Chaney when they were together.

please do research before you post.

Our offense this year...

2012 Averaged 36.2 points per game

2012 289 Total First Downs

2012 1,924 Total Rushing Yards

2012 3,787 Total Passing Yards

2012 Allowed 8 Sacks

We led the SEC and were fourth in the NCAA allowing an average of 0.67 sacks per game. We also ranked 16th in the country in passing offense, 19th in total offense, 23rd in scoring offense and 33rd in passing efficiency.

Offense was never our problem. Our problem is we had one of the worst Defenses in the league

Both guys are good hires for them. Chaney might not actually fit Jones' style and may not have been retained anyway so idk if his loss will hurt us too much, but losing Pittman definitely hurts.

By the time the 2014 draft is over, I think that offense will have 9 players drafted in the NFL (guessing only Z. Rogers and R. Neal go undrafted), with at least 6 of them in the top 3 rounds. A monkey could have coached that offense to 35 points/game. Chaney was better than a monkey, barely. He's actually a good OC, just needs someone else to call plays for him.

I am only interested in one stat.....it was 5-7.

And last year, it was 5-7

And the year before, it was 6-7

And the year before, it was 7-6

Coach Chaney was right up in the middle of all four of those seasons. Bottom line...23-27. I wish him the best of luck.

So we should fire Jay Graham too?

I know he wasn't here for the previous years, but he was a part of the 5-7 team. Must be his fault.

don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a huge loss, but you're reasoning is terrrible.

Since he was only here for one year of it, and the running back play did greatly improve, and he is a former great Vol player, and we need minority coaches on the staff, yes, Jay can hang around for one more year. But he better watch his azz. That number on the right side needs to be 5 in 2013.

interesting fit...i think u'll see an offense that resembles the one uw ran with russel wilson. the difference in play calling when he was there and when he wasn't was staggering...still a power run game, but can dial in a pass when they want/need

still dunno why he decided to get chaney tho...they have far from similar offensive philosophies it seems

It sure is... When things aren't working you need to know if a complete turn over is necessary before you actually do it. Our offense wasn't completely broken. The 13 men on the field and other faux pas clearly indicated head coaching was a large part of what was broken. The hiring of a DEFENSIVE coach who choose to deviate from an already entrenched system in the middle of rebuilding was another indicator of it being broken at the top. I don't even blame sal seri (however you spell it)... It should have been worked out at the interview that they wouldn't depart from the current defensive scheme and if that prospect couldn't coach the 4-3 then he wasn't the man for the job.

"Jim Chaney's approach will blend well with my ideas as we work to put together a plan for the team we have and over time develop our specific philosophy," Bielema said.

If we had hired Bielema and kept Chaney (and Pittman), I'd actually be excited about next year. They will average 40+; we, at our best, will average about 32 (unless, of course, we stumble across a Manziel).

New Arkansas coordinators Jim Chaney and Chris Ash have each signed multi-year contracts worth $550,000 annually.
The salaries for the Razorbacks' new offensive and defensive coordinators were released by Arkansas on Thursday. Also, new offensive line coach Sam Pittman will receive $275,000.
All three coaches have been hired this week by new Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema, who left Wisconsin last week after seven seasons. Ash followed Bielema from the Badgers, while Chaney and Pittman came from Tennessee.
Chaney's contract carries him through three seasons, while Ash's is for two seasons. Both would be required to pay Arkansas $100,000 if they leave the school before the end of their contracts.
Pittman's contract is for one season.

Don't get it....Bielema is a pound it, I formation, full back offense; He has promised to bring the Wisconsin run 1st attack to Arky.

Chaney is a 4 wide, spread w/o fullback, running back in the pistol.

Their philosophies don't match.

I think he will just have to adapt like he did with Kiffin. I liked how we ran the ball in 2009, used the play-action game etc. I think it is a good hire by Arky. I really liked Pittman. He is a very solid coach IMO.

Being primarily a Boilermaker, I have been a Chaney fan for almost 14 years now. I, of course, wished he was retained but I wish him the best of luck in his endeavors. My only thought at this point is him and CBB are like a Democrat and Republican working together. They could not be any more polar opposite in philosophies, and I'm curious to see how it actually fleshes out. Will be interesting to watch.

Arkansas hires former Tennessee assistants Arkansas hires former Tennessee assistants

Great hires by Arkansas - they seem to be getting it right. If they hire Chaney it means they are not going to be all run and that's what concerned me about their new offense.

Look for someone to snap up the rest of our offensive staff.

agree, and Chaney's going to make about 1.1MM next year
$600k buyout and $500k, salary
