Arkansas rumors

While Walmart and Tyson do donate some funds to the ad. The majority of the money they donate does go to the educational department.

There are other big donors such as j.b. hunt and abf. But the real money comes in from Jerry Jones.

They do have a solid fan base that does travel and supports their program.

If arkansas announces today I feel like it will be a Sarkisian hire.

The Walton's have given hundreds of millions to the University of Arkansas which is public record and at least minimum 18 million to the athletic department. I have no doubt they have given considerably more then that but the 18 million is without a doubt a fact that everyone on earth that cares already knows about. They didn't name their bk arena Bud Walton arena because he is a nice guy or Randal Tyson track because they like Tyson chicken. I'm not sure how that's not credible but whatever.
If you look a bit north, you will see more Walton family money spent on athletics at Mizzou. Stan Kroenke is the son-in-law of Bud Walton. He has paid for the Missouri Tigers basketball arean, owns the NBA's Denver Nugges, the NHL's Colorado Avalanch, a couple of american soccer teams, and the English soccer team, Arsenal, and the NFL's St Louis Rams.

Bud Walton hates Arkansas sports that's why he gave them 18 million to build the bk arena.

So who was your sister married to?

I was fixing to post this. Not sure I'd say he hates Arkansas sports but he for sure cares more about the Academics side of things rather than Athletics. It doesn't matter though....Arkansas has plenty of money to buy a really good coach. I don't think it will be Gruden (still not sold on Gruden to UT either) but they'll have someone who will do decent.

Stan Korenke was born and raised there and also went to school at Mizzou. Not to mention, he was pretty well off before he hooked up with the daughter.

I would rather see them hire Golden.
If our choice is Strong or Golden, then I'd prefer Strong. It's just a tough situation. There's Gruden. Then there's Stoops, Patterson and Peterson. Thereafter, it turns into a subjective mess where the minuses of each candidate are somewhat obvious while the pluses are somewhat subjective. Hopefully, if it's not one of those top four guys, someone is really thinking outside the box and can deliver a homerun hire that wasn't otherwise obvious to us.

I think whoever they hire, is going to be gone after 3 years, unless Saban leaves Alabama... Manziel has 3 years left at aTm, then there's LSU, Alabama, Miss St., plus Ole Miss has, what seems to be, a good coach. Unless they can do something with those 30+ ranked recruiting classes Arkansas has over the past few years, and pull in some great top classes, they're going to be fighting a losing battle imo.

Sully Says: The Coaching Search - KATV - Breaking News, Weather and Razorback Sports

By Steve Sullivan, Sports - bio

During his visit to the Little Rock Touchdown Club, Gus Malzahn talked about life as a Division One head football coach. He said it was one of the few professions where you are given about 24 hours to make a life changing decision.
What doesn't look like the right move one week can look very attractive a week later.

It's Malzahn's opinion - and he should know - that coaching decisions aren't made weeks or months before the announcement. I heard from a good source, a high school coach I trust, that Malzahn wasn't even considering the ASU job until the final days before he was announced as the Red Wolves next coach. Bobby Petrino, Houston Nutt and Nolan Richardson were also final hour hires.

Have the Hogs reached out to Jon Gruden? I say yes.

Gruden's golfing buddy, John Daly, got the Gruden ball rolling when he called in to the "Show With No Name" on 103.7 The Buzz. Daly said he was going to do all he could to get Gruden to Arkansas. He also indicated that Gruden had already met with Jeff Long.

Two days later, a CBS insider said that Gruden was looking at the possibility of getting back into coaching and he mentioned Arkansas and Tennessee as possible college destinations. If Gruden wasn't in play, Long should have found a way (contact Wally Hall) to end the Gruden talk.

In a search that's lasted so long and is so important, the last thing you want to do is mislead your fanbase.

If Gruden is a grand slam hire, TCU's Gary Patterson and Boise State's Chris Peterson are probably considered home run hires.

So far, the talk in this search has shifted from Butch Davis to Patterson to Gruden to Peterson. By the number of text messages I received Friday night, I thought Peterson would be on his way to Fayetteville this weekend. That didn't happen.

Is Peterson, who's spent just about all his career out West, ready to move to the SEC? I don't know. Some believe the University of California may be a better fit for Peterson.

I guess you can call the next three coaches the second tier guys: Mike Gundy of Oklahoma State, James Franklin of Vanderbilt and Charlie Strong of Louisviille. Gundy has done big things at Oklahoma State; James Franklin is making miracles happen at Vandy; and Strong has Louisville rolling.

Gundy's overtime loss to Oklahoma might help the Hogs, if indeed they are thinking Gundy. Franklin should have options - Tennessee, Auburn or Arkansas. You would think all three would be interested in Franklin. As for Strong, he has the Arkansas and SEC ties but doesn't seem interested in leaving Louisville.

The level three guys: Art Briles of Baylor, Sonny Dykes of Louisiana Tech and Alabama's Kirby Smart. Briles has done a solid job at both Houston and Baylor; a guy who loves wide open offenses and can recruit Texas. Dykes has turned La Tech into an offensive juggernaut and could also recruit Texas. And if Long is thinking at all about assistant coaches, Smart (the 2012 Broyles Award winner) is the best option.

If Long has to go to level four, Hog fans won't be thrilled. Butch Jones at Cincinnati, Mike Macintire of San Jose State, Dave Doeren at Northern Illinois, Mark Hudspeth of Louisiana-Lafayette and Willie Taggert of Western Kentucky. All five are ready to make a jump; how high they'll go is anyone's guess.

I have no idea who will end up in Fayetteville. I think they have the dollars necessary to hit a home run, but I wouldn't be shocked to see them end up with a level 3 or 4 guy.

I do know that I'm ready for this search to end. History tells me that we'll get about 24 hours notice.

Well, we are done then. If a drunk washed up golfer says it is so, then he trumps our insiders...... And wtf with UT and the Franklin comment?

I don't know why people are all over Franklin's nuts. I would take the DC, he is the real coaching talent on the team IMO.

I laughed.

Daly bought me a beer at Wild Wings in Farragut when the Open was playing at Fox Den a cpl years ago. Was a super nice guy to talk to.

Many years ago in Memphis Daly put on a bit of a driving demonstration at a golf course I played. The man could crush a ball and actually hit one with a putter further than I can hit a 3-Wood.

Daly vs Peyton in a recruiting battle for Gruden. Let's see how this finishes:dance:

The Daly link has been going around since April. It's more like Mrs. Gruden vs. the guy who loses his car keys after a long night at the bar.

Hogville has been very informative on the coaching search. It looks like Chris Petersen, after turning down UCLA and Florida, has accepted the Arkansas offer. Jon Gruden is actually at the game and may end up being Petersen's offensive coordinator. Butch Davis will take reigns over the defensive side of the ball. Despite hanging around the area all during the Thanksgiving holidays, Bill Cowher may not have a spot on the staff, unless he wants to take a position coach job. All of this is courtesy of Hogville.

the only decent thing that comes out of that thread is the dude that started posting pics of his wife bewbs...

They are getting either Peterson, Gundy, or Paterson according to local sports media here. They base this on comments by the AD that he wanted to wait until their top target is done with their regular season, and those 3 have one game remaining. Just found it interesting. Go ahead and "cool story, bro" me. :)
